It's good to see a few days go by and see no trouble here on the porch. I'll tell y'all the truth...I read tooo slow. It takes me several minutes just to catch up from where I left off when I drop by the porch. :)

That's a good sign in that it means folks are enjoying their visiting.

Thanks to those of you who have enjoyed me being out and about here on the Porch of late. I certainly enjoy my visits! You folks are the salt of the earth.

June 20, 2006 - Msg 40104: Hey porch! How's everyone on this fine sunny afternoon (well at least here it is)? Hi to me-they, Floyd, MAYBERRY DEPUTY, and night to irishster. To bad I won't get to talk to irishster because Im at work while she is posting and when I get back, she's off to bed!

Anyway's everyone have a fine supper and evening. Think Im going to pick up some Fish and Chips.

June 20, 2006 - Msg 40105: Hey Floyd, I have been meaning to thank you also for all your work here, and all the other boards you deal with. Your a prince of a fella. And it has been nice seeing you post here a little more lately. Glad you have been porching with us.

Boo, did you make it to see Cars? Did you like it? The tractor tipping had me howling.

Spot, great vittles bud. I did save a little room to sneak over to Maude's and eat her meatloaf. She's a good cook too.

Warren, I think Irishter is a he, not a she. Unless he's snuck on here trying to bet on horse races dressed up as a girl.

Well think I'll go work on my ball of tin foil. What with my bongo playing and cymbal crashing, I have neglected it for a while. Shame on me.

June 20, 2006 - Msg 40110: Just this quick comment, Mary Wiggins. Then I'll read the rest tomorrow when I get home from work. You, my dear, were snookered. Possibly "gypsied". That's how they work, and they can be very intimidating. Around here it used to be the local gypsy clan that would do that, more recently it's the people of Middle Eastern descent (headscarf and all) who do it. They descend on a garage sale, gather up everything they can carry, offer you a piddly sum and refuse to take "no" for an answer. If all else fails, they'll throw the little bill on a table and walk away, lugging your stuff, and just dare you to come after them. There are usually two or three thuggish-looking males in the car. Since that practice started, I've quit having garage sales. Instead of a sale, I call a charitable organization, give the stuff to them, get a receipt and fill in the amount I choose, to be used as a tax deduction. Much easier on the nerves. --Romeena

I remember "Cannon" and William Conrad. That guy had a deep voice.

Souvlaki-Is a wonderful thing MDC. It is a Greek style sandwich made with just about any kind of meat Chicken, Beef, Pork in a pita with feta cheese, garlic, lettuce, olive oil, oh man, we have to stop talking about them or I'll be out in the kitchen looking for something to eat. They're good.

June 20, 2006 - Msg 40133: Goodnight Warren and sweet dreams.

Hi TOM. Did you tell the doctor about all the problems you were having with family? Seems you mentioned your blood pressure going up recently when your family was bothering you.

Auh20...SO funny about John Davidson/Bobby Sherman. You made me laugh out loud on that one.

You made me laugh, too, MDC with your comment about VBS. Things went more smoothly today (and not due to bourbon or valium). I only had 4 in my class today.

Hey Possum, sorry I couldn't join you at the Gigolo club. I hated to miss Asa's act. Maybe I can catch the next one with ya.

Hey Lucy and Millie. Millie, I hope you can sleep tonight.

Think I will turn in soon.

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40139: Hope I get to visit one day. Although, you haven't REALLY had fish and chips till you have been to Ireland or the UK ;)

Gotta run, going to tgry to gets some flyers out early.

-Irishter

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40140: Morning porch. Hope you are in bed by now, Millie.

You know Irishter is starting to make me sick with envy talking about that cool weather.

I should still be sleeping but had another bad dream and now can't quite get back to sleep. I could probably count on 2 hands the number of bad dreams I have had in a lifetime so it is really unusual for me to have 2 in one week....must be the bourbon....ha

SPOT, drove by the 5 acres yesterday after they had finished clearing and mulching the front half of the property and it looked great...maybe too many trees but I like it. Still waiting for the final houseplans to be finished.

I think my bad dreams may have something to do with the situation with the little girls that I told you about last week. It has really been tough. The mother of the boy had to be confronted this week and of course she was devastated, but according to law (and moral law) this has to be dealt with and reported to the proper authorities. I pray that everyone involved gets the help they need. My stomach hurts just talking about it. Please pray for us.

Well, guess I'll try to get some more sleep...later, my friends.

Boo

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40141: You got the prayers Boo. BTW, How is Linda doing?

Irishter, I thought you were a feller. I think Warren better go see Helen. His eyes are bad. LOL My parents came to the USA over 50 years ago from England and the only regret they ever had was there was no place in this country who made decent fish and chips. They spent 50 years looking for one too. They did find one little place that came closer than the rest, but was still off the mark according to them.

Tom, I agree with Boo. The turmoil with your family could be affecting your blood pressure. Prayers for you my friend.

