March 20, 2008 - Msg 61222: Would somebody "bump" homemaker. She's stuck. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome back everyone. Y'all are sweet as can be.
How was everyone's first day of Spring? We started out with some rain, then some snow and then are ending with clear and sunny and temps not to bad. Supposed to be near 60 by Easter. Yippee!
Anyone wanna go see the new streetlight they installed at Elm and Main? I hear this one turns on by itself at dark. What will they think of next?

March 20, 2008 - Msg 61223: Guess I'll go ahead and sweep up. Ain't done that in a while so's I hope I do ok.

March 20, 2008 - Msg 61224: Thanks for getting the dust bunnies from under my bed. . .
and thanks for the bump.

Guess I had a deep scratch in my record!

March 20, 2008 - Msg 61225: Yes, Asa, I've heard about those lights that go on by themselves. Our town doesn't have them yet (we're late in getting federal aid).
Hey everybody, I just read on another site I post at that you can sign a petiton at TV Land if you want to let them know that you don't like the current line-up. If you want to do it, it's TVLand dot com. You do have to register. After you register, go to the message boards. There's a section about Boardroom operations. Then a thread about Programing schedules. The petition is in that. Do it!
- Hazel

Barney: "I wasn't the hundreth name on that petition! I was the very first one!"

March 20, 2008 - Msg 61226:
Hello porch family...The rain is out of here for a few days in my neck of the porch.

Well hey there ASA.....Good to see ya back in your rocker.

Boo...praying that you're feeling better.

Hazel....I sure don't like what TVLand has turned into. I need to sign that petition. Thanks for the info.

Well better get ready for bed. You all have a blessed night and be sure to tell Jesus how much you love Him before you fall to sleep.
Praying for all the porch family!

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61227: Hazel, thanks for the tip. I did what you suggested, and my vote is now #115 (I think) on the petition. I used to watch TVLand all the time, and here lately, I visit only at certain times, when I know something good will be on. Too bad.

I went with Eloise and her daughter (my DIL) tonight to see a production of "Riverdance" and it was just fabulous. If I had to describe it in one word, it would be "energy". I have never seen such energetic, talented, and disciplined young people in all my life. The show was over two hours long, and I was mesmerized the whole time. I highly recommend it.

Well, I'm pooped. Guess I'm not as energetic as those young'uns on that stage. I'm going to bed! Be blessed, all. --Romeena

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61228: Morning Dears. I so seldom watch TV Land anymore. Between the garbage they are putting on, combined with the slashing they are doing to the few good shows they air, to fit more commercials in, it's just pure disgusting. I tried watching some of the TAGS mini-marathon they showed last weekend and became so dismayed at all the stuff they had removed to stick in more commercials, I finally turned off the Dish and plugged in my DVD's. So much nicer seeing the complete episodes without all the commercials. TV Land seems to be having an identity crisis.
Well it's Good Friday today. They say the earliest Easter we have ever seen in our generation or will see in our generation, I think that's what I heard. I sure hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend and take a moment to fully appreciate all it means. There is something very special about this time of year as we see the renewal of life as vegetation comes out of being dormant and comes back to life. Ain't it grand when we equate what it all implies?
Spot, hope you are all getting things restored down there. Has things calmed down?
How's Laci doing Possum? I bet she's growing like a weed.
Hope you dry out Homemaker. Sounds like it's been quite wet there. I think AFD is in that area also.
Hazel, how's yer garden doing? You got anything planted yet? I think we have finally dried out enough that I can start prepping my soil, although I still have some snow on the north side of things lingering around.
Romeena, is your pacemaker doing you good now? Sure do hope so. I was reading the archives and went to the link for the Cactu Cuties you gave. My goodness, what a rendition they do. Very very impressive. Thanks for the link.
Hey Rev, you doing any Easter concerts this weekend?
Boo, you feeling any better? My wife has sure been sick with every little bug thats come along this year. Been a rough winter in that regard.
Well I'm buying lunch at the Diner today. The special is 2 chicken wings, from chickens that have done a lot of flying. So if yer watching the calories, this is a lunch for you.:)

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61229: Good morning everyone. You sure are right, ASA, it is a special time of year. The lovely (if windy) weather we've had the last few days has really put me in a "spring attitude." Prayers for all, especially those with less than spectacular weather.

I don't have much to add to your TV Land discussion other than I agree completely. Between the bad choice of shows, totally inappropriate comercials they play even before 8:00 p.m., and the fact that they keep changing the schedule around with seemingly no rhyme or reasson, I can't watch. It used to be if the kids were watching TAGS on TV Land I could relax a little. No more; now I have to keep the remote close in case I need to mute it or change the channel. So, zap, it's blocked.

