At time wind we can used someone to cry to and heard how thing are goimg wrong for us.
We all come here to are friend for help us what it .

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59746: What a beautiful thought, Tom. "A porch of love, hope and prayer." I guess it just doesn't get any better than that.

And then after making such a profound statement, our friend Tom took the time to grab a broom and sweep. What a guy! --Romeena

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59747: Just one more reason why Tom is a keeper!

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59748: Very well put Tom.
Prayers for your Son Romeena. I know that must be hard to deal with and feel like you can't be there with him. We lift you both up in prayer.
Hope your ordeal went ok Possum and the results are good. I'm sure they will be.
Boo, you are a sweet caring Lady. Don't ever change.
Homemaker, I'm with you there on Rush. I listen to him as much as I can. But I like Hannity and Glenn Beck as well.
More snow here this morning. Been a good hard winter for us. We have over 100 inches of base at the local ski resort. We have not seen triple digits for a few years so this helps our water situation. But it's been cold. Our high yesterday was 16. That's colder than a well diggers bottom! I don't know why they figure well diggers bottoms are so cold but thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59749: Everything turned out fine for me! Thank God! The technician told me that if anything had been there, the tissue would not have spread out like it did when they did the mammogram.I told her that usually us ladies don't want things "spreading out" when it comes to our bodies, but in this case I was more than happy to spread out!Ha!

I thank you all VERY MUCH for the good thoughts & prayers for me.God sure heard them and I know HE will hear our prayers for Romeena's son as well.

Tom,this is a special family we have here on our Porch, isn't it? Love you all.

Prayers continue for romeena, tom, hm's family and all the porch!
Tom, you put that so beautifully! God bless you!
I hope Rev is still doing well on his concert tour.
Spot, you are "spot-on!"
I am feeling much better today. It is a bright crisp day here in the Phx area. About 58 with a little breeze...lovely!

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59754:
Hey Folks

Romeena-Even though it's the most powerful thing I can do for ya, somehow saying I'm praying for you doesn't feel like enough. But, I know it is and you can believe I am, prayers friend.

Tom- Real nice sentiment but I think maybe they could be one and the same, "porch of love, hope, and prayer" and the "Mayberry Porch." You're always a light, Tom.

Asa & homemaker- Ditto! You can put me down as a Rush fan. People in the media that are actually proud to be Americans, how disturbing! (wink wink)

Asa-We're under 70 inches of snow so far this year, way off our average.

MDC-I was thinking about Rev and his tour also. Don't ya just know he's out there battling for the Lord? You count on it!

Spot-I'm with Merri W. that grub sounds fine, real fine.

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59755:
Tom- "Nice, real nice."

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59756: Asa and auh2o - I really enjoy Rush's commentary and can't seem to stomach the drive by media much anymore. For those of you who haven't listened to Rush in ages - give him a week. He will either make you mad or you will see that he isn't totally off base. I do listen to Fox news over the others but the Fox tv shows are extremely liberal. Okay - I am off my soap box 'cept that Hillary was in the white house for 8 years (and so was the chef) and Obama does not have the experience needed for the head role of our country.

It is going to be bitterly cold here this weekend. I am not looking forward to that -

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59757:
Hello porch family....Sure have missed you folks the last few days. The concerts are going great. Can't stay but a sec but just wanted to check in quick. I've been on the run but God is surely moving. Got about 2 more weeks here in Florida.

Spot...thanks brother for sending those good ole meals.

My wife said they got a little snow yesterday and calling for a little tomorrow.

Hope to check back in tomorrow. You all have a blessed night and be sure to hug Jesus tonight before you close your eyes to sleep.
Prayers and love for ALL our porch family!