Possum, have you made that appointment yet? Hmmmm?(tapping foot in motherly sort of way)

Fungirl, good to hear from you. Are you doing better? Millie said that neck sugar is the fountain of youth. I like that thought.

Since SPOT doesn't seem to be around, how about everyone piling into my car for a run to Subway for lunch?

Me-They

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40149: Hey MILLIE, I was wondering (just curious) what kind of hours you put in at the restaurant? You don't have to answer if it's none of my business. I know that I got out of the table-waiting racket after ten years because I was tired of working so many evenings and every weekend. And I was tired of missing most holidays with the family. Still, I often miss it. I love order and prioritizing (it comes from the OCD, no doubt), and that's half the job for a server. Now that I think about it, it probably was a really good outlet for my compulsions and may partially explain (along with age and a growing family) why it's gotten worse in the last eight years. Huh...I'll have to give that some thought. Imagine that, I've discovered Porch Chat Therapy! Anyway, I was just curious how you handle it. Owning a restaurant must be even more taxing.

Remember that God is your Father and He created you because He wants to show His love to you and wants you to love and trust him. It has been a long, hard road for her and Keith and it seems that it is her time to go. Thank you for your prayers and concern. I will update you when I hear anything.

134 degrees in Death Valley?! Horrors...sounds like Texas...hehe. I remember being in Death Valley in the summer once (my Dad's idea of something "fun" to do on vacation). Gross!

I was afraid he would crash when we started weaning him off the Paxil but so far he is doing well. His appetite is already decreasing and the only thing I can see is that he is more emotional. Thank the Lord! It's only been a week so we have a month to go until he is off the Paxil.

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40161: Thanks, BOO. I'll keep Sean in my prayers. That's great that things are going well so far.

DIXIE: Cut yourself some slack, girl! As a former college graduate myself (and my edukashion was worth every penny) with a history degree (don't laugh) who remembers well hitting the pavement in a market that my degree seemed ill-suited for, I know that you will find something. It may not be today, maybe not next week, but it will be the right job at the right time--if you look to Him when making your decisions. I'll keep you in my prayers. In the meantime, check in on the porch when you can. You make good conversation and it's nice to have the median age pulled down a bit (after all, we've got ASA dragging us down on the other end of the curve).

Don't be mad at me, but who's Bobby Sherman? I remember John Davidson's from Eight is Enough when I was little.
Hubby's taking a naturopathic course in Madison, Wisconsin. He left today and returns on Sunday. My stepchildren are scheduled to come on Sunday also, but their Mom said the child support check wasn't in the envelope (I know for a fact I sent it!) and they aren't coming. I sent another one today and put a stop on the "missing" one so we'll see if that changes her mind. The crazy thing is she is in contempt of court from not sending them at Christmas, and now she will be again because she claims hubby is in contempt. Two wrongs don't make a right, but they do if your green with envy. She scared the kids by cursing, yelling, and throwing things because she was so mad about the check. She literally is on anti-psychotic meds. Oh well, all I can do is pray for the kids to come and they're safety while with their Mom. Maybe someday hubby will try to get custody again.
I'm waiting for the tow truck to come and take our van to the service center because the transmission is slipping. This will be the 3rd one in there. Thank goodness Napa has a warranty!
Talk to ya soon!
Blessings,
~Lucy

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40166: Sounds good, SPOT, though I'll let the okra pass on by.

Hey, LUCY. Prayers continue for your family. Did you see the new "Cheaper by the Dozen," or the original? Both are funny.

Bobby Sherman was a "teen idol" of the early to mid-1970s. I believe he has a few top forty hits. He also turned up in quest spots on a number of tv shows. As a guy, immune to his so-called charms, I can assure you he was a flash in the cultural pan. Now Kristy McNichol and Vallerie Bertinelli--there was talent!

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40167: Thanks guys. You're nice... Real nice :)

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40170: Your welcome, Dixie!

Lucy, Linda's kids are grown and out of the house. I don't know any of them personally but I know she has a daughter who is pregnant and due about now, very sad. I think Linda and Keith must have had their children pretty early because they aren't very old, about 50, I think.

Prayers for your family, Lucy. So sad for you and the children involved.

I never cared much for Bobby Sherman, Me-They. I was kind of unconventional when it came to crushes as a kid. I liked "real" men, not boys with funny hair-dos. I remember thinking that James Caan and George Pepard were gorgeous (and who could forget Robert Redford and Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy?). Here's a funny memory...I remember my mom and my aunts just swooning over Tom Jones and his gyrating pelvis! I don't think they ever missed his show...he was "the talk of the town" among the women in the late 60's. Too much chest hair and jewelry for me, thanks.

Better go make some spaghetti for VBS (my turn to take food)....can't forget the Oregeno!

