October 10, 2006 - Msg 46216: Hahaha! "That must be annoying." I just love it! Leave it to a kid, they'll cut to the chase every time.

I think I've shared this before, but newcomers might enjoy it. When our youngest daughter was about four, we had a discussion going on at the table one night, and she was just listening. The older kids had heard a news report about some horrible crime that was committed, and one asked why God didn't just take all the people who do bad things out of the world. The 4-yr old was eating her dinner, but managed to say "I know why". Her father, ever tactful, said, "Oh, please enlighten us, little wise one!" She turned her big baby blues on him and said very simply, "Because if he did that, there wouldn't be anybody left but him and Jesus." Even the older kids, ages 8 and 10, were taken aback. We all just sat and stared, while she continued to munch away, unaware that she had just dropped a huge theological bomb. Don't you know that God was chuckling at that? He just had to be!

OK, this time I'm really going to bed. Nite, nite, termites. --Romeena

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46217: Wasn't it nice of me to sweep on my way across the porch to go home? --Romeena

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46218: Romeena - you do such a good job of cleaning up after us. . .do you do windows?

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46219: You're right, ROMEENA, they sure do. Neat story about your daughter.

I've noticed lately that the postings during the day have been down the past few weeks. Sometimes I get downright lonely. What is it with you people? Don't you have priorities? What, do have lives to lead or something? Gosh, man, get it together! Posting should be your number three job (after stalking and fly killing, naturally). Jobs, spouses, kids, and that old chestnut of an excuse: sleeping after being up all night--you people are living in another world!

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46220: Afternoon porch. Just stopping by for a minute. been busy today. I need to find a easier job.. one where I don't have to work but can make money anyway? anyone have any ideas? (has to be legal and moral). This working so hard is getting old. Beautiful day around here, but supposed to turn cooler closer to the week end.
Romeena, what great stories you have.. you could write a book of wise saying and wisdoms from your experiences. I know I would buy one and even give them for Christmas! How did we go from October 10th with homemakers message #46218 to Me-they message # 46219 on the 11th. Did I fall asleep at work today? or is it the count around here today? have a good day. Big Maude

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46221: I was just listening to "Fresh Air" (talk about a misnamed show) on NPR. A Pakistani professor who basically is trying to put a positive spin on Islam (his book is called, "Islam Under Seige")was discussing his education. He said that he had attended a Catholic mission school in Pakistan and his wife and sisters had attended a school runs by nuns there. The host questioned him on this and he said that then, and even now, many of the very best schools in Pakistan are Christian schools. He had fond memories of the priests at his school and said he considered them "father figures" who exemplified positive virtues. I found that fascinating. I guess a seed was planted, even if it hasn't germinated yet.

Well, back to the grindstone.

Chip, chirp. That's the crickets on this deserted porch.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46222: Hey there, BIG MAUDE! Wow. I didn't notice that about the date. I've heard about "lost days" but this is ridiculous. I better have an extra day on my paycheck...

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46223: Hey Big Maude,m-t,ro,boo,asa,colt,lucy,mil,possum,hazel,fg,horatio,hm and all!...gosh cool weather has kept me busy around the dog house....prayers to all and promise I will catch up tonight ...supper menu:Big Maude slaw, grilled salmond, king crab legs, hush puppys, tarter sauce, baked taters all the way sweet tea,oj and a tear from my roll of paper towels...ready at 7....SPOT

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46224: Hey SPOT, Salmon is my most favorite food, thanks for thinking of me! :) I will come early and be your taste tester. sounds like a meal fit for a king!! I will bring lots of slaw and a big ole dessert as well. see you for supper. Big Maude

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46225: Posting, listening to NPR radio. When do you get any work done (or is that the plan?)? You know, posting is down even more in the evening than in the daytime. Not sure what is going on. Lot's of folks just don't come around anymore. You are the reason I look forward to Mondays, MDC, because I know you will be back on with some interesting topic of discussion after not much going on during the weekends. Please keep coming back!

Sorry you have to work so hard Big Maude. Hang in there..

Have a good sleep, RO.