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59758: Yay! Great news, Possum! I didn't have time to post this morning, but you were in my prayers. Couldn't wait to get home to see what happened; and I was so glad to read that news! Thank God.
Thanks for checking in, Rev. Be safe on your travels!
Asa, it was 19 here yesterday. We haven't had snow for 5 or 6 days, and I'm not sure if any more is expected; but, like you, we've had more this year than the last 4 or 5 years, and it's really good for the snow pack. But... I'm already thinking Spring. Almost time to start my seeds indoors.
Nice observation, and nice sweep, Tom.
I hate to brag, but I've got a 3 day week-end! Yay! I'm hoping to get the Christmas Tree down this weekend. No, Ro isn't the only one with the tree still up. I'll get 'er done, I hope. Pending no medical emergencies.
Well, 10-4

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59759: Oh, my goodness, REV. What a mental picture! "Be sure to hug Jesus tonight before you close your eyes to sleep." My brother, I needed that image. Thank you.

Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59760: Yes, Possum, that's such good news! And Hazel, I'm glad I'm in good company, with the tree still up. I'm not making any plans to take mine down this weekend, but probably next week or so. I'm enjoying it, it's bright and cheerful, and it's not hurting anyone, so why can't it just stay there a while longer? Since I can't reach above my head for another week, I have a good excuse to leave it alone. So there! --Romeena

January 18, 2008 - Msg 59761: THE GREATEST TREASURE.

God has given me great treasure-
No part of it in gold,
But it will afford me pleasure
Throug life and when I'm old.
The many beauties of our earth-
Tall mountains, lakes and trees-
Nor gold buy one of these.
The skies of blue and flowers, too-
God's awesome gifts to man;
The gentle breeze, the morning dew-
All works of this great platn.
The air I breath, the food I eat-
Water, my stream of life;
Friends I cherish who can't be beat,
Beside me in good tims and strife.
Sunshine's bright rays annd moonlight's glow-
Such wondrous things to see,
But the greatest wealth I'll ever know
Is God's undying love for me.

January 19, 2008 - Msg 59766: The LA Times is reporting that Allan Melvin passed away on Thursday. What a great actor he was.

January 19, 2008 - Msg 59767: Hodie? Hodie Snitch? Is that you? If you're who I think you are, we haven't seen you since Hector was a pup. And I'm terribly sorry to learn of the passing of Allan Melvin. He was indeed a terrific character actor. Without him, many TV shows wouldn't have been the same. He played what, five? parts on TAGS, he was on Gomer Pyle, he was Sam, Alice's boyfriend on the Brady Bunch, and there were many more, I'm sure. Oh yes, he was Rob's ex-army buddy on the Dick Van Dyke show. Actually, he played Rob's good friend on a flashback episode, then on another ep he was an old friend who showed up but Rob wasn't sure who he was. Who can name some others??

Well, I should sit right here and clean off this mountain of accumulated paper on my desk, but I think I'd rather go catch a nap with Starr. She's in here looking hopeful. She does enjoy her nap!

Oh, I got the following in an email, you all probably did too, but thought I'd run it. Can you read this? I could, no problem. I think that means I have a strange mind, but I wouldn't argue with that.

January 19, 2008 - Msg 59769: Hi friends, just popping in to comment about the passing of Allan Melvin. How sad, we're losing so many of our great character actors. My oldest daughter is really enjoying his "Sam" on the Brady Bunch. Also, today the kids were watching some Saturday morning cartoons and who would appear in an episode of Scooby-doo? DON KNOTTS! He was a deputy like Barney but was DON KNOTTS. My oldest came running down the hall "Mommy, mommy! Barney's on Scooby-Doo!" I just love that!

Still praying for everyone's concerns. Have a MAYBERRY Day! mw

January 19, 2008 - Msg 59771: Oh,I'm sorry to hear of Allan Melvin's passing. He was such a versatile actor, and a good one too. Ro,he was also on "All In The Family"-remember he was Archie's neighbor,Barney? And he was the voice of the cartoon character,Magilla Gorilla. RIP Mr. Allan, and thank you.

Spot, send that snow over here! Seems to be falling in Upstate SC today, but only rain down in my neck of the woods.But.. if the temp drops, who knows? I can dream, can't I? I managed to get out & vote in the SC primary this morning before the rain got heavy.Hope the weather doesn't deter people. Polls were open for over 3 hours when I went, and there had only been 29 voters before me. Not good,so hoping folks will get out there.

