November 27, 2006 - Msg 47403: Sure, Boo, I'll be happy to. Actually, I have some taken last year, could post them. The pond expansion wasn't done then, though, and it makes it prettier now. Maybe I can get a couple of shots this evening before I leave for work. --Romeena

November 27, 2006 - Msg 47404: Oh, and that's okay, no thanks needed for sweeping. I didn't have anything else to do at the moment. The Plum said she'll dust, if you all don't mind if she uses her tail. It's clean, and it's hard for her to hold a dustcloth, since she has no thumbs. --Romeena

November 27, 2006 - Msg 47405: Thanks Ro, either last year or this year would be just fine. I want to see what those lighted deer look like. Earlier today when I had a minute, I looked back at the archives for December, 2002 and was reading our discussion about the Frio river and the trips we used to take. It was great, look it up if you get the chance. I think it is on archive page for December 18.

Well, Sean is home sick with a cold (caught the one Erin had, I guess). I just got home from the store to get the makings for turkey soup. Any of you have a good recipe for that? I also bought a brisquit to cook in the crock pot later in the week. I have heard they are real good slow-cooked like that.

My Christmas tree looks to pretty. I am really enjoying it so far. I was just in the dollar store and they were playing Christmas music over and over already. I feel sorry for the clerks; that is gonna get real old in about 2 weeks!

I'm looking down at the nativity scene under the tree and I am noticing the participants aren't in their right places. Erin was playing with it last night and Mary is outside and the Shepherd is inside with Joseph and a donkey. Kids!

I am pleased to announce that little Goobette (also known as Miranda Rose, Mindy for short) proudly arrived this past Wednesday (exactly a week early!). Momma and baby are doing well...she's quite the looker...even if I do say so myself!

I'm gonna be home with them this week...so I'm sure I'll get real good and used to all the 'fun' baby brings!

Ya'll be good...trying to catch up on the archives....

Ro=funny what you said about opening the cookies in the store. Sometimes in our summer heat when I go grocery shopping, i will drink a bottled water from the cooler and the clerk is so surprised when he scans an empty bottle! ha
Remember the old noisey cash registers, and the clerk had to look on a "tax chart" to add the tax? Also, everything was priced. My first job as a box boy i would also (KLUNK KLUNK) stamp prices on cans!
BOO- Cecile and i went to a new Whataburger near our home and on the wall were framed photos of Whataburgers in various places. One was the one on the bay, Corpus Christi! Is your santa and sleigh white (now probably yellowish) and red plastic? When you said 60s, i think i had one!
I see you are noticing the natural cures of many of natures things. I'll win you to the oregano soon! haha Garlic and oregano are also great cancer cell destroyers. Next year at this time we'll all come over and say, "Boo family, move that bus!" BTW, Merry Christmas darling is my wife's favorite, and O Holy Night.
ASA- wow, a shower and everthang! All dressed up and nowhere to go! ha
Millie- sounds like you had a great thanksgiving!
Hope the dishwashers helped with the clean up.
I see that Target, Wal Mart and Sears are actually saying CHRISTMAS again in their ads and stores! We can make a difference! I never understood the idea behind "holiday tree" anyway. There is only ONE holiday that uses a tree!!
I wonder if it would help if we sent a copy of Its a Wonderful Life to everyone in the middle east? hmmmm
METHEY- waht a special uncle! he is a gem, a bird in this world!
DWF- I still get one dvds in now and then.
Well, God bless ya all. Prayers galore!
I'm about ready for Andy and Ellie to sing Away in a manger.

How neat that you saw a picture of our Whataburger. It really is a very nice one, and big (2 story), with a very picturesque view of the bay. To answer your question about my vintage Santa, yes, he is red and white plastic with holly and a green tree in the back of his sleigh...so cute, I love it. I will send a picture of it on the tree to Ro.

Well, have to go get Erin from my sister's house and bring her home. Aunt Suzie's house is her favorite place to be. Her picture is on Ro's site with her Aunt Suzie so check it out if you haven't yet and start bragging about my children, will ya?!

Hey to all - hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We were able to visit a while with my family in Kansas and my 93 yo grandma got to see Reagan Joy for the first time. Had a good time but it was good to get back home as well.

Hard to believe it's only 28 days 'til Christmas. I did get my tree up Saturday - due to my 6 yo's incessant nagging!. Only have one present bought so far - guess I'd better get going before Christmas eve gets here.

Have a good evening everyone.