Be back later...gotta watch the local weather,

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46226: Hey, all. Big Maude, I'll trade you my salmon for your king crab legs. Deal? I'll eat salmon if it's served in someone's home, but it's not my favorite. Crab legs, however.... YUM!

I've noticed the absences of a lot of our folks, too, and am wondering if there's a message there. Is it possible that we've strayed too far into "support group" mode and political commentary (guess I'm the worst offender there), and lost track of our original platform? Now, I'm not advocating that we stop sharing one another's burdens, I think that's almost a ministry here. As for the political stuff, maybe we should lighten up a bit, and I'm speaking to myself first of all. We probably need to concentrate more heavily on TAGS-related conversation, and make the porch more fun again. What do you think, folks?

Well, I'm off to work again. Drat. Sure wish I could retire, but it's just not in the realm of possibility right now. Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46227: To BigMaude Msg 46220 and M-T Msg 46222, I don't understand what you two are referring to about "lost days" between Msg 46218 and Msg 46219.
According to the source code, Msg 46218 was posted at 21:39:12 (CDT) on October 10 and Msg 46219 was posted at 00:08:50 (CDT) on October 11. Since Msg 46219 was posted after midnight, that's why the day advanced from October 10 to October 11.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46228: To Romeena Msg 46226, I too have noticed how this forum has changed from happy talk about TAGS to very serious talk about politics, religion and prayer wishes. As for me personally, I enjoy variety. However, I can't speak for the others who are not posting. Maybe we need to seek a balance among these subjects that would increase participation.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46229: Hey all, home early tonight, thought I'd rock awhile before getting to the chores. Let me catch up on what I've missed......

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46230: Thanks for the grand welcome back Boo, Me-They, possum, and Millie. Keep your chin up, Millie. We're all praying for you. Big Maude, it's supposed to cool down here too. Yesterday I finally got the garage painted and today harvested all my gourds and pumpkins and painted an old oil barrel. Much more outside work to do. Hope the cold snap doesn't last long.

P.S. No one answered my question about whether or not Andy is ill. Has anyone else heard that or was it just a rumor?

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46231: Hey, PH, hey Romeena. I don't know, Ro, but maybe you're right. I guess it's ok once in a while to express polital opinion, but it's the lighthearted chatter that's beem lacking a little lately. I'll do my part to keep it peppy.
Me-they, what you said about me just floored me. Thank you, friend.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46232: I agree Poor Horatio and Romeena. I must say, as sad days as they were, the posts at the time of Don Knotts' passing were truly "porch-esque!" Many, many funny, funny quotes. (My spell checker wouldn't like my double use of words there, but that's for emphasis!)

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46233: Yes, Charlotte, he has been ill. Last I read,(last week) he was recovered enough to head home to NC.....

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46234: Hey Millie!

Makin' blackberry pie tonite...I'll make an extra for our midnight snack.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46237: Charlotte, I believe he's recovering from a broken hip.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46238: Yes, the tone of the porch has changed, but so have our times. I think folks have a sense of uneasiness right. Face it, there are alot of problems to face and I think it helps to talk about some of those things and to pray for each other. I think that is always in order, but I do miss the way the porch used to feel more like an escape from the real world. Remember the imaginary cyber-trips to the movies in Mt. Pilot and the bonfires at Myer's lake we used to have. We used to talk alot about the way things "used to be" and our memories of a time that was like Mayberry. I do miss that. Maybe we can bring some of that back, especially with the holidays coming up. I know I would really love to hear more of all of your childhood memories, the things that make you love Mayberry and more talk of such. Sometimes it seems like I just run out of things that I haven't already told ya'll about! I will share a memory...let's see...did anyone watch The Pink Panther cartoon on Saturday morning when you were a kid? I never missed it!

May Andy recover soon, poor guy.

Well, promised Erin I would watch a little TV with her before bedtime. I watched Dancing with The Stars tonight and really enjoyed it. Mario was great tonight and so was Emmet.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46239: Howdy Boo, Charlotte, Millie and all the porch. Guess I'm partly to blame for the change on the porch. Have to limit my typing and sure do miss it here. So if I'm not to blame, can I be included? I'll try to be better, less drive-by's and more set'n say Hi's. How's about us 3 girls go over to Mt. Pilot and drive thru town real fast? Or we can go over to Ro's house for tv dinners and look at that George Raft movie? You know, they roll up the sidewalks on this porch at 9:00.