Thank y'all again for the prayers & well wishes concerning my health scare. I am so relieved!

Hey to Gomer!
Y'all have a great evening!

January 19, 2008 - Msg 59772:
My condolences also to the Melvin family on the passing of Allan. Of course, now i am also remembering Millie because he played Millie's ex-boyfriend in one ep, when he always called barney as "Ace." Just think, now our Millie and he can actually talk with each other!!
I loved him best as the Army Sargeant in the episode with Ernest T.
I liked it because he, this tough Army officer, also finally had enuf of ETB! haha
What was interesting was that he could play the good guy or the bad guy, and yet, when watching, I never think of him as one of the other characters. When he was the hotel dective, that's who he convinceingly portrayed, for example. God bless him and may he rest in peace!
Yall have a great Sabbath and dont rock forward on anybody's toes. (:

January 19, 2008 - Msg 59773: I think I liked him best in "Jailbreak". Puddintame. Ask me again, and I'll tell you the same!
I think there must have been more than 5 eps he was in, Romeena. Sure seems like it anyway. Let's count 'em.
Andys vacation. (the escaped convict)
Jailbreak. (Robbed the furniture factory payroll with his female partner)
Ernest T Bass joins the Army. (Army Sargeant)
Barneys Uniform. (Threatened Barney that if he ever caught him without his uniform he'd knock his lights out)
Andy and Barney in the Big City. (hotel detective)
Lawman Barney. (Runs a vegetable stand, threatens Barney)
Howards Main Event. (Millies ex-boyfriend)
I think there must have been 1 or 2 more, but I can't think of them right at the minute. You're right, MDC, he was very convincing, whether he was the good guy or the bad guy.
- Hazel

January 19, 2008 - Msg 59774: Just thought of another. Barneys First Car. Worked with "Hubcaps Lesh".
- Haze

January 19, 2008 - Msg 59775: Wow! That's eight eps so far, and it does seem to me there was another one. Now that's versatility. As MDC points out, whoever he was playing, that's who he was. As Andy would say, "That was the actor of the man." He will be missed.

I was watching Paula Deen this afternoon, and she made some macaroni and cheese in a crockpot that looked like a little bit of heaven. I may just have to make that dish myself. She also made a peach/blueberry cobbler in a dutch oven that looked larrupin' as well. Guess I'll try that, too. I'll need some of you all to come over and enjoy it with me, though. It's just not much fun cooking for one. I've been alone now for eleven years, and that part is still hard. I cooked for six or more for so long, it's really hard to scale back and cook small amounts, and some things just don't work well in small batches. Good thing I don't mind eating leftovers. In fact, I like 'em!

Well, be blessed, everyone. --Romeena

January 19, 2008 - Msg 59776: Good Evenin' Friends,

January 20, 2008 - Msg 59780: Morning all. We are due another storm here tonight and tomorrow which is expected to drop another 10 to 12 inches of snow on us. Not sure where we are gonna put it all. I bet Hazel is getting the same storm as it's coming from the north and she's about 5 hours north of me. How about it Hazel. You getting dumped on yet?

I was wondering about your Son also Romeena. Any updates?

Lucy, let me know what you find in your research. I think I have them spasm things. I find I best eat slow and chew things up thoroughly or else things stick going down and feel like my chest is gonna explode. Does that sound familiar? In other words, to heck with you. Am I gonna pull through?! LOL

Glad your spirits are up MDC. Life sure can wear on us at times. I have a elderly neighbor and friend who has been losing weight the last few months for no reason. He just found out he has Hodgkins disease. His outcome isn't promising. It just breaks my heart. He is a kind caring Christian man and has served the Lord all his life. If you could all remember Ron in your prayers. And another neighbor who likewise is very ill and not expected to go o much longer. His name is Ron also. Thanks friends.