BOO: Thanks for the heads-up. I'll check the movie out. And thanks for the clean shorts :). Yeah, visiting my great uncle really made me sit up and take notice of all I have to be thankful for; and that thankfulness is less dependent on the "outside" stuff, than it is on the "inside" stuff.

TOM: I'm so sorry for your family's troubles. You all are in my prayers.

AFD: Hey stranger. Glad all is well with little Reagan.

MDC: Can I drive the bus!?! Please!?!

Well, I'm going to say a prayer for the Pope's safety as he travels in Turkey today. He has received a number of death threats and there's a real possibility for violence. I admire the fact that he's reaching out to Muslims but not by taking the line that Islam is a religion of peace. He's sticking to what he believes is the truth but still reaching out in love. Anyway, that's the way I see it.

Roeena

November 28, 2006 - Msg 47431: Hi, wanted to share some exciting news with you (at least it is to me...and no, I am not pregnant!). Remember awhile back I told you all about a bible study I had attended at the drug rehab here for youth? The leader is a strong Christian woman named Diane and I had been sitting in on the study to see if I could help in any way and I was so blessed by the girls (age 13-16). We would meet in a little room and cram about 20 of the girls in there but I loved it. The girls were from such difficult backgrounds, most abused or from foster homes. Many never receive a letter from anyone while in the facility. There are 2 bible studies that meet each week for the girls. One on Monday night, that one is lead by Diane, and one on Tuesday night, led by a woman named Kat. Well, I was feeling like kind of a third wheel in the class and wanted to get more involved. My great desire was to teach a study, myself, but that didn't seem possible. I emailed Diane about 3 weeks ago and told her that I really wanted to get more involved and was willing to do whatever needed to be done (no job too small, so to speak). She never responded to my email so I thought maybe she had written me off or didn't really want me to help but I was praying about it and felt like I was wrong and should just wait and see what God had in mind. Well, Diane called me today and said that she had not responded because she has been in prayer about it and the woman (Kat) who leads the Tuesday night class has suddenly had to move out of state. Diane said she really felt that the Lord brought me along to step into Kat's shoes and take over the Tuesday night study. I am so excited about it. I start tonight, so please pray for me and the girls. Most of them are new Christians and new girls are coming into the facility each day. I really want to be able to share Jesus with them in a way that they can understand and receive Him. Also, I need to pray about the Lord sending me an assistant to help me. Your prayers would mean so much! I love you guys,

Boo

November 28, 2006 - Msg 47432: That is exciting news, BOO. The Lord's timing is always right. I'm sure that you will be an excellent leader and Christian example to those young girls.

November 28, 2006 - Msg 47434: Good evening, all. Just passin' by on my way to work, second and last shift this week. I'll be doing the happy dance all the way home in the morning. You know what the happy dance is, don't you? Think Snoopy.

No lights on in the back yard tonight. When I got home this morning, the pond pumps were still, which told me the GFI had tripped. A little rain during the night, guess it shorted something. So, I unplugged all the deer, reset the GFI and it works. Tomorrow, I'll be out there with my duct tape, wrapping connections and wondering why I bother. Then tomorrow night, I'll be sitting here at this window, looking at my own personal little Christmas wonderland, and I'll know the answer to that question. Will get some pictures in the album soon. You all do know we have a sub-album for Porchsters' Christmas, don't you? Please send me pictures!

Hey, welcome to our new porchster! Roeena, we're happy to have you, but as Me-They said, the name similarity might cause some confusion. Trust me, you don't want to be confused with me! I've set on this porch for many a year, and I have a reputation you might not want to share. Besides, I'm old! I'm in my forties, and I admit it! (teehee)

Well, I'm off to work. Twelve hours, and I'll be home with the Plum, with five whole days of freedom ahead of me. You all have a lovely evening now, you hear? Sugarplum says ho, ho, ho. --Romeena

November 28, 2006 - Msg 47437: Good evening everyone! I've been 'eavesdropping' on your porch conversations for several months now and feel like I know you. Thought it was time that I joined the group. I was especially excited to hear Boo's news. I will be praying for you. I volunteer (every second and fourth Tues. of each month) at our local pregnancy crisis center and I love sharing the gospel with the ladies that come in. Boo, isn't it wonderful how the Lord was working behind the scenes to lead you to the place where He wanted you to be? So much to do, so little time...