Didn't know Andy was ailin'. Special prayers going up for him tonite.

~ Mrs. Wiley
Andy: "No more Cherry Berry Bean, huh Barn?"
Barney: "Nah. No more Cherry Berry Bean. It was over their heads."

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46240: Ok, y'all, pies are ready. Anybody still rockin'?

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46241:
Hello porch family...good seeing all.

Thanks Spot for the wonderful salmon. And of course Big Maude's slaw was great. Millie, I'll have a piece of that fresh baked pie for a snack tonight. Thanks

Supose to get cooler this weekend. Fall is in the air. I heard today that this winter is predicted to be warmer than normal throughout the country this year. Save on that heat bill....YEA.

Ro...love the story.

Boo...I watched the Pink Panther but one of my favorites was the Flintstones. I also used to never miss the Little Rascals. We had a local guy on tv that was called Mr Knozit that showed the Little Rascal. Some good ole times.

Spot...it's hard to believe Mark is leaving the Fords after all these years. But I understand his reason. Matt is right there at the top in points now.

Well better get ready to hit the bed. You all have a good nights sleep and prayers for you all.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46242: Wow, just seeing you here again feels great, Mrs. Wiley. I think that's a great idea, you call Millie and have her meet you at your house, then I will grab the convertible and pick you both up at your house and we can drive real fast through Mt. Pilot...then we could bust in over at Ro's for TV dinners and a George Raft movie...yeas, sounds like a plan.

REV, I would ask you to come along but it sounds like you are ready for bed. I was a Flintstone fan, too and loved the Jetsons as well.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46243:
Boo-I think you may mean MT with the Monday morning topics. he posts from work and so is not around much on Sat-Sun.
I think you are right tho about the current porch. We are all affected by North Korea, Iraq, scool shootings, DC problems, Colt's situation, parents, music like REV mentioned, PCness etc. Pray, yes, but as I have tried to do and say here, we MUST stand up at such a time as this and not cower in the corner any more. Make a bumper sticker honoring Jesus as i did, do whatever you can. I have a Christian calendar at work etc.
The best saying i have heard is this: "If you were dragged into court just for being a Christian, would they have to dismiss the case for lack of evidence?" Is the world changing the church or is the church changing the world?
But also, yes, lets talk those old times etc. Colt always got us going on such things. Let's do it for him. Man, I miss that guy. We met here, but we really shared a lot off the site and became friends. I love all you folks. You help me relax and drift away for a bit!
OK, just gonna rock fer a while! (:
God bless,

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46244: Whose gonna plan the party at the Remshaw House this year???

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46245: I don't know about that, Boo, y'all are libel to get me in trouble! Mrs, Wiley, will you drive? Howard just hates it when I get "wild".....and Mr. Boysinger can't get wind of it or I'll get fired. He thinks I'm a nice girl.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46246:
Ok, that's the plan, real fast thru Mt Pilot, then over to ro's for tv dinners and a george raft movie!

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46247:
Boo- you got the name for it! haha

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46248: Thanks MDC, you mean alot to use too, and I agree with you.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46249: Y'all are CRAZY!!

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46250:
Hey Folks

Sorry to hear about Andy.

Another beautiful fall day here, 60's sunny and those leaves are something to see.

I think I'm as guilty as anyone pushing politics and current events here on the porch. Sorry, if I stepped on toes, made anyone uncomfortable or hurt feelings, that truly was not my intent. I do think these are "watershed" times we are living in and our way of life and our standing in the world need serious attention. That being said, I will check the politics at the door.

Rev-I'm with you, YABA DUBA DO!!!

"Well, I guess to sum it up, you could say, there's three reasons why there's so little crime in Mayberry. There's Andy, and there's me, and [patting gun] baby makes three."

God Bless,

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46251: You coming to Mt. Pilot with us, MDC. You can drive if you want...I got a feeling you can drive pretty fast and maybe Millie will feel better if you drive...she can't get fired, she's a nice girl!

