July 22, 2006 - Msg 43099: Thanks anyway, ROMEENA.

Good morning everyone! Yes, I'm at work on a Saturday. Nora had a birthday party to attend near my office, so I thought I'd pop in for a while since there's no sense in driving a half hour just to turn around and drive back shortly after. Normally, this would be a "mom job" while I do the usual Saturday morning grass cutting, but the Mrs. just isn't up to such things yet so I'm filling in the best I can. Actually, the Mrs.' sister and her girls are up visiting today. Thankfully, they left the boys at home. Our house is pretty small and they have nine kids (number ten is in the oven). It's much, much more calm with just the four girls.

Does anyone else watch "Monk?" It is such an entertaining show. There's really not that many good dramas or comedies on tv anymore, but I really enjoy this show.

AFD: More baby details!

MDC: Yes, I AM taking credit when I can (when the Mrs. isn't looking!).

Well, I better actually do some work while I'm here. Y'all take care.

Me-They

July 22, 2006 - Msg 43100: Good Morning to everyone!!!

How are you???

I hope that all is well!!!

M-T: I have to tell you this...my fav. shows are TAGS, (don't laugh, or judge me) The Golden Girls, Law & Order, Monk, and Jepordy!!!

Now I know that that is weird, but don't make fun!!!

Well, stay calm people, and I'll see ya'll!!!

July 22, 2006 - Msg 43101: Good Morning Porch!

Barnwannabe, NO MUNSTERS OR GILLIGAN'S ISLAND? AHHH!

Deputy Warren Ferguson

July 22, 2006 - Msg 43102: Oh, I won't judge you on the tv shows you enjoy, BWB. I won't laugh either. I enjoy quite a few old comedies, like TAGS, "I Love Lucy," and dramas like "Rockford Files" and "Columbo." But, in my opinion, just because a show is old doesn't make it a "classic." While I enjoyed shows like "CHiPs" and "Fantasy Island" when I was a kid, I couldn't imagine watching and enjoying them now. Still, to each his or her own.

Hey, DWF. The two you mentioned wouldn't make my list, either. Especially "Gilligan's Island"--I'd rather watch radio!

July 22, 2006 - Msg 43114: Well, I'm back in the house, can't take it outside anymore. I had 27 iris rhizomes to plant. Got six actually in the ground! Seems everywhere I wanted to plant, there was a weed. So, pull it, right? Well, where there's one, there's more, just no place to stop. In a few minutes, I would be ten feet away from where I started! So, piles of weeds pulled, but only six iris planted. I called my landscaper friend who was planning to bring his helper and come on Monday for a day of weeding, pruning and shrubbery trimming, and asked if he could help me plant the iris as well. Of course, he will. He's also got to do some tweaking on irrigation heads, some areas aren't getting enough water. My yard man mowed and edged yesterday, but he doesn't do all that other stuff.

There are three huge butterflies in my yard right now. Pretty things, they just drift around through the flowers, as pretty as the blossoms themselves. God is good.

I'm off to take a shower, then a nap, 'cause I have to work tonight! Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

Although you can't right now because it is down for maintenance for a few days.

Well, I guess we can't delay the closing of our house we are selling, as the buyer needs to be out of her apartment, but we still need to find somewhere to go until we can close on our new house. I haven't been able to stop by for a few days, been busy at work and then with only 1 computer at home and 2 kids and a husband who like to use that computer, I haven't had a chance to see you guys. I have missed you all. We have had a few cooler days and some rain and storms as well. Hope SPOT has some breakfast left over cause I am hungry this morning. You guys have a good day.
Anyone heard from Millie? I have been thinking about her. Ya'll have a good day and act like somebody. SPOT, loved the pictures of your campsite. looks like peaceful place. Have a great day, ya'll. Big Maude

July 24, 2006 - Msg 43151: Good morning, friends, and thanks, Floyd, for fixing the porch. If you don't know what broke it, then maybe the Count is back. Or it might have been those gypsy folks casting a spell on it. I saw them outside of town just the other day. I just don't trust that lot. I don't think they'd hurt anyone, but they sure do pull some tricks.

