Mavis, I forgot to mention that the cat you had looks very much like ours! Thanks for that clip.

Romeena-Your words to Me-They hit close to home here. While I was in college my wife got a fantastic promotion, which scuttled our plans. I have a couple of degrees and she never finished but she's the bread winner at present. I was working at Motorola an attending school and when I quit the plant to be a full-time "Mr Mom" ... well, let me say there was plenty of ribbing. I never thought that this would be our arrangement but there it is.
Rev-Sounds great. Lets eat.
MDC-Thanks, it's good to be seen and yes, I did see that episode of "History Detectives."
Well, this is our "bell lap" for summer, the kids go back to school a week from tomorrow.

Hey to the porch! Tom I have no plans of leaving this old porch, no matter where my tv appearances take me. :) possum I guess I'll make an exception & come over to your rock to sign it, since it would be hard for a possum to stand in line with paper & pen. Boo & Idelle I had my first & only boy at 26, & he is the light of my life! That comment about red means stop made me laugh, but Jake has blonde hair, so guess I opted for yellow means caution. LOL MDC never heard if the cat I had found a home or not, she was left at the door of the shelter in a crate with food. Some people don't deserve to be called human! Best get off here & get to bed, I'm one pooped puppy tonight.

Idelle, I am sure you can be perfectly happy with the two darling blessings God has given you. My only concern is that you said "there's no going back" but that the dog and the hubby still need to get fixed....better get that done or you never know! I have a good friend who is 35 and has 2 children. She tells me she would just die if she were to get pregnant but she has done nothing permanent to prevent it. I have tried to help her convince her husband to do it but he is scared to death that it will affect his "manhood". My husband had a vasectomy after our daughter was born and it was not a problem at all. He did het a bit weak and pale during the procedure, heehee...of course I was there to observe, standing right over the doctor's shoulder. It did my heart good to see my husband in the stirrups for a change!
MDC, I am familiar with Promensil. It's made from red cloverleaf extract and is good stuff. I kind of forgot about it. Maybe I'll get some, thanks.
Better hit the sack, pretty tired tonight. I had a stressful evening dealing with Sean and his multiplication!

Idelle- Quiche? Isn't that Frenchy for omelet?
Asa-I agree with colt, it does the heart well just knowing that you're out there (some might say "really out there" not me but some) If you do see Cindy Sheehan, while out on patrol, take it easy on her, maybe just hand her a library card. Good morning everyone! We're supposed to get 5-10 inches of rain between tonight and tomorrow so that should make the grass happy.
Thanks for your kind words, ROMEENA. Although if I have my druthers I would like the Mrs. to stay home, we figured out a long time ago that I would have to work many, many more hours to even possibly consider it. And we figured it didn't make good sense to gain more time with mom by almost eliminating time with dad. I'm okay with making less money. Money doesn't measure what you bring to the table.
AUH2O: I know that people say it to be funny, but I never liked that Mr. Mom crack. In fact, in my opinion you are embodying the very definition of what it means to be a dad: you are putting your families needs ahead of your wants and meeting thsoe needs by doing what you have to do. A real father does what needs to be done, by working oustide the home or in it.
Quiche and fruit sounds fine with me, IDELLE. I love bed and breakfasts. Great experience. There's a great one in Charlottesville that you should try if you're ever there--The Inn at Monticello. Great food.
For some reason, I don't have the same problems in b&bs that I do with hotels. I have to really psych myself into staying in a hotel, and even then I have to bring my own bedding and pillow. My poor wife--it can be an ordeal. Sometimes I will walk in and out of several before I find one I can stomach. I haven't stayed in one in years and don't know if I even could now. Maybe if I take a few extra pills (ha!).
Well, I gotta run but will stop back later. Today we take Chad to meet his teacher. WE brought home his "bucket" last night and he can't wait to see his classroom.