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46252: Good quote, auh2o, real good.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46253:

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46254:
Thanks Mil

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46255: Boo, Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman are on TCM..."Gaslight"....an oldie but goodie!

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46256:
Just a quick check in before bed....
Boo...I don't think it would look right for a Rev to get caught speeding through Mt. Pilot so I guess you all better go on without me.
MDC..if you go with them, please keep an eye on them. Our porch here has a good name here you know.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46257: Well, that was fun! Was that Skippy and Daphne we almost ran over on Main Street? What were they yelling?

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46258: Auh20, I don't think you need to go feeling bad about anything you might have said, it's all good, brother. I agree with you about the times we are living in. I don't think you need to stop expressing your opinions. The opinions of my friends here on the porch are important to me and help to, "center" my thinking, so to speak.

Right, REV...we understand...wouldn't look good to have you breaking the law or nothin'.

Millie, wish you hadn't told me about Gaslight, I was planning to go to bed early but now I have to go watch the movie! By the way, I think Skippy and Daphne were yelling something about Berney and the Gigolo Club over in Yancey.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46259: Sorry about that, Boo, take solice in knowing I am up watching, too. And when it's over, they're showing the 1940 version....gonna be a long night!

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46260: Hey , Millie yu here tonight?

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46261: Hey, Skippy! Been waiting for you. Porch, this is my friend, Skippy! Just doing laundry and watchin' old movies. Whatcha up to tonite, Skippy? No good? lol.

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46262: ok it is 12:25 and gaslight just went off. Millie where are you?

October 10, 2006 - Msg 46263: You know it. Got off funny story tell you in the mornining. went out for few and have drywall hangers coming over in the morning. Life is looking up..

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46275: From what I gathered on Andy being ill was that he had hip surgery and they were monitoring his heart because he has heart problems. That was around Sept. 22. I did a Google search to find something.

Welcome to all - it's raining here.
Anyone up for having a church social? We could get together and have a little refreshment and maybe give away a tv or something. . . .

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46276: Nice to meet Skippy. Hope the dry wall goes well.

Morning SPOT, hope you are well.

Mornin' Homemaker. A church social sounds like fun. I won't win the TV, though, Barney says I'm a jinx.

Gotta go get Erin ready for school. Sean is sick with a sore throat/virus so he is staying home again today. It's supposed to be 90 again today and tomorrow and then cool off Thursday night...can't wait! Maybe I'll make chili! Hey, it's about time for us to share our chili recipes again...

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46277: We're all making a moulage out of what the porch should or shouldn't be. Sure I love the quotes and TAGS stuff, but I also like the way if I have something I'm concerned about or need advice about I can come here to my trusted porch friends and get some feedback. This is a great group of people and if the conversation sways one way or another so be it. Love to all you and yers!
Charlotte Tucker

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46278: Good morning everyone. Itís chilly and foggy here, but still kinda nice. It was a rough night with the baby last night. Thank goodness the Mrs. was home.

Too political? I know that youíre not talking about me ;). Actually, Iím probably the worst offender of bringing up politics and other controversial subjects. I donít mean anything by it, itís just so much fun to discuss things with yíall. I donít get to jaw about important things too much with others who may not completely agree but are still on the same page. I realize now that I have gone overboard lately. Iím sorry.

I miss the more lighthearted stuff, too. I definitely donít think that we should not throw the prayer requests and occasional serious discussions overboard, but it would be nice to have more light conversation as well. As bizarre as it might be to some, I view you all as friends. I may not know all your names or what you look like, but I feel I know the more important stuffówho you are. I get that by experiencing the range of conversation that takes place. I donít want to just to experience the light veneer but the warts and all. Is that kooky?

So, Iím with those of you who advocate a wide range of discussion. The only thing I wouldnít like to see is chit-chat. I like regular conversation, but I canít stand chit-chat ;).

Unless I hear otherwise, Iím going to continue to share the things that effect my life, and sometimes they just arenít pleasant. But I am going to try and stifle some of my rhetoric (what? me, verbose?). As friends, please donít hesitate to let me know when I need to drop something or just shaddup. Sometimes itís hard for me to see with that darned log in my eye. Yíall are just the best.