Folks, we have a small "help a friend" project going. Many of you have received an email from me about it. If you didn't get one, it's because I don't have your address. I realize some don't want to share that information, and that's fine, we all understand. However, if you'd like to participate in this project (it involves a small donation, just a few dollars), then email me at romeena at airmail dot net. You know how to put that together so it will work. I'll let you know what the project is, and you can decide if you want to participate. No pressure. We all have our own obligations, I know. The project is something I can't discuss here.

Well, my landscaper friend will be here shortly. Many, many weeds to pull, shrubs to trim, roses to prune, a heavy birdbath to be relocated, lots to do and I can't do it all by myself. So my friend comes and brings his crew, and working together, we get the job done. Many hands make light work, as my grandma would say. She said a lot of things, my grandma.

By the way, ROMEENA, did you see my question about BOO's pictures?

Great to see CHARLOTTE, IRISHTER, GOOBER and MAUDE back on the porch. But where's HORATIO, MILLIE, BOO and some other's been lately?

I'm home for a few days before I have to start travelling to pick up the kids. Hubby and I had a great, relaxing weekend all by ourselves. We realized that we have not had a "date" since Feb.! That's WAY too long.
Me-They- Congratulations on your daughter. I didn't catch her name. Is the Missus doing well?
AFD- Did you have your bundle of joy also?
Goober- I was driving through Ky the other day and remembered that you live near Hart Co. Do you have a show on a country radio station called Goober's Club? I didn't get to hear it because I was travelling later in the day, but I heard the disc jockey mention.
Mrs. Wiley- I hope you get better real soon. I'll be praying for you.
MDC- Are ya keeping your doors locked with that maniac on the loose there?
Boo- How's Sean doing with the Paxil? How does Erin react to Sean's "issues" for lack of a better word.
Tom- I'm collecting our gum wrappers and will email Mavis as soon as I have at least 30. Be careful on your neighbor's porch.
Romeena- I will be emailing you hopefully today to get your address. I finally have a few nice photos of the family. You can then tell me about the financial help your organization needs.
I need to sort through and organize some papers and then do a bit of cleaning. Y'all have a wonderful, Mayberry day!
Blessings to you and yours,

I have to go now...I'll be back with more details!

Welcome back Boo- Is that near Los Alamos? I have been thru that area which i think is in Cloudcroft vicinity, neat mineral springs etc, but I may be thinking of a similar named town.
Glad you had a good refreshing cool time!
The porch is still here, your chair has been hosed off and we left the iced tea out for ya.
Prayers,
MDC

July 24, 2006 - Msg 43195: Thanks MDC! The towns I can think of that are near Cloudcroft are Ruidoso, Alamagorda, White Sands...you head west from Artesia and up into the mountains. I am sooo tired! I had to do all the driving on this trip. I drove from Fort Stockton (in West Texas) all the way to Corpus Christi today with only a couple of potty-stops. The kids did great and so did my mom, but dad was a real grouch...poor thing was just cranky and miserable. Starting out, I thought it was going to be the vacation from h#ll. We got into Pecos, Texas (the arm pit of Texas) and the car died. So, I put it in the shop and they changed the fuel filter. We stayed in a gross Motel 6 that night and then headed out the next morning. We got about 100 miles and it started to die again (out in the middle of the desert)...boy, talk about HOT! We made it to Cloudcroft somehow because there was no place to stop. I had to put it in the shop again the next day but they finally got it fixed and I had no trouble driving home today. Anyway, I am glad to be home tonight to sleep in my own bed. I slept on a futon bed in New Mexico and it had a big sink hole in the middle! ha..had to take Tylenol every morning after sleeping on that thing. It sure was nice sitting outside in the evening and looking at the stars...so cool, just perfect weather!