ROMEENA: It is a marvel how they keep the top half so still while the bottom half is moving like that. "I wonder what causes that?"

ASA: I'll leave the tip. I'm telling you now so we both don't leave a quarter.

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61230: HM: I think ASA told you to dry up.

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61231: APB for AFD, TOM, GOOBER, CHARLOTTE, IDELLE, OPIEMOM, and a bunch more friends.

M-T (again and for the last time this morning, at least)

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61232: OK, I've read the recent posts, had my laugh for this morning, and now I've got to get busy. Just have to say, though, that I agree completely about TVLand's idiotic programming plans, and am watching them less and less. I also went to the site that Hazel mentioned, and signed the petition. I doubt it will do any good, but it can't hurt to try.

Why, with all I have to do this morning, did my CO detector have to start chirping? Now I have to climb up there and change that dratted battery. Actually, I don't know why it's installed up high anyway, since CO is a heavier gas and would accumulate near the floor. Hmmm. I'll have to think about that. Anyway, I can't stand the chirping, so guess I'll get 'er done. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61233: Good morning. I am doing better. The cough is worse and now I am stuffy but not so achy like before. I went out last evening to church and then out to dinner and I felt pretty good until the Advil wore off, then I had to go right to bed. I feel very tired but I think I should be much better today. I have gotten so far behind in the chores I don't know where to start. There is nothing to eat around her except milk, bread and cereal and no more clean towels. We are officially out of toilet paper now, so I am going to have to get to the store soon. Possum, wanna come help me with the laundry?

Well, I have not been to the TVLand site yet but I plan to sign the petition. I have had it with that channel. That stupid High School Reunion was the final nail in the coffin of TVLand for me. Too bad.

Hey ASA, everything is turning bright green around here due to some rain on Tuesday. Wildflowers popping up everywhere and I have been thinking like you have about the meaning of new life. Yesterday I saw something I had never seen before. I saw a yard filled with pure white buttercups. Even the centers were white. Beautiful!

Wish I could just go back to bed for the day but things have to get done and Bruce isn't here today. Be back later...

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61234: Wish I could change your battery, ROMEENA, and help you with chores and errands, BOO. It'd be my pleasure, really. But I suppose you'll have to settle for my good wishes.

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61235: Well folks, I thought I'd pop my head in here and let you know I hadn't floated away. We were doused pretty good, and at one point could only go north to get to town. Two lanes of the four lane highway just a mile south of my house, as well as many of the county roads getting to it, have been covered since Monday. It's a good thing we are on spring break this week or we would have missed a few more days of school (we've already missed ten so far). Evie has to go to school 3 Saturdays just so we can keep the school year from running into June.

You can see the reason Goober hasn't been around on the porch right here...

Well, best get back to my girls. Prayers for all!

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61236: Thanks for updating uis on GOOBER, AFD. Glad you are doing okay.

I know that I've asked this at least two or three times before, but can someone provide me with REV's website? Thanks. (In my defense, I work from a work computer that is set to clean it's caches every month, which means I lose my history and links. Unless I visit a site often or know some key words to search by, I don't know where to go. Of course, I guess I could write it down, but those of you who know me can imagine how I feel about keeping scraps of paper laying around on my desk ;)

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61237: Hey M-T! Hope all is well with you and the family. Rev's website is

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61239: Hey all--I have not been on the porch for a while --Here is the latest with me. I have lost nearly 35lbs since November, I brought down my blood sugar by 100 points-and I have been having all kinds of fun playing around with the recipes in my "Aunt Bea Mayberry cook book" Making them more Low fat and low sodim. You would be suprised-of course some of them I have to avoid all together--deep fried things and stuff. But by using non stick spray, olive oil insted of lard and ramping up the veggie content -I can still eat "Mayberry" and stay healthy too.
I made the "Hoot owl pie" last night with low fat sour cream and whole grain tortillas-and a mixture of frozen orinetal vetties. I also added some broccili to the Chow mein recipe. I can't wait for summer so I can mess around with the ice cream!!!

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61243: does anyone know the real guitar player they used for the soundtrack for "jim lindsay?"