Iíll stop back later.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46279: CHARLOTTE: I should have waited for you to post and just said, "ditto." You must be a great editor.

By the way, HORATIO, you may have noticed that the date changed back to October 10 with message 46225. So, we went from the 10th to the 11th back to teh 10th and then again to the 11th. Everthing seems to be posting okay, but obviously the clock is going crazy. FLOYD?

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46280: Eeeek! I forgot my apostrophe! I hope I wasn't standin' nekid begfore you.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46281: CHARLOTTE: You could make a career editing my posts.

BOO: I actually do work. I post for breaks and at lunch and sometimes before I leave. Some people take smoke breaks; I take porch breaks. Better for the health and you don't have to stand outside. But, yes, I share an office with one other person (who often is not in the office) and most days the radio is tuned to NPR. For some reason, the boss turned my request for cable tv.

Well, I better get back to work. Thanks for reminding me.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46282: No, Me-They, that's not kooky. When you love people, you just naturally want to know them. I, too, see you all as friends and love to hear your concerns and opinion, especially your's Me-They because they always make me think...please don't stop expressing yourself. I also think we have some things in common, you tend to be just a wee bit neurotic (no offense meant) in the same areas as me. There is sometimes just almost a compulsion to get something off of our chest and get the opinions of our friends when we are disturbed...am I right? I have a hard time relaxing when I have unanswered questions or concerns. By the way, I never doubted you worked but glad to hear your boss turned down your request for cable. hehe I forgot what ep that "Nekkid" quote came from...can you refresh my memory?

Lot's to do today...laundry, dishes, cleaning , pick up presciptions...get a crimal backgroud check (for some volunteer work I am doing at the local children's drug rehab)...later, friends

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46283: I hope ASA will check in soon. I really miss him and wonder how he is progressing. Prayers for ASA today (and for Colt).

Homemaker, what should I bring to the church social? I was thinking maybe homemade peach pie or cobbler...

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46284: Me-They, Were you the one the other day who mentioned people not posting during the daytime? Well, here I am. One of those lonely porchsters working at home, chained to my computer. Sometimes I feel self-conscious when porchsters start worrying about their apostrophes. Do I have that effect on ya'll? Have a great day.
Charlotte Tucker

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46285: BOO: Well, you know what Barbra says, "people, people who need people, are the luckiest people..." (heehee). I wish ASA would check in, too. Criminal background check, huh? You going to see Upchurch at the State Capital?

CHARLOTTE: You don't make me fret about my posting mistakes. I figure, you're paid to write correctly, but what's in it for me? :)

I'm bringing my grandmother's potato salads to the social. Or at least a close fascimile; she didn't leave her recipe but my mom has been working on duplicating it for years. You wouldn't think figuring out a potato salad recipe would be so hard. Her's was the yummiest (that's a scientific term, y'know).

Early lunch today. I brought enough Hawaiian chicken salad for all, but it's b.y.o.r., though (bring your own roll).

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46286: Hey, CHARLOTTE, remember in the 1970s when computers were being heralded as the key to more leisure time and saving trees? Yeah, that really worked out, huh.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46287: By the way, where are we holding this church social? You can have it here at my little c.1900 county church. The setting is beautiful. But it is Methodist, though, so ixnay on the dancing ;).

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46288: Me-They, I started thinking about what I said about the "neurotic" thing and I hope I didn't make you feel bad. I think you are a really neat person. Yup, gonna go see Upchurch at the state capital...hope my record is clean. If ya'll don't hear from me for awhile you know what happened.

Let's have the social at your little country church, M-T. Hey, Methodists danced when I was a Methodist. I thought it was Baptists that don't dance (at least that's what I thought until I joined the Baptist church and went to a wedding for one of the members. I will never forget my shock at seeing my pastor and his wife dancing to the country tune, "Friends In Low Places"! heehee). How come you are bringing potato salad? Doesn't it contain MAYO??Hmmm???