January 20, 2008 - Msg 59781: Good morning, all. Couldn't go to preachin' this morning, as I can't drive, and getting dressed is a challenge. Had two offers from friends who would have picked me up, but would have meant about ten miles out of their way, and hated to ask that of anyone. As for getting dressed, baggy sweatshirts are easy, but church-appropriate clothing is a little harder. I imagine the Lord understands.

My son is out of the hospital again, but has to do practically nothing, and is being closely monitored. He's on a tightrope now, to see whether his liver is going to start healing, or whether it fails completely. If it fails, he'll have to go on a transplant waiting list. Dear Lord! Please keep us in your prayers, friends.

It's a beautiful morning. Had a light freeze last night, and my sprinklers ran about 2 a.m., so everything is wearing a coating of ice. The rosemary bush is just gorgeous. It's 37 degrees now, and water is dripping from everything, like falling diamonds in the sunshine. So pretty. The squirrels are running everywhere, all frisky and bushy-tailed, except Bob, whose tail is only about three inches long. I think he had a near-miss with that miserable cat. A lone bluejay is at the feeder, doubtless the mate to the one beheaded by the cat. Yep, no question, I've got to have a talk with my neighbor. She says she can't keep him in. I think I could. Just pick up the cat, open the door and step out, toss the cat back in and shut the door. Or close the door to whatever room the cat is in before leaving the house. How hard is that? Miserable bird-murderer.

Asa, you described an esophageal spasm perfectly. I have them too, the result of some radiation damage back in 1979. You do indeed think you're having a heart attack, until you get familiar with the experience. Drink something warm when you have a spasm, it helps.

Well, guess I'll go rustle up something to eat. Starr says howdy! --Romeena

January 20, 2008 - Msg 59782: RIP Suzanne Pleshette

January 20, 2008 - Msg 59783: Suzanne Pleshette died? I hadn't heard that. I loved her in the Bob Newhart show.
Yes, Asa, we got dumped on too. Mr. Hazel went out a couple hours ago and started shoveling snow, so I had to go yell at him. Sheesh. He just had a heart attack 2 weeks ago, for Petes sake. Men!
Continued prayers for your son, Ro. And for everyone.

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59787: The hosting company that hosts TAGSRWC.com and Mayberry.com moved our data from one server to another over the weekend. That caused, it would appear, some of the data to be lost as well as BROKE other scripts that are running on the site. It will take me some time to get everything fixed and the lost messages are...well...lost and won't be back.

Sorry...hopefully the changes are over and I can try and get things working again.

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59790: Thanks for the update, FLOYD. Your heart was formed in a bowl. Maybe that server company should try biger wires, I don't know. I've never been good with anything electronal.

Did you get the last clue, BOO?

It's much warmer here today; a downright tropical 22 degrees. I may break out the swimsuit.

I'll stop back later. Continued prayers for all.

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59791: Thanks Floyd, sorry you are having to deal with the mess.

Well, Me-They, thankfully, all was not lost before I got your last clue. Your name has to be DUANE....as in Duane Allman. Am I right??

Got to get Erin off to school.

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59792: AUH2O: Do you have a Democratic debate hangover this morning? I had a headache last night after work and pretty much went to bed.

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59793: Drat! You guessed it, BOO. I had a couple more good clues to dangle, too. I should have known you'd get that one.

Here's your homemade pickle...

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59794: I was so confused last night! Glad to see you all again. Thanks Floyd for all your help!

M-T, I had a whopper of a headache last night too. I went to bed but woke up in time to watch "Life After People" on the History channel. Very interesting. But then I'm kind of a nerd.

We were on the receiving end of ice last night. I should have known it was bad when the dog slid out the back door right off the deck into the yard. Poor girl! School was called off this morning. Ah, the joy of a snow/ice day! The freedom everyone experiences for a short time--I love it. I made everyone omelettes and the girls are lounging in their jammies. Maybe we'll make oatmeal raisin cookies today. Maybe we'll get the play-dough out. Maybe we'll read stories and watch a movie...the choices are endless!