March 21, 2008 - Msg 61244: I got this in an email today & it was so cute I wanted to share. ;)

An eye witness account from New York City , on a cold day in December, some years ago: A little boy, about 10-years-old, was standing before a
shoe store on the roadway, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.
A lady approached the young boy and said, 'My, but you're in such deep thought staring in that window!'
'I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,'was the boy's reply.
The lady took him by the hand, went into the store, and asked the clerk to get half a dozen pairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her.
She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel.
By this time, the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the boy's feet, she purchased him a pair of shoes.
She tied up the remaining pairs of socks and gave them to him.. She patted him on the head and said, 'No doubt, you will be more comfortable now.'
As she turned to go, the astonished kid caught her by the hand, and looking up into her face, with tears in his eyes, asked her.

'Are you God's wife?'

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61247:
Hello porch family....Can't stay long. Just wanted to check in real quick. never schedule concerts Easter weekend. I just like to be home with my family.

Welcome back ahappynut and so glad you are doing well.

Welcome WWoodson....come on back anytime and grab a rocking chair.

You all have a blessed weekend and know that I'm praying for you all!
Our Jesus is ALIVE!

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61248: Thanks REV. I appreciate the prayers.

Been feeling lousy all day and can't sleep right now. I keep waking up with that annoying "tickle" in my throat that makes me cough. I'm telling you, this is about the worse cold I have had in years, just miserable and for some crazy reason, my tongue is really sore?! Oh well, I'll be better soon.

Glad you are doing so well, Happy Nut. I'm proud of you for taking such good care of yourself.

Thanks Possum, I managed to wash a couple of loads yesterday and that's all I could do. We now have clean underwear and towels so we are good to go.

Guess I will try to go back to sleep for awhile.

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61249: Well Boo, at least if someone in your family has an accident and ends up at the hospital, you won't be ashamed.:)
Mavis, did we miss your Birthday? Happy Birthday if we did. You're 29 this year, right?
Rev, good for you. I'm sure your family appreciates your staying home for Easter.
Hey you guy's, it's still early. Let's sneak over to Romeena's while she's still asleep and tuck her covers under her bed legs and then ring her doorbell. Come on, it'll be fun.

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61250: OK ASA, let's go!....

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61251: Happy Resurrection Weekend! I've been reading a bit, but not posting. This is the time of year I investigate new curriculum for our homeschool and purchase it so I've been busy. Plus my oldest 3 had a band festival to attend on Thursday so that meant extra band rehearsals. I had a migraine yesterday and whew! That wiped me out. I feel somewhat better this am although my head feels like it wants to hurt KWIM?

Have a great day. I've got a turkey to cook and finish up the Easter baskets. I was naughty and ate some of the candy :-( Am I a bad mom or what? VBG

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61252: You're a great mom, Opiemom. Your post reminded me of the TAGS episode when the band wants to go out of town and the mayor won't let them, and Barney kept crashing those cymbals! Poor Andy.

I decided not to do easter baskets this year. It seemed like the kids didn't really care about it last year. I decided just to fill a bunch of plastic eggs and we will have an egg hunt on Sunday. I've just been too sick to do much else but I think I am feeling better today. I am going to take it easy, though. I think my sister and I decided to do Mexican food tomorrow. She is making enchiladas and I will make the beans and I am baking a cake.

Better go, I need a break already.

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61253: You are a great mom, Opiemom. I admit I don't understand the code words. KWIM? VBG? Are those abbreviations? I remember my sister used to say a funny thing when I'd use abbreviations. She'd say "Stop those abbrev's!" Get it? She'd abbreviate the word abbreviation. Made me laugh anyway...
Possum, I'm sorry that I also forgot to mention something about your step-fathers passing. I had meant to say something earlier, then clean forgot when I actually had the time to post. I'm sorry.
I signed the petition at TV Land too. Like Ro said, it probably won't do any good, but we can try. I checked the listings for what's on today, and it's several reruns of High School Reunion. The movie Beetlejuice. And also Three Men and a Baby. Who cares about those movies? It's not that I don't think they might be good movies, but you can find them on other channels. TV Land should be for the old classic TV shows.
Well, 10-4
- Hazel

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61254: Way to go Ahappynut! That's great.

Glad you're feeling better, Boo. I don't think I'll do Easter baskets either. I'm thinking of getting the girls some outdoor toys since Spring is here and there'll be more outside time.

Good to see you back, Asa. How are the little granddaughters doing?

Belated birthday wishes to you, Mavis, and my thoughts and prayers at your loss, possum.

Hazel - KWIM means "know what I mean" and VBG means "very big grin". : )

Hope everyone has a wonderful Easter if I don't get a chance to pop back in tomorrow. Blessings and prayers, ya'll.

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61255: Hey Boo--ever tried Echanacha? Boy I hope I spelled that right--There's no "i before e " in that one.
any way it's a wellness tea that is good for fighting cold and that sort of thing--I drink a cup when ever I feel a sniffle coming on and it kicks it out right away.
Happy birthday Mavis!!!
Happy EASTER everyone!!