Only been there once and dont know that I have to go back..haha..We'd head to Blacksburg where Tech is. We're not UVA fans. We went to an awesome bed and breakfast in Asheville NC about 7 years ago (honeymoon). I cant remember the name right now though. I am planning to go to one in Savannah in the spring though. Way to go Mr. Dad!! Me-They, you are very wise and your family is blessed. Hey, I know exactly what you mean about Motels. I am alot like that, too. I bring my own pillow and can't stand to sleep under the bedspread or don't even like to sit on it. I also never let the blankets touch my face. My dad always takes a can of Lysol and sprays everything in the room...tv remote, beds, everything. I remember once when I was a teen, we went on vacation out stayed in a Days Inn in Dallas and when we turned back the covers, there were short black hairs on the pillows! Ug! I'll never forget it...am I making you cringe? ha

P.S. Weather conditions(Ernesto) aren't too bad here at my rock. Little drizzle, slight breeze, gloomy skies. Supposed to strengthen a bit,but looks like we'll make out ok where I am.
August 31, 2006 - Msg 44919:
IDELLE and BOO: For me, at least, the thing about hotels is more perception than reality--yet another manifestation of the OCD. You could unload the new furnishings off the truck, bomb the room with germicide, then boil it in a giant pot of water and I'd still have problems.
In memory of Glenn Ford, let's all dress up like G-men and go Glenn Fordin' it all over town tonight.
COLT: If Chad's bucket does end up with any of the recipe in it, I'd better go ahead and finish it off so I can be sure it's disposed off :).
And, by the way, YOU WOMEN STAY AWAY FROM ME WITH THEM SCISSORS!!!

August 31, 2006 - Msg 44920:
Me-They..so you have OCD? Which types? I used to be terrible about 'checking' things. My oldest used to go to the stove before me when we were getting ready to leave and say "off, off, off, off". I knew it was bad! I used to get so irate if the pillows or the blankets were not positioned right..now, i could care less about that.
Possum: Where are you again? SC?
August 31, 2006 - Msg 44921:
Aw, too bad about Glenn Ford. I really liked him.
Don't worry Me-They, we won't be snippin' anything with the scissors. You are safe with us.
Idelle, I think we all have some kind of OCD-like behavior, whether we realize it or not. My sister, who is perfectly normal woman, has to shut every door from the wrong side...when she is leaving and has to shut a door, she reaches around to the other side, pulls the door to her as far as she can and then finishes shutting it on the side closest to her...go figure, just something she has to do. I have a couple of those things, too, but they usually have to do with speaking...I have to say something more than once until it, "feels right", strange, I know.
August 31, 2006 - Msg 44922:
You know, I think we talked about this subject a year or so ago and folks shared some of their, "quirks". As I recall they were really hilarious. Maybe it's something we should do again??

Well Air Force One just departed. He flew right over where I was working, although he was pretty high up there by the time he got over us. Still neat to see.
Possum, thanks for telling us about Glenn Ford passing. To sad.:( Hope your rock don't get to wet.
Me They, 6 inches of rain? Man, where your galoshes. You say you wouldn't vote for Bush a third time if allowed, but I would challange that based on who ran against him. Although he has disappointed me on several issues during his tenure, I believe he is the right man for this time in history.
Sure has cooled off nice here Boo. Temps today are low 70's. Bright sunny skies. Gentle breeze blowing. Well It's perfect is what it is.:)
I'll tell you my quirks if y'all tell me yours.

August 31, 2006 - Msg 44926:
IDELLE: Yeah, nothing too bad, though. Until the past year it was managable, but last summer I had a health scare that sort of pushed it over the edge. While I do a little tracking and checking, my obsessive thoughts mainly manifest in anxiety. Unfortunately, my poor old body just couldn't handle running on constantly high RPMs anymore and decided to let me know it was time to do something. I'm on medication until spring. Basically, we're winding me back to managable.
BOO: I'm not sure I have time to list all of them, although my wife finds my constantly asking if she smells something quite annoying (I'm always "experiencing" smells that I can't place). Also, it annoys her when I come home after she has dusted and re-place all the lamps, knick knacks and pictures back to their original locations. Just can't help myself. To my wife, what used to be quirky is now sometimes aggravating. We'll just leave it at those two for now. Maybe Sean and I could hook-up and talk about mopping techniques :).
ASA: Maybe wading boots will be more like it.