Well dear friends, so glad we're back together again. Have a great day! MW

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59795: That show was one last night, MERRI?!? I have been waiting to see that. I hope they repeat it. I heard the author of the book it is based on on Daine Rehm last year. I thought it was fascinating. Was it very good?

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59796: M-T, I did a search for you and the program comes back on Wednesday night at 7 & 11. But that's central time. You're eastern, right? So, 8 $ midnight for you. I enjoyed it. Check it out and let me know what you think. mw

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59797: Well, sorry I guessed it before you could give your last clues, Me-They. Thanks for the pickle.

Hey, MW, sounds like a fun day. I am trying to catch up on the chores I didn't do this weekend!...not fun, but mandatory. I made myself an omelet this morning, too (which is something I never do). I used those egg-beaters with no cholesterol, and then put cheese on it to add cholesterol!

Think I'll take a break and let my food settle.

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59798: Thanks, MERRI!

BOO: But do you know my MIDDLE name?

Speaking of omelets, my aunt was up visiting this weekend and introduced a neat way to make omelets for everyone made or order without making a big mess. She put a whole bunch of fixings out (cheese, ham, veggies, etc.) and gave each person a ziploc bag and two raw eggs. Then, each person cracked their eggs into the bags and added whatever they eanted in their omelet. Finally, she boiled the sealed bags together for (I think) 10 minutes. They were done, but moist and quite good.

Working today, not as cold outside upper 30's I think. kinda slushy outside as we had some snow and ice this morning. It is supposed to turn to rain as the temps warm up though.

Thanks to Floyd for keeping the porch up and running. Glad you are under there holding up the boards. watch out for the spiders though!

Tomorrow is my husbands 49th birthday! I think I will bake a cake for him. He likes German Chocolate!

Dinner tonight will be: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, baked acorn squash, green beans and SLAW. Cake for dessert. tea to drink!

Here's what's happening. The hosting company has moved us to a new server and in the process they have changes the "IP" address of the machine. It will take about 48 hours for the new IP address to be sent all around the internet so that when you try to get to tagsrwc.com you are sent to the right server.

That's why sometimes you can get here and other times you can't. It all depends on where your computer goes to ask for the IP address of tagsrwc.com. Some places that are asked still have the old IP address while others have already picked up the new one.

I know that's more than you wanted to know but the short answer is...everything will be okay by Thursday.

January 22, 2008 - Msg 59808:
Hello porch family....I pray you all are doing good. I'm still in Florida. Concerts are still going great.
Been real busy so I haven't been able to check in the past few days but be assured you guys have been in my prayers.

Welcome SpOOky. Good to have you. Come on back soon.

Happy Birthday to your hubby Big Maude. And thanks for supper.

Thanks Floyd for getting us fixed up again.

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59810: Phew! I thought I was in the Twilight Zone for the last couple days! "I ain't in, and I ain't out... I'm in the Twilight Zone!" (Otis)
It's 9 degrees on my porch today. I'm ready for spring.
- Hazel

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59811: Wow, 9 degrees, Hazel?! That IS cold. It's about 4o and windy here, which is cold to us Texans. Guess 40 would feel pretty good to you, though.

Good to get a "Night-Night" from REV. Glad the concerts are going well.

I noticed that they announced the nominations for oscars yesterday and I didn't even see one of the movies nominated. I had only even heard of one of them (Juno). Did anyone see "There Will Be Blood", with Daniel Day-Lewis? Looked interesting but ususally don't watch R-rated films. Hal Holbrook was nominated for some movie called "Into the Wild" and I did a search for that one and watched the trailor. It looked very good, and family appropriate. Any of you seen it? It is based on a true story.

Lots of laundry to do today, so send over your shorts Me-They....I'll go easy on the starch, Little Bro.

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59812: Good morning everyone. Somebody better get under there will them spiders and fix this porch.

BOO: I was just joking about the middle name (by the way, it starts with a "K"-hehehe).