Miss Peggy

P.S. Does someone already have that name? She was my favorite of all of Andy's girlfriends. :)

November 28, 2006 - Msg 47438: Hey Miss Peggy! I don't think anyone is already using the name. I'm so glad you decided to join in on the conversation. Yes, I am very thankful that the Lord has allowed me to share in his work with the girls in rehab. Tonight was amazing (nothing to do with me, I assure you). I had 14 girls in the class most were 14 or 15. I let them all share a little about themselves and I just couldn't believe how terrible their circumstances were. Most were placed in rehab by child protective service after being taken out of foster care. Some were beaten, some lived homeless on the streets with their drug-addicted parents (if they had parents). Some had both parents serving prison time. It was very sad but the girls were just so full of grace and so thankful to God for bringing them there so they could find the Lord. You should have heard the questions they had. They are so hungry to learn about God and they prayed such beautiful, faith-filled prayers. And some shared testimonies about how God has changed them and how they want to live right. I was just bowled over. It is just like a dream seeing the way the Lord is working among those girls. I was full of joy! I sure wish all of you could have been there to witness it.

Hey, MDC, you are so kind to be concerned. Don't worry about me spreading myself too thin. It's only and hour a week and I left feeling better than I had in weeks!

Hope Ro's night isn't too tough. Prayers for her tonight.

Thanks Millie for those very encouraging words!

Welcome to Miss Peggy. We need a porchter who can make chicken with the crust on it like I like it. Spot try's but his fried chicken sometimes misses the mark. To start off with he only gives you two wings, and from a chicken that's done a lot of flying. But that's a whole other story entirely!
And be weary of someone from Indiana bearing meatballs. They is leathal, trust me!

Romeena, I have to laugh at your comments about chasing down loose connections while muttering why do I do this, and later when it's all working and looking nice, you know why you do this. Ain't life funny.

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47448: You can as far as I'm concerned, Me-They. I'm just waiting to see how many believe my "forties" assertion, because I have some Confederate bonds I'd like to sell.

Goober, congratulations on little Goobette, aka Miranda Rose. What a lovely name. I'll bet she's even prettier than her name, too.

Boo, I think what you're doing with those girls is just wonderful, and I wish you well. What a challenge, and what a blessing. I remember once when my dear husband and I had taken a young woman to lunch after church one day. She was a visitor, a seeker, as it turned out. In the course of conversation, she said that she had trouble accepting God as her heavenly Father, because her image of fathers wasn't very good. Hers was an abusive alcoholic, who died without ever mending the hurts he had caused. She said she just didn't think a father was a very good image for God. My husband asked her if she had a vision in her mind of what she would have liked her father to be. Oh, yes, she definitely did. Well, my husband told her - God is that father. He can and will be everything to you that you would have wanted in a father. Don't think of Him like your father was, but rather like what you wish he had been. She stared at my husband like he had suddenly sprouted wings, then began to cry, and said she had never considered that. Not long after, she accepted Christ and became a loving and precious member of our church family.

Well, I'm pooped. Just clemmed. I need a nectarine crush and a moon pie, and to sit with my feet up and watch TAGS for a while. Rough night last night, delivered patients overflowing into triage rooms that are little more than broom closets, and some griping because they couldn't have a "nicer room". They're lucky they weren't on the floor. And most of them would have been, had they been back where they came from. (That's tacky, I'm sorry.)

Have a lovely day, folks. Sugarplum says ho, ho, ho! --Romeena

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47449: Asa, I'm jealous of your 8 degrees! I LOVE cold weather. Me-They, I had to laugh at your 'New Aw-leens because I purposely didn't use the word ya'll in my first message. Prayers again today for the pope. And for all those that needs them.

The Mrs. has had another tough couple of days. She has all of about an hour nap on Monday before having to work all night, then got maybe three hours sleep yesterday before heading back. The poor thing looked like a zombie this morning (a cute zombie, though). She won't get but a few hours nap today either. We're still trying to figure out what to do about the situation. I know that mothers and wives gladly suffer for their families, but she can't continue like this. It's not healthy. Keep her (and us) in your prayers, please.

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47453: Thank you for sharing that story, RO. Your husband's wisdom was right on. I think I will share it with the girls. I have thought about what you said. I know that all of them either have no father, father has dies, or are abusive or addicts. They all probably feel pretty bad about themselves and I hope I can help them to understand God's unconditional love for them. I have mentioned my best friend, Karen, who is a single mom. She grew up New York city in a terrible home situation with both parents being very abusive, even putting her in the hospital. Her dad was terrible and he died before anything was resolved (I think he was a drug user, if I recall). Anyway, she became a Christian in her early 20's and moved to Texas and immediately became family to me. The Lord allowed me to disciple her and just bonded our hearts. She is as much a sister to me as my own blood sister and her children are my neices and nephews. We even spend most holidays together. Anyway, for years after being saved, she had a terrible struggle with perceiving God as a father who would really love her. Finally after years, the Lord just changed her and now she "gets" it. I have also had alot of struggles with that same issue. My dad was an alcoholic and wasn't there for me and my family. The Lord has made me understand his love for me but I was a Christian for over 20 years before I finally understood. God has taught me so much about his love and grace in the last 2 years and now I see that I can share it with others who are going through the doubting.