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46289: Hey Y'all! I try to get on the Porch during the day,but I have Laci from 7-5:30pm which makes it hard to find the time. Can't take my eyes off of her-she's go,go,go! Can y'all imagine what I'll be in for when we get her walking?
Mr Knozit! Ha! Hey Rev,let's go to Columbia Friday when Joe Pinner is doing his weather forecast for WIS and see if we can get him to put his big Mr.Knozit coat on and show cartoons to us! Non-South Carolinians won't have a clue what I'm talking about here, will they? Maybe he'll even ask us what we want to be when we grow up! So Rev,don't make any other plans for Friday,ok?
I've had Asa & Colt on my mind alot lately. Hope they are coming along okay, I miss them both,as I'm sure everyone does.
Well, let me get back to Laci-y'all have a good day!

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46291: For Charlotte Tucker and anyone else interested, to learn more about Andy Griffith's current health status, click here, and then click on the Andy Griffith's Health Is Failing link in the center of your screen. I could not post the full link here since it won't pass the WORD TOO LONG censor.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46292: Hey Boo-I'm Methodist and I'm fixin' to dance at that church social! How come I can't? Hee Hee

possum again

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46293: Hey Possum. Don't know Mr. Knozit, I'm afraid, but ya'll have fun. I was watching Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Green Jeans and Dancing Bear...and after that, the Dialing For Dollars movie...they showed movies like Godzilla and Jason and the Argonauts.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46294: You're funny Possum. I say let's dance till our socks are hot and ravelin'!

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46295: That reminds me, I'm gonna drive out to the Darlin's place and see if the Darlin Boys will come play at the social. Not only can they play, but they are such brilliant conversationalists.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46296: Well - it sounds like church social is definitely a done deal. Boo - I heard you were a jinx but we won't take no offense (I'll rub my little boy's red head just to make sure though).
I think someone should make Baked Alaska in honor of Asa - you know how is bonkers over his toolbelt, mullet and baked Alaska.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46297: Who has hot socks?

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46298: BOO: Who are calling neurotic? Me? Did you say something about me? Are you talking about me behind my back? No offense taken at all! Now if you were to have said I'm sensitive, that would have been different. The only thing I'm sensitive about is people calling me sensitive.

Yes, I hate mayo. I am loathe to admit that it is sometimes necessary. But, only the absolute minimum amount to actually hold the potato salad together must be used. Or I will be totally grossed out.

Let me rephrase that dancing thing: Methodists are not supposed to dance. Hot socks or no. You can play tunes but no clapping. And as far as that raffle goes, you can forget that gambling, too! What are trying to do, turn this into a regular Sin Town? About the Baptists, my nephew (whose Baptist) once had this to say: "Baptists can't do anything."

That reminds me that I was watching CMT last night and heard Dolly Parton talking about her grandfather, who was a "holy-roller preacher." She said that the way he preached on Hel*l you could feel the heat. I thought that was funny.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46299: By the way, you are still invited to the social, BOO, even if you do consider yourself a jinx. I'm not superstitious. I'm cautious.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46300: hm, I got hot knees! Hey y'all. just woke up from that wild night with Millie, Boo and MDC. I told ya that they serve beer over the county line! Sure hope I didn't buy a cow and ride it. All I can remember is some squeaky ladies shouting something about Barney over at the jiga-something in Yancey. Oh my head... what a mess I've made of my life...

On a more serious side, I didn't mean to imply that political soapboxing was a bad thing, and I dearly love the religious discussions here. I think it's all good. Sometimes it's hard to scroll thru the long list of entries (some things may be more apropriate for IM-instant messaging), but it's all good. Just don't mention... VICKS!

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46301:
Oh sure, we quit discussing politics and y'all start dancing!!! I knew it! I knew it!

Wait until Romeena and Rev see y'all dancing around. The Shame of it all.

I have to go sit down.

"We got trouble right here in..."

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46302: Boy, you'd never know I had a college edukashun from my posts. My old English teacher must be spinning in her grave. She isn't exactly passed, but I am convinced that only the undead could be as mean as she.

I will NOT dance! I will NOT dance!...