Me-They, I am planning to send Ro some new pics for her album as soon as I figure out how to send these digital photos....

I am reading the archives little by little....

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43206: I just finished reading the archives, boy I had alot of reading to do.

First of all, I want to tell ASA that he doesn't have to continue to wear the toolbelt on my account...it will be hard for me but if the belt is causing you back problems I will make the sacrifice...

Congratulations AFD! So glad to hear Little Dish is here safe and sound...glad you didn't go with Hogette.

Romeena, sorry about your Carpal Tunnel. I think I would have ended up with the same problem if I had continued to work as a nurse. All the writing involved in keeping the charts up was horrible and the many exams! I wonder if I will have trouble later on.... anyway, when you were talking about cats earlier, I was thinking about a very lively kitten I met on vacation. He entertained us at the mechanic's waiting room in the desert. His name was Osama (because he is a terrorist to the mice, his owner explained).

Speaking of cats, Warren for some reason, when you talk about your cat I picture that guy from Everybody Loves Raymond...he is Amy's brother (Robert's wife on the show). He is this strange guy who carries around this cat named Miss Puss. Do you know who I am talking about? He is an hilarious character in the show....not that I think you are wierd like him, I just think of him when you talk about your cat for some reason.

Possum, when I think about what your sister is doing and about you being on a heart monitor and have stress problems, I just want to cry. I hope your husband and kids are able to give you some TLC right now and help take care of you. We care very much about you.

Me-They, you are hilarious...that is all I'm gonna say.

Where is Poor Horatio? Did he say he was going on vacation or something?

Better go to bed...in my OWN bed! Yippee! I have to tell you what my dear Hubby did...when I came home today, the house was clean, laundry done, lawn mowed AND he even gave me a backrub. Can you believe it? I hit the jackpot on this man! Goodnight,

Boo

Morning Porch

We've had family from Florida arriving the last few days so I've been busy. Get this ... they think it's cool here (not groovy type of cool) some people just don't appreciate other peoples heat waves.

AFD-Congratulations!!!

Boo-Welcome Back....Your dreams were your ticket out. Welcome back,
To that same old place that you laughed about.
...It's not Tom Jones but it will have to do.

Gonna catch the archives in a bit.

Andy Taylor: Otis, three hours ago when Deputy Fife arrested you were you drunk?

Otis Campbell: I don't know; I wasn't wearin' my glasses.

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43208: Good morning everyone!

Welcome back, BOO. I'm not going to sing like AUH2O, especially the "Welcome Back Kotter" theme. (Hey, AUH2O: Up your nose with a rubber hose. Wha?)

Yes, I believe that POOR HORATIO has gone missing. Now, since I've seen a few movies, I don't recommend splitting up and going to look for him after dark. And I'm not going to be the one who gets to look in the cellar. There might be spiders down there. Actually, I vaguely recall HORATIO mentioned something about a trip, but so much has been going on over here this past week (imagine that) and I'll be darned if I'm going to try and find that needle-message in the haystack-archives. If he doesn't show up soon, I'll be glad to serve on a posse, though.

I haven't been on a soapbox for, oh, a whole week or so now, so...I was listening to a report this morning the "doughnut hole" in the new federal prescription drug program. Now, I don't enjoy paying taxes any more than the next guy (or gal) and think much, too much of my money is wasted, but in a country as wealthy as this it is a sin that anybody--rich, poor, young or old--has to forgo medical treatment or medicine because of cost. It is ridiculous to me that some of us are shopping for new vehicles while our neighbors are choosing which medications they will have to give up. No, I can't find a good reason why every single American shouldn't have every medical advantage available, darn the cost. If we truly are a Christian nation, how can we offer anything less? I don't rightly know. Anyway, it made me darn mad this morning. Thanks for letting me vent. Again.

Y'all have a great day. I'll check back in later.