Ro, I'n not surpised that you had a tough night because I was laying in bed last night before going to sleep and I felt like you needed prayer so I prayed for your strength. I'm glad you are off for a few days. Hope you enjoy them.

I'm with you, Peggy. I love the cold weather and can't wait until I get to Colorado next month! I am going to literally roll in the snow (I'll think of you!).

Homemaker, I don't remember the other Miss Peggy. What happened?

Hey to Me-They, come back later and leave us a nice, long post, maybe start a moulage about something...??

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Asa. You bless me every day that you are here on the porch. I really missed you when you were out.

Hey Maude, how nice that you have your lights and tree up. Hope you enjoy the cool weather that is coming to you. We are supposed to really cool off here tomorrow. Supposed to get into the 50's tomorrow afternoon and into the 30's tomorrow night (that is WAY cold for a South Texan). I can't wait...

Better go get something done

Boo

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47454: Oh my, Me-They, I just read your last posts. I feel so badly for your wife. You're right, she can't go on like this. It's not safe for her or even for her patients. Is there any way she can call in or take a personal day this week? I wish so much that I was there to help her. Do you have any relatives or church friends who could help out for awhile? Maybe an older woman who would love to help out and spend time with the children? What about asking your mom or mom-in-law to come for a week or two and just give your wife a break? It sounds like it's time to ask for some help and I'm sure your friends and family wouldn't mind. I know I wouldn't. I know what she is going through, as I have been a very busy nurse and mother of babies. It's hard to understand how hard it is until you have been there. Please get her some help, Me-They before she crashes. My prayers are with you.

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47455: Hi All.
TO A DEAR FRIEND

I met you in the early Spring
so many years ago
when life was slow and easy,
no rushing to and fro.
you called me friend wit voice so warm
I kneew right from the start
our bond of friendship had begun
that never would depart.
so many hopes and dreams we've shared,
some disappointments too.
I always knew tat come what may,
that I could count on you.
though miles may separate our paths,
we're never far apart.
for you, dear friend, will always be
Special in my heart.

LOVE TOM

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47456: Thanks, BOO. Unfortunately, while we do get some help from our mothers, the biggest problem can't be handled that way. Veda just does not sleep during the day, and, because she is mom-fed, she can't be far from her. The Mrs. pumps, but we use that when she works and you can only pump so much. And the Mrs. is just adamant that she will mom-feed for the first year as she did with the other kids. Hopefully, it will get easier when we start ro supplement with cereal at six months. I can't wait for real food--that will lessen the need for mom-feeding.

The Mrs. takes her babies nutrition very seriously: mom-fed for one year, no solids before 6 months, no processed baby food (they eat what we do, only mushier), no sugary foods for the first two years, and no sugary drinks for first five years.

I'm trying to adjust my work schedule and trying to get more help at home. Hopefully, a combination of things will help us get through this first year. It will get much better in the summer, when her mom is off school and gladly comes over more often. It took us a lot of convincing, but we finally got her to accept some money each week. Even though she happily watches the kids after she works on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until I get home, we felt horribly guilty about it. Plus, she really could use the money. This way, its a win-win for everybody.

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47457: Hello, TOM. Nice poem, as usual.

About that moulage, BOO, take your pick...

1. Mayo: Yuck!!!
2. How about amnesty for illegals?
3. I like the color episodes of TAGS more
4. Ted Kennedy is my hero, and a great driver.
5. Bah, humbug!

;)

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47458: Ok New handle for me! I am now AHappynut.
I was wanting to find out just what everybody does here. Do the differnt chapters meet?

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47459: Ok, I am going to start a moulage all my own...there are some things more important than breast-feeding for a full year with supplementing with formula now and then, like not having mommy have an accident on her way to work because she hasn't had any sleep....there, I said it and I'm not taking it back! ha....no, I am kidding, but I don't know how she is going to last till the summer this way. Hopefully the baby will be requiring less milk soon. I have forgotten how old she is now?

I'll pick a new moulage: How about number 4. Ted Kennedy is my hero, and a great driver....I don't think we have done that one yet...