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46303: M-T, your education was worth every penny. ~ Mrs. Wiley

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46304: Woohoo! Things sure are lively and Mayberry-esque around here. I love it! I agree with all that has been said. Like I said at the beginning, I was mostly referring to myself. Being a widder lady, and no one home to talk to but the Plum, who doesn't listen most of the time, I tend to abuse this forum for expressing my opinions, and I'm going to try to remedy that. I still want to know what everyone else thinks, though, because there's a lot to be learned. You folks have some marvelous insights. However, let's keep the fun stuff coming, too. Today has seemed like old times.
Some big old heavy-duty prayers for our dear Andy are in order. Thanks, Poor Horatio, for that link. Looks pretty serious, but Andy's tough, and we'll keep praying.

Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46305: You know what they say about widders, ROMEENA. Just ask Uncle Ollie ;).

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46306: According to our Floyd, Andy is home and recovering well and has been for some time. (I read it over at Miss Crumps a few weeks back but the post is now gone). The article is exaggerating to a great degree. Maybe Floyd can pipe in here sometime with an update.

Miss Reagan (who is the reason I don't post too often : ) ) has rolled over tummy to back for the first time today! She's also been trying to sit straight up from a reclined position. It's too cute!

Great job spot and Cobb EMC!

Well just a short note - off to take care of baby! God bless ya'll and prayers all around for my porch friends.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46307: Also forgot a big "hey" to Mrs Wiley and CT! Good to see you both.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46308: That Reagan is ahead of the curve, AFD. She should be doing gymnastics soon. Veda is perking up quite a bit but still at least a few weeks away from rolling over I expect. When do we get to see pictures? Remember the photo album y'all.

ROMEENA: Don't stop expressing your opinions, please. I think that would be a great loss for most of us. Oh, except when it comes to Vicks and Miracle Whip. After all, religion and politics are one thing, stinky greasy medications and condiments are another ;).

Anybody have a good remedy to get coc*ktail sauce out of light colored khakis?

Y'all have a great evening.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46309: Howdy my porch family!!!

Hope all is well!!!

Just wanted to let you know, over on MSN.com(if you've been there before)in the little box with the pics in it to the left of the screen, where they advertise stuff, they've got a section called"What would Barney do?", refering to the one and only Bernard Milton Fife of course!!! I just noticed it on my way to post here, and thought I'd let you know!!! Now I'm gonna go read it!!!

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46310: I just love good idle conversation when it comes to Vicks and Miracle Whip. . . .

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46311: Me-They you are in some form today! You nearly made me spew my Miracle Whip sandwich. Hilarious stuff (especially the part about widders and Uncle Ollie...can imagine the look on Romeena's face when she read it).

As far as the coc*tail sauce goes, I think that OXY Magic spot remover works great on just about anything I have tried. Just spray it on realy good, rub and let it sit for a few minutes before putting it in the washer. Even if the spot doesn't come out the first washing, chances are it will if you repeat the process.

Think I'll go to church meeting tonight, we are having visitation (that is one thing Baptists CAN do, M-T). Need to shower and shave the legs (wouldn't want to scare off any potential new members).

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46312: Afternoon, all! Me-They, you are very kind. I admire your wit and gentle humor. Your spiritual gift, I think, is to be a peacemaker and an encourager. As for me not expressing my opinions, I do want to modify things a bit, but in truth I think there's only one thing to say about that - fat chance! (harhar)

It's good to hear that the stories of Andy's condition are outdated and overblown. That's good. We need his gentle presence on this planet. There are just some people who become icons, and it's hard to imagine the world without them in it. Steve Irwin was one. I miss him, I really do, and my heart breaks for Terri. Forget JFK and Jackie, if you ask me, Steve and Terri found Camelot.

Sugarplum says 10-4. --Romeena

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46313: Is that your honest opinion RO, or are you modifying things a bit?? heehee

When's the church social, Homemaker? I asked the Darlin's and they said they would come and provide the music (I told them absolutely NO Mulberry Squeezins!). Guess we better find out if IDELLE is coming because things could get mean if Charlene shows up.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46314: A big ol 'hey' backatcha AFD! Good to hear that about the Darling's Boo. Let's hope "the boys" don't do any of the cooking. I don't think Hoot-Owl Pie is right for a Church Social. They's terrible cooks. Perfectly good hoot-owl plum wasted.

Speaking of Plum, how's our lil mascot doing these days Ro? I agree, Andy is one of those all time great's that will be crushing to me to lose (like Don was). But good to know we'll all be together in The Great By And By. Me-They, try icewater, then a spot remover. Should do the trick.