Asa, why do you want to hurt me (by teeling me how cool it is)? Let me tell ya something funny; the other day our local weather man said (seriously): "There is a cool front in our forcast. It should bring temperatures down from 98 to 95 degrees". Can you believe that?! Why bother to tell us? PS-you are right, just trying to analyze me would be a tough job.
Me-They, I understand so much of what you are saying. I really have to control myself or I can get pretty frustrated with Sean's behavior. No matter how much I love him, it can still be irritating, especially that loud vacume. When Sean gets old enough to type on the computer maybe I can get him on here to talk to you about mopping!
August 31, 2006 - Msg 44929:

August 31, 2006 - Msg 44930:
BOO: That quote is Andy talking on the phone. Actually, I can't remember the episode now.
Like I tell my wife, you're gonna miss the clean house once I've passed on. I figure that since women generally live longer than men anyway, and I'm nine years older, our bed might not get made for twenty or thirty years. (Oh, yeah, that's another one; I cannot sleep in an unmade bed, even if I have to make it just to get in it.)
Y'all have a good evening. Anything on tonight?

Howdy, all. Asa, what car chase? If it happened in Irving, it couldn't have been too far from me, because we're not that big, but I didn't know about it. Of course, I don't watch the news much, and I'm usually about a day behind on the newspapers, so I could have missed it.
I'm not much of a sports fan, unless it's my grandson's Tee-ball games. There was a time when I considered myself an avid Cowboys fan, back in the days of Roger Staubach and a few other stalwart gentlemen. We hosted game-watch parties and everything. Then the J-birds (Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson) descended upon us, treated our beloved Tom Landry so shabbily, and totally alienated many thousands of the fans. Most discovered, as did I, that we weren't really Cowboys fans, we were Tom Landry fans, and with him gone, there wasn't much left to applaud. The personal behavior of the players started to deteriorate almost immediately without Tom's sterling influence, and then Jones embarrassed himself completely by referring to the cheerleaders as "my girls", and Texas Stadium as "my stadium". He couldn't imagine why people didn't like him, so to try to remedy that, he hired a New York PR firm to help him polish his image with us Texans. The ignorance of the man is exceeded only by his ego. I haven't watched a Cowboy game in years, and couldn't possibly care less whether they win or lose. I live less than a mile from the stadium, and wouldn't attend a game if they mailed me a ticket. (Are you sorry you brought the subject up?)

To Me-They Msg 44937, since you mentioned televisions in grocery carts, there is a gas station in Windsor Ontario Canada that has televisions installed at every gas pump island. However, they don't broadcast regular programming. They only show commercials for products they sell such as gas specials, car washes, food specials, oil, antifreeze, etc.
To Dixie Msg 44938, glad to hear your mom pulled through surgery. Prayers for her recovery. And as for your blind date problem, have you told him how you feel about him? By accepting his daily attention is probably giving him the wrong impression. Please make your intentions clear to him as soon as possible.
To Mavis Msg 44943, I don't follow any professional sports.

Hey Poor Horatio, a gas station around here has tv's at the pump too. They show CNN on them. First time I ever went in there I could here someone talking to me and dad gum it took me a while to figure out what it was. Small little screen right in the dispenser. Now if they would just show Fox News...
Prayers for your SIL Homemaker, and for Boo to have a safe trip. Come back safe.
That car chase was a big deal Ro. Made all the national news outlets yesterday. I don't remember if they said it went through Irving or ended there. Seemed like it ended there though. The dude crashed into a gas station or a truck parked at one or something like that. Took a lot of police to get him down. He was a big boy and putting up a good fight. In fact I think I heard he had shot at the police sometime during the chase.
I agree with you about the J birds. Never liked Jones and detest Johnson.
Mavis, you don't know who my team is? Yes you do.
I know a lady who won't sip on a straw that has stripes on it. Is that count as a quirk?