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40171: That reminds me of a movie question I had for you guys...I caught the last half of a movie on Turner Classics the other day and I really liked it but didn't get the name. It starred Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor. Newman played the son of a wealthy Tycoon and Elizabeth Taylor was Newman's wife. They had a bad marriage....anyone remember what movie it might have been? Looked like it was made in the 60's. Newman was so handsome in the movie!

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40175: Good afternoon, everyone. Irishter, you can email to me any pictures you want placed in the album. Send them to Romeenaatairmaildotnet, using the appropriate symbols, of course. If you have prints instead of digitals, just email me at that address and I'll send you my snail mail address. You can then mail the prints to me, I'll scan them and mail them back to you. Digitals work best, of course.

More bad news at the rent house. There are termites, I saw them myself. So, another big fat check was written. It's hard, but you gotta protect the investment. The total tab to get the house in a lease-able condition is going to be several thousand, but you do what you have to do. I know I'd like to smack that woman upside the head. There was no excuse for what she did. Some people have absolutely no respect for other people's property. Wonder what she'd do if somebody dented her car on a parking lot?

Well, gotta run. I need a haircut, gotta try to get an appointment this afternoon. If not, then tomorrow. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40177: Romeena, I'm in the justice system, and I don't know what your situation was, but did you consider taking legal action against her, You might at least get the ruling to have her pay for some of the damage. Barnwannabe.

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40178: And Romeena, I know that you may be thinking of the court costs, but in some cases, I've ruled that if there is substantial damage, they have to pay court and attorney's fees, as well as the damages. BWB

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40186: You guys are hilarious...I should have mentioned Tom Jones years ago, and you're right, Me-They, (in my deepest singing voice).."It's not unusual to be loved by anyone....". (You younger folks must think we have gone nuts).

Gosh RO, now you have termites?? When I bought my ex-house, I got yearly inspections (low cost) and then if termites were discovered, they would treat for free. Well, a few years before we sold it, Bruce decided to stop the yearly inspections and guess what? Two years later we had termites and had to pay to treat for them. Maybe you should consider a plan like that for the rent houses. Just a thought. I'm really sorry about what happened with your last tenant...it's obviously a real stress to you. Let's pray that the next person who leases is a responsible individual. By the way, I don't think the movie I was talking about was Cat on A Hot Tin Roof because it was in color. I think Cat on A Hot Tin Roof was black and white, wasn't it?

Got to go face VBS...and I'm sober!

Boo

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40187: Well, i was wrong. I looked it up and it was Cat on A Hot Tin Roof that I was watching. Funny I never saw it before as many old flicks as I've seen.

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40190: Hey porch, I have a problem, or it's not my problem but it's still a problem.

My freind has just moved into a dream house and it has everything they could possibly want. However the house they moved into is farther away from the old neighberhood and harder to get to place's.

My freind's kid love's the place, but their is a problem starting to stir up. The old neighberhood had a whole bunch of kid's that live their and a whole bunch of place's he could go. For example at school Jeremy (my freinds kid's name) allway's feel's left out because his freind's are allway's talking about going to Ray Creek (a place in the neiberhood) or into Sidney or over to Rodary Park. Jeremy can't go their because he is to far.

It is really starting to hurt Jeremy's feeling's.

Anything you guy's can suggest? I turn to the porch beacause I know their are alot of parent's and grandparents on the porch and I thought you might have some expierence at this kind of thing!

Hello porch family....good to slip back on the porch for a spell. Pray you all are doing great. My tour is going really good.
I haven't been able to check in for a while because my laptop got a cup of pepsi spilled in it. Can anybody say "poof"!

Buckeye...did you get your order yet? I was told that it was shipped.

Even though I haven't been able to visit lately, you all have been in my prayers.
I'll check back later....-REV.

June 21, 2006 - Msg 40196: Evenin' porch. Hope evryone is well....good to hear from you Rev, glad your ministry is doing well. Tom, how are you? Me-They, stop by more ofte, we miss you when you're gone. Also missing Poor Horatio, hope he's having fun. Dixie, prayers for you. Warren, about your question, that happened with one of our neighbors who has 4 kids, and they missed their old friends and play routines. We started having play dates, alternating between her and us. Her kids got to play just like they used to, and when our kids went there, her kids appreciated the new place more and found new things to do and creeks for catching tadpoles and such.

Asa-It was just one of those crazy things. Remember, what happens on the porch stays on the porch.

Romeena-Yikes, I feel for ya.

Me-They, Good to see ya back.

BOO- I've never seen "Cat on A Hot Tin Roof" or "Fiddler on the Roof" (Mrs. auh2o's favorite). I am afraid of heights. Maybe, that has something to do with it.

One of my new fish died this morning! A beautiful shubunkin, about eight inches long with a lovely flowing tail, all white and filmy. Don't know what was wrong, he was just floating in the water lilies when I went out there to check on things. Doggone it, such a pretty little thing.

Well, I'm pooped. Worked last night, slept for 45 minutes this morning, then back up and at 'em. I'm tired, and headed for bed. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena