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47460: I grew up watching the program. Right now I live in New York state --again. Have lived in Chicago NYC and L.A--but Mayberry will always be home.

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47461: Hello, AHAPPYNUT. We like all kinds of nuts here.

BOO: I agree, of course, even if you were joking. But some of you women think that you can spread yourselves so thin. Does that sound like anyone you know, BOO? ;) Like I mentioned, we are working on finding a solution.

Now, about Ted Kennedy, I hear he's moving to Texas to become its senator...

Me-They

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47462: Oh, she is a little more than for months old now.

M-T

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47463: Yes Me-They, it does sound like me but it's always easier to give advice to someone else! ha If the baby is 4 months old, I'll bet things will be getting easier soon. When Sean was a baby, he was murder and I was working part-time at the time (12 hour shifts). I breast fed but I swear, the kid never slept. Luckily, my sister lived nearby and she would come over during the day, bring Sean to me to feed and then let me take a nice, long nap in the afternoon. It would have been so hard, otherwise. My husband was the old-fashioned type that didn't get up and help in the middle of the night. I would liked to have continued to breast feed Sean for a year, but I went back to work after taking family leave for 3 months and the first night back, I had a patient with what they call a, "fever of unknown origin". She had something strange that they couldn't pinpoint and her baby was born with it and was transferred to the infant ICU. When the patient's doctor heard that I was caring for the patient she made me take a different assignment and told me I should not breast feed my baby until the cultures were back and they knew what germ they were dealing with. Three days later they found out and by that time, Sean had only taken the bottle for three days and wanted nothing to do with breast-feeding (the bottle is much easier for them to get milk from so they prefer it after awhile). I was dissapointed and not ready for it but I didn't have a choice. It did make it easier for me, though because either my mom or sister could take over for me. I didn't have the same problem with Erin. She slept much better than Sean ever did! Now that I know he has some neurological problems, I wonder if it had anything to do with his lack of sleep back then. Bottom line, the first year with a baby is just not easy, is it? They grow up so quickly, though.

If there is one place Ted Kennedy would never come, it's to Texas!

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47469: I'm in for dinner, too. Save me a seat facing away from the kitchen, please.

BOO: No, kids ain't easy but they're so worth it. What little blessings. The Mrs. is a dedicated pumper. We invested in a nice mom-pump with our first and she's used it for the others. She does it at least once while at work and again in the morning. We have a freezer full of it.

Yesh! Such conversation. I feel like I need to talk about tools and building stuff to cleanse the pallete, so to speak.

Well, this is probably my last post for today (it's been slow at work, can you tell?) so I'll talk to y'all tomorrow.

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47475: Hi All
It going to start gitting cold this weekend , but for now it is raining.
Spot want some more bill , you can have me .
Will I see that no one is going to help me fine gum wrapper for te chang so fare I git some from a candystore that I write to,

LOVE TOM

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47476: Tom, I will send you some wrappers this week. Sorry, been busy, but I didn't forget ya.
Millie

November 29, 2006 - Msg 47477: Evening, all. Tom, I imagine most folks are like me, and just don't have access to gum wrappers. I don't chew gum myself, and my grandson is the only one in the family who does, and the kind he likes doesn't come in the wrappers like you want. Gosh, I even watch for them on the ground, but never find any. I think it's amazing that you've built that chain so long, as scarce as the wrappers are.

Wow, Spot, you had a winner of an idea with those crab legs (burp), they were so good. Boy, I can eat a ton of 'em! Crab legs and lemon butter - nothing better! Well, unless it would be lobster and lemon butter, but to eat as much lobster as I ate in crab legs would require a mortgage.

Ted Kennedy in Texas? Wouldn't that be sort of like an oxymoron? With emphasis on the moron? Actually, I guess he's not really so dumb, just crooked and amoral - he literally got away with murder, got family members off on various criminal charges, and keeps getting re-elected. I guess the voters are the morons. Now, how's that for starting a moulage?

Lights are back on in the back yard tonight, hope I found all the wet connections. If not, I'll wrap some more tomorrow. My sunroom now holds one small bouganvillea, one huge, trellis-trained bouganvillea, and one 8-ft Plumeria tree in a humongous pot. Thank the Lord for good friends and neighbors - one of them came and moved those heavy things into the house for me. I could never have done it, and my son is out of town, and it's supposed to freeze tonight. Yep, predicting 27 degrees, with a high in the 70's tomorrow. Nowhere but in Texas!

Well, I never got that nap today - phone kept ringing, so I think I'll turn in early tonight. Everyone have a great evening. Sugarplum says ho, ho, ho! --Romeena