September 01, 2006 - Msg 44957:
Hey, Asa. Once again, I'm amazed at the workings of the news media. Years ago, during the "gasoline shortage" (contrived or not, take your choice), my mother-in-law called us from Michigan, all concerned that we were unable to function down here with no gasoline. We were fine! She told us of seeing newscasts with film of lines two blocks long, people waiting to buy gasoline, which was supposedly rationed in Texas. Ha! We were asked to limit purchases to ten gallons, but the lines were at stations who were selling it at regular prices. They also ran pictures of signs with sky-high prices displayed, but no one was buying gas there. That part wasn't mentioned. There were a lot of stations that sold at about a dime more a gallon than the ones with the long lines, and my husband would buy there, reasoning that he wasn't losing any more than he would have lost with the engine idling for an hour in the lines.
Anyway, that leads me to the news report about the car chase. In this case, it was indeed a pretty spectacular chase, evidently. I finally found the account on page 9, section B, in today's paper. No pictures, and just two 8" columns. Apparently the man was mentally deranged, a family member called police and asked for help, and the man ran when the police tried to pull him over. He led them on a very circuitous chase through most of the closely-packed little towns between Dallas and Ft. Worth, including Irving. He tried to run over an Irving officer, and a Grapevine officer shot at the car, smashing the rear window and hitting the man in the arm. Finally, in Roanoke (a spot in the road, 2 traffic lights) he rammed his car into a beer truck and that finally stopped him. It did take several officers and some fancy footwork to bring him down, but they did, and he was hospitalized for the gunshot wound and evaluation of his mental condition.
My point is that it's strange how something like this makes serious national news, and it was such a tiny article in the local paper that I skimmed over it, didn't even read it until you asked about it. I didn't remember seeing it, and had to hunt for it. Besides, in this metroplex, one more nutty driver ramming his vehicle into another one is not exactly considered newsworthy! Well, anyway, thanks for calling it to my attention. It was an interesting story, once I located it and read it.

Mornin' all - Happy September! Hard to believe we're 2/3 of the way through 2006.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes last week, everyone.
After work today, my hubby is heading to Kansas to pick up my MIL and niece to visit for the weekend. Don't have any big plans - just enjoy the company and the weather. Weatherman says no temps over 84° for the next week. I do believe fall is making it's appearance.
Reagan is doing well - she's starting to try and jabber at us a little. It's adorable. Evie is also doing well, although she had to stay home from school today with a fever (and was heartbroken about it).
Good to see Dixie, Mrs Wiley, kygirl and all!
Have a good weekend everyone! Prayers for all.
AFD (Thanks for the APB, MDC : ) - do you ever feel like we're talking in code around here).

Good morning everyone! Cool temps and rain here. A welcome change from the hot, dry weather.
Great to hear from you, AFD. Glad to hear the kids are doing well. Veda also is starting to jabber and really try to explore her surroundings. I hope Evie is feeling better.
Great to hear from you, too, DIXIE. Guess you are "suffering the little children," huh? Well, on behalf of all us parents, thanks! Sounds like you need to lay it on the table for your friend. Some people can't take subtle hints (think Barney Fife). If you already have and he still won't give up, and you want to maintain teh friendship, just hold the line and don't give him anything he can misinterpret as a "go" signal. Us guys are a lot like dogs: we'll stay at the bottom of the tree barking at that squirrel and really kick up a fuss, but eventually we get bored and start nosing around somewhere else. You just stay up in that tree. I'm glad to hear that your mom is doing okay. Prayers for y'all.
Where's MILLIE? I'm kinda worried about her.
Prayers for BOO's safe travels and all the rest of y'all.

I'm ok Tom we are getting alot of rain, but no bad storms or anything. Sure has cooled things down here, thank goodness. The dogs are loving it, those crazy Bull Terriers are out playing in the rain like a couple of kids. I can't believe we don't have more football fans on the porch, surprises me, Asa you know I am starting to suffer from Half-timer's syndrome, I can't remember who your team is, I'm sorry but there, I said it & I ain't taking it back! I'm not working today, for some strange reason, no one wants to get their dogs groomed when it's raining. Wonder what causes that? I'm going to enjoy the day with my 4-legged children, watching the Goldfinches & sparrows fight over the food in the feeders. Little boogers are pigs, there are 8 feeders out there, full of food & they all want the same spot. Makes it fun to watch tho. I'll check back with you folks in a bit.