I've heard a lot of discussion about the Oscar nominees. Even the reviewers agree that there is a disconnect between the Academy voters and actual movie-goers. Not that those nominated might not be good, just that there's a big difference between movies made to be watched by the public and movies made to be watched by the film community elite. By the way, "Into the Wild" has a tragic ending and a dubious point of view (it was produced by Sean Penn, after all). It may not be as "family-friendly" as you imagine. Check out Pluggedin.com.

INCOMING! Here's my shorts...

SPOT: I have to spring for breakfast and I ain't even hungry!? Wow. You people are hardcore.

Well, I'll be back later, if teh floor board don't do POWIE!

"Sin...that's one subject you can't talk enough about."

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59813: M-T its your turn I think!:)....gona be about 40ish here today rain tomorrow...well back to work...SPOT

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59814: Hi All.nice day.
Spot keep the rain there and I will send snow and the back back to you. hehe
Thank Floyd for fixing the porch.
Happy Birthday Mr Big Maude.
Welcome back SpOOky just for dropp by.

Those who believe you must be "kin"to care,
Are really missing a lot.
For we are all related in this world,
Whether we like it or not.
In life, there are two choices;
To be as caring as we can-
Or we can ignore the world outside,
Turning or back on man.
Whatever we decide for ourslves
Is strictly our decision to make.
But sooner or later, we all learn
It is better to give than to take.

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59815: Excellant poem, TOM. It goes right along with some of the thoughts I have been having this morning...just doing some meditating on the rampant materialism we see these days. Thanks for sharing.

Oh no, Me-They...not again...ok, I'll go for it one more time. Is your middle name Kenneth? Thanks, BTW, for the warning about Into The Wild..I don't like tragic endings and I think I'll skip this one.

Better go put the groceries away and keep washing...(yipee)...very thankful today, though, that I am well and able to work.

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59816: Well as I live & breathe! Sp00ky AND Hodie right here back on the porch! Where ya'll been hiding? Don't stay gone so long, I have often wondered what happened to you both. Floyd yer a treashuh for dealing with all the "electronal" porch stuff to keep us all connected. Hope everyone else is doing fine this cold morning, Spot & Rev I'm going with the Pats since my Skins aren't in there, never cared for the Giants.
Ro I'm right there with you about cats running the neighborhood, we have LOTS of them here. I'm like Ray I love cats, I really do, but to watch these poor doves looking for their mates that some cat ate is just sad. Wish folks would just keep them in where they belong, they not only kill my birds at the feeders (they act like it's some kind of all-you-can-eat buffet out there) they spray everything from our cars, to the side of the house. My carport smells like a cat box & we don't even have a cat. And don't get me started on the dratted fleas they carry. Enough of that...
Could you all add my little neice, Alyssya, to your prayer lists? She will be 3 in April & she has Cystic Fibrosis, bless her little heart. She has to go to UT next month for what they call a "tune up" to clear out her lungs & rounds of aggressive antibiotics. Something they have to do at least twice a year. She's a tough little cookie, but I hate to see her dealing with this.
Thanks friends.
Best get off here & at least ACT like I'm doing something today.

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59817: Didn't mean to rock on yer toe Boo glad you had a fun get away, can you still wash Me-They's shorts with a sore toe? I hope so, else he'll be throwing them my way. teehee

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59818: Gonna have a balmy high of 7 here today. 8 tomorrow. Better break out the sunscreen and the bermuda shorts.

Thanks Floyd for keeping us in the loop. I was having trouble getting on here yesterday, and it is good to know why.

-Sterling Holobyte

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59819: I'll be rooting for the Pats right along with you, Mavis. Since those dastardly Giants put an end to my Packers super bowl hopes. I was really thinking that Brett Farve wanted to go to the super bowl because he is planning on retiring(again) and wanted to go out on top. Would've been nice. Thanks alot Giants! ;)

-Sterling Holobyte

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59820: Yippee! Good morning, everyone. Looks like things are back to normal, thanks to Floyd. I'm going to send him a case of spider-repellent.