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46316: Howdy friends! Been such a busy day! Tommorow I go on a field trip to the pumpkin patch with my 4 yr old's class....oughta be fun. Can't wait for that church social....what should I bring? Speaking of which, this weekend we're going to Homecoming at our family church at the beach(down Andy's way)...we're celebrating 150 years! Isn't that something? Oops, hear a kid fussing, back in a few....

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46317: The Plum is fine, Mrs. Wiley, thanks for asking. She'll be twelve in December, but you'd never know it. Zips around here like a puppy, all self-important and full of energy. Her vet is still watching the possible Cushing's syndrome thing, wants to draw blood again in three months. However, she's lost half a pound with no changes in her diet, and that's good. Cushing's causes weight gain, not loss. I think it may have been just a metabolic "hiccup", nothing to worry about. We'll see. Meantime, she seems to be just fine.

Well, I'm thinking of heading for bed early tonight. Didn't sleep but an hour or so after I got home from work this morning, and am feeling it. You all have a great evening, the Plum and I are going to hit the ironing board. She says 10-4. --Romeena

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46318:
Hi Folks! Just to let you know my current situation on posting, I , like MT, used to post at lunch and breaks, but now at this bank job i have restricted access, (I tried to sweet talk the IS guy, like HM did, but that didnt go over very well! ha). So, since i dont have net at home, I will only be able to post about once a day from the library. I just read my latest post and was perhaps too strong, sorry. But we have to stand up and be counted, whether we're dancing or not! (ha)
Hope Lucy, Dixie, AFD and others are ok.
CT, Auh20, MT etc, sure let's have those discussions too, but we should always come back to TAGS in my humble opinion ,like they do at Miss crumps.
Like today, that plane crash just made my heart sink. I prayed. But i can also come here and be lifted up! THANKS!
Boo, when you get those prints done, get your 50 cent bike licence renewed too! ha
BARN DANCE AT SPOTS! Sure, us Darlings will be happy to play. Jump in and hang on...
bwb- Let's watch the new class of dwarfs race at the dirt track!
Prayers for Andy, colt and all! God bless,

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46319:
Hello everyone....the porch is alive today. wow

Welcome Skippy

Possum...that is so funny that you know all the things about Mr Knozit. I know you surely watched him with all that info.

Boo...I used to watch the Captain too.

Spot...thanks for the snack...right on time.

Prayers for you all. Have a blessed night!

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46320: Hey Mrs. Wiley, Ro, Millie, and MDC (sure hope Ro gets a good night's sleep, bless her heart).

Wish we could hear from you more often, MDC. Don't you have a computer at home yet?

Millie, the pumpkin patch sounds like fun. They try to do that down here but the pumpkins get real mushy quick because of the heat. Walking around and sweating in a pumpkin patch just doesn't seem right, you know?

Tonight at church I met a woman who is new to the church. Her name is Sharon and she is a really sweet Christian lady. She started telling us that she has a son who is in his early 20's, I think and has been missing for 5 years. He got involved with drugs and they don't know if he is dead or alive. I can't imagine what that poor mother is going through. She broke down and cried when she was telling us. They are very nice, decent people. Her husband was the director of a University and now is teaching high school. I feel so sorry for them. The boy's name is Nathaniel and I wanted to ask you all to send up a prayer for him and his parents, please. I appreciate it (you folks are the best).

Gotta go, still have to put together a jello salad for a luncheon tomorrow and finish my homework for bible study tomorrow...

October 11, 2006 - Msg 46321: Hey REV, didn't see you there. May you have sweet sleep!

October 12, 2006 - Msg 46322: Thanks for welcoming to the porch. Drywall will go well by this weekend. It is well needed for the room and me.

October 12, 2006 - Msg 46323: Good morning - did I mention MDC that chocolate chip cookies are a good bribe?!

I think we can plan for the social next Saturday nite - maybe Asa can join us, just as long as he doesn't bring that tin foil collection of his. Has anyone heard from Asa or Mrs. Asa lately?

Prayers and hugs for all. . .it's a downright cool morning here - 31 - shiver, shiver.