Me-They

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43209: May I second that vent, Me-They? And add a comment? It's ridiculous that American citizens are having to pay higher and higher costs, so the hospitals can survive after they have supplied totally free care to non-citizens. My DIL is the COO of a 240-bed hospital in Florida, and she said they lose millions on charity cases every year, most of them illegals. My own hospital's labor and delivery unit is always at least 1/3 to 1/2 full of non-paying, non-English speaking illegals at any given moment, and we have a county hospital just down the road - Parkland, where Kennedy was taken after he was shot. They tell us point-blank that they don't want to go there "because I can't get a private room there." They need one, too, when the 27 visitors arrive, at least half of them children under six. It makes me crazy! There, I said it, and I ain't takin' it back!

And now I'm going to have lunch with some dear friends from Mexico City, who lived here as LEGAL, card-carrying aliens for 10 years, whose brilliant son was educated at Notre Dame on a full scholastic scholarship and is now a citizen, employed by Dell. His parents moved back to Mexico about 12 years ago, but are here to visit, and I'll be delighted to see them. I know without even talking to them about it, that they deplore our immigration mess as much as we do. After all, they went to the trouble and expense of doing it right when they came over, and they love and support the US.

OK, that's my say. Next?? Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

Barnwannabe.

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43212: Hey, thanks for the "welcome back" and for the song, Auh2o!

Me-They, I think we are living in a scary time and we are going to see some changes we don't like as far as our government is concerned. As far as charity, I remember hearing someone (can't remember who it was) talking about how strong the church was when there was no welfare or government help. Used to be, the church helped the folks that needed help and the church was a lifeline to the community. I think it's been weakened by government assistance, I mean think about it, if the government had not gotten into the business of giving hand-outs to everyone, we wouldn't have many of the social problems we have now (including illegal aliens) and the church would still be the lifeline of our communities. We as Christians would be also be in a better position to share the gospel and bring glory to our Father by our charity to those in need. Now days, people don't need the church when they have the government. Of course, there is no going back now. There are too many needy folks depending on that money (especially the elderly) and its a darn shame that they can't get the help they need. I remember when I was working as a home health care nurse and sometimes our elderly patients would go without needed medicine because they couldn't afford it even with government help (and talk about expensive!!)...by the way, most of them still had their kids living at home with them, receiveing welfare and not working to help the parents! We do have a local church organization that helps folks around here to buy their needed medications. Maybe their is one in your area. I also know what you are talking about Ro, living so close to Mexico, we dealt with that, too but it sounds like things have gotten worse since I worked in Labor and delivery. I hate to sound gloomy but I get the feeling that we are on a sinking ship here in this country. Priorities are all out of order. God help us.

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43216: Oh didn't See that BWB! No problem. Yesterday was the same type of thing for me.

Deputy Warren Ferguson

July 25, 2006 - Msg 43217: BOO: I think you've got a point to consider, but I don't completely agree. In my mind, the growth of government assistance has given Christians an excuse not to reach out, which in turn creates a greater need for government assistance, becoming a vicious cycle. But I don't think you can blame the social safety net for the decline of the church in society. I look at my own life and think, what's my excuse for not doing more? Even if teh government were picking up 99% of the tab, it's up to Christians to pick up the other 1%. Basically, no matter how many are feeding at the government trough (rightly or otherwise), that in itself is absolutely no excuse for us not to do more. No, I think that welfare, taxes and abuse of them is often our excuse for not doing more. Christ told us that if someone asks we should give teh shirt off our backs--He said nothing about if someone actually needed it. Utilimately, our call to change this world through service and sacrifice has nothing to do with fairness. Thank God it doesn't; none of us would be headed to paradise if it was about what's "fair."

The immigration issue is a difficult one for me, and I have very mixed feelings about it. Sometimes its difficult for me to distinquish my feelings for what is just verses what is good for me personally, and what is in keeping with my Christian faith versus what is in keeping with my patriotism and nationalism. I'll have to save my rant for another day.

Y'all have a great one! I'm watching the kids this afternoon so the Mrs. can take the baby for a doctor visit.