Sp00ky, it's good to see you, old friend. You have been missed. Sure hope you'll stay around now that you found your way back home. And speaking of runaways, where on earth is Poor Horatio? He hasn't been around in weeks.

Oh, my goodness, Big Maude. German chocolate cake?? You have just named my favorite cake in all the world. I like to make it in two layers, then split the two, so there are four thin layers. Then I make a double recipe of the filling/frosting, and when I get through with the thing it's about eight inches high, and bears a strong resemblance to candy! Yum! I like to have a glass of cold buttermilk with it. (Try not to gag, y'all.)

My son is stable, feels pretty good, but his liver is still in a very precarious condition, can go either way, the doctor said. He is pretty much just resting and eating right, and having frequent blood draws to monitor his progress.

It's 35 degrees here, but the birds are skating on the birdbath, so know it got colder last night.

Mavis, are the cats in your neighborhood feral, or are they somebody's well-fed pets, out to indulge their killer instinct? The two that prowl around here are both pets. I know Shamu, he lives next door. I don't know the big American shorthair, but he's wearing a red collar. Both have bellies that swing and sway when they walk, so they're not hungry. If people want to let their pets roam, then declaw their front feet. Leave the back claws and they can still defend themselves, but they can't climb and they can't catch much. At least my baby squirrels would be safe in their nestboxes. I chased Red Collar off a tree (threw rocks at him,) he was within three feet of a nest box that held about five baby squirrels! Once again, I don't blame the cats, they're just doing what cats do. I blame the irresponsible owners.

The city of Dallas is considering a program to round up and trap the feral cats and dogs in some problem neighborhoods. They'll take them in, spay and neuter them, and release them where they were picked up. If they can't reproduce, natural attrition will solve the problem eventually, and the city won't have to resort to killing them. Too much of that goes on as it is. I hope they do it.

Well, gotta try to get a few things done around here. Starr says howdy! --Romeena

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59821: Morning Porch Family:
Just stopping by to say a quick Hi, and thanks Floyd for the fixer-upper. Now that you have that straightened out, mind stopping by here and fixing a few things around the house?
It's been cold here, but we missed out on last nights supposed dumping of snow. Wonder where that went? Gotta go, the ski resort is calling me. ~New Neighbor

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59822: FinallY! Back on.

Welcome back to SPOOKY, and I second HORATIO's APB. If I were half a boy, where would I go?

BOO: I was really just kidding and won't keep you in suspense--it's Puddingtame. No, really, it's Kevin.

So sad about Heath Ledger. I heard one "Christian" conjecture that maybe this was God's punishment for his promoting the happy lifestyle in "Brokeback Mountain." That kind of stuff really makes me angry, for the stupidity of the comment as well as the damage such comments do to furthering the Kingdon here on earth.

Prayers continue for your son, ROMEENA, and all your other porchsters. Prayers also for all those who haven't checked in for awhile.

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59823: ROMEENA: We live arond several farms, and have had a feral cat problem in recent years. One of my neighbors constantly feed them, so they are often of the farms. Anyway, a neighbor who loves cats and couldn't bear to catch and turn them in decided to catch them and have them fixed. He ended up catching 17 cats in two weeks! It cost him almost $1,000. Anyway, since he did that last summer, the number of them has decreased quite a bit, and I only regularly see two or three.

I love animals, too, but if it had been me, it would have been phffft.

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59824: Try "constantly feeds them, so they are often off the farms." Yeesh.

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59825:
Did Floyd prop up all the porch planks!?
Thanks Floyd.
Back later.

January 23, 2008 - Msg 59826: Hey gang...just cruising by to say goodnight. Hope all is well with each and everyone of you! mw

January 24, 2008 - Msg 59829: Hi to everyone. I couldn't seem to get onto the porch most of the day yesterday. Guess the problem is solved.

Feeling a bit under the weather today. Achy and sniffly but wanted to stop by and say "Hey".

January 24, 2008 - Msg 59830: Hi All.
Boo was you out running arould looking for that U F O ?
Maybe that why the porch was not working right fir the pass week. hehe

January 24, 2008 - Msg 59831: Ha ha! Good thinking, Tom.

Everybody put on their tinfoil hats.;)

-Sterling Holobyte

January 24, 2008 - Msg 59832: Asa took my tinfoil for his collection. I think he was afraid of me saving the meatballs. . .

January 24, 2008 - Msg 59833: Morning Family:
Just took a day off for ME!! Finishing taking Christmas odds and ends down, and relaxing. Haven't done this in a long time, sure do feel guilty... wonder what causes that?
Sterling- is the shiny side out or in? I keep forgetting.
U.F.O.- is that "Unfortunate Feline Ordeal" when it comes to Ro's birds? teehee
Well best be getting back to what I was doing...what was I doing anyway? Thanks for breakfast Spot, you always do fix a good spread. ~New Neighbor

January 24, 2008 - Msg 59834: Getting on the porch has been harder than walking a chalk line after drinking from the crock at the jail.

Sorry your feeling poorly, BOO. Try one'a them little blue pills. Knowing you, though, you've probably already ribbed Vicks all over ;).

Where's AUH2O? I hope he's not too upset about the Obama-Clinton cat fights.

Sorry, guys, I only take my special tin foil hat out of its protective casing during full moons. But I will put my Mr. Spock ears on if that'll help.

January 24, 2008 - Msg 59835: Boy it going to be one of no days . The U F O
maybe HM meatball flying arould hehe
Haredhat will be good for them.
Will this porch is sometime and sometime I wish it would stop befor we all go crazy.hehe

January 24, 2008 - Msg 59837: You guessed it TOM, it WAS me..maybe that's why I don't feel so well today! I see what you're talking about TOM, but I already did M-T's shorts yesterday. ha

Thanks for the senitment, M-T. I am feeling some better this afternoon (after a dose of Advil). Funny comment about the tin foil hat! You people are so clever....could I borrow your Spock ears when you're through with them?

I saw something funny yesterday that made me think of you all and our recent discussion of those prescrition drug commercials that are so silly. I saw on for a drug that's supposed to treat "Restless Leg Syndrome" and at the end the announcer said, "Please call your doctor is you experience gambling, s*xual or other increased urges"!....I guess now they have a sin pill now.

January 24, 2008 - Msg 59838: Well, like I reminded you yesterday, that is one subject that you can't talk enough about--sin.

TOM: If the UFO has flashing lights and a strobe effect, they just may be my shorts.

That group speaking out about Heath Ledger's death that I mentioned turns out to be the Westboro Baptist crazies. Well, I guess what do you expect from a bunch of lunatics?

January 24, 2008 - Msg 59839: Hi y'all! Man,things have been weird here on the Porch lately-if Floyd hadn't told us what was going on,I'd have thought maybe Count Istvan Telecky had been prowling around the place.Or,it could be those UFOs Tom mentioned! Flying meatballs and Me-They's shorts! Ha! Tom,you are TOO funny! By the way, Sp00ky Benson never showed up on my end of the porch-curious,curious!

Me-They,I heard Dan Abram's last night talking about the group speaking out against Heath Ledger-he wouldn't lend credence to them by divulging the group's name, but I knew it had to be those sickos. They plan to rally at Heath's funeral, did you know that? What a sad, pathetic bunch of so-called Christians.Wait till God gets ahold of 'em is all I can say.

Boo,hope you're feeling better.I think this flip-flopping weather (hot one day, cold the next) gets our systems all out of whack.

Is TvLand going for a world record by showing the same movie over and over in one month? If it's not "Fletch",it is "Fletch Lives." Followed everytime by Gunsmoke. I am going to fire off a letter to whoever is in charge of the programming over there-enough is enough! Good grief!

Ok,I'm scooting down off of the soapbox now-just had to vent!

Hope everyone's well.Prayers still going out for all who've requested them.Love to all.