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61256: Hey Hazel--you're right-bad movies. This is why I have a DvD player-all I have to do is make the popcorn!!!
and I can have"I love Lucy" or "Andy" any time of the day or night.
I love to watch an Aunt Bee episode while I am prepareing dinner.

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61257: We don't have cable and with what's happening to TVLand I am not motivated to get it.

We watch all our Andy on DVD.

March 22, 2008 - Msg 61258:

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61260: ASA!!! Glad to see you back. I couldn't agree with you more on the TVLand rant. Let's play a round of golf.

Blessings to every rocker on the porch (and to those who are seated thereon).

Happy Easter! He is ALIVE!!

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61261: I know what you mean, MDC. Last night as I was in bed reading, my little Erin came and got on the bed to talk to me a little and she started telling me the real meaning of Easter. When she got to the part about Christ coming out of the tomb, suddenly I felt overwhelmed with joy and thankfulness. I couldn't help but cry. To think, because of what Christ did, I can rejoice in great hope! May you all have a wonderful Easter Sunday.

Sorry you have to work today Spot. Sounds like you got the food covered for the day though.
Hey Chuck, good to see you again, and congrats on becoming a Grandpa. Ain't it great? I'm up for a round of golf. How's about tomorrow morning... early. I love those early morning rounds of golf.
Boo, I think your sitting to close to the screen. I think I caught yer cold, thank you very much!
Hope things dry out for you soon AFD. That sounds horrible what you are all dealing with there.
Did anyone ever let Romeena out from under the covers yesterday? I didn't see her or Starr. Lands sake, someone better slip them some food at least.
Well it doesn't look like we will be going to Preachin today. I hate going when I'm sick. I don't want to share with others. I hate to miss Easter services. But I reckon He knows my heart and my love and appreciation for his great sacrifice for mankind.
Have a wonderful Easter my friends.

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61264: Sorry you're ailin' ASA. I can certainly sympathize. I'll be sitting at home this morning, too. I should be sleeping but all this lying around has made my sciatic pain flare up! I feel like an old f#rt with all these aches and pains. Could somebody pass me some of Emma's pills, please....wait, someone's at the door....I hope it's not more soup.

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61265: Mornin' Y'all and Happy Easter!

Asa,& Boo,sorry y'all are ailin'-feel better real soon.Boo,I empathize with you about the sciatica.Mine is wanting to flare up,I feel it at times, but I'm hoping it doesn't get me.I usually do good for about 6 months, then WHAM!I figure it "owes" me another good month before it latches on!

Hazel- thank you for thinking of me,friend. I've actually lost 3 people over the last 2 weeks, just haven't said anything other than about my stepfather. It hasn't been easy ,but I'm okay.

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61267: Good morning, all. Yes, I know it's Easter, and I should be in church, but my Fredeericksburg kids just left a little while ago, and I would have really had to rush around to make it on time, and rushing is not something I do well these days. Slow and measured, with frequent rests, or I don't make it. This has to change. Prayers, please.

I'm working my way through the porch since I was last here, so some of this will seem belated.

Me-They, I often have trouble keeping up with things I want to remember, like addresses and such, and little scraps of paper aren't welcome on my desk either, though not for the same reason as yours. On mine, they'd just get buried under stacks of big papers. Anyway, when I want to keep a "scrappy" note, I just type it into my desktop notepad, and it's there until I choose to delete it, which could be never. It works.

Wwoodson, you don't have to do anything to "join". Just choose a Mayberry-ish name for yourself, and come on by anytime. You might want to read several of the recent archives to get a feel for what the porch is like. Some folks drop in and expect it to be just an exchange of Mayberry quotes or endless discussions of shows, and are upset when they find it's more than that. However, after reading, if you feel like you'd be happy here, you'd be most welcome.

Good grief, possum! Who else passed? Losing your stepdad was bad enough. Tell us about it, don't hold it in. There are a lot of dry shoulders around here - use them!

ahappynut, it's good to have you back. I hope you're planning to stay and not be such a stranger.

My brave little spirea shrubs, that my yardman's blockheaded helper "trimmed" for me, are trying to bloom. There were a few buds deep inside the bushes that he didn't get with his wicked clippers, but those bushes should look like giant snowdrifts by now. Instead, there are only those few little terrified blooms that managed to escape, and dozens of stubs where long, gently curving canes were cut off. Those canes would have been long ribbons of white in a few more days. Once again, grrrr!

New grandson is wonderful, yesterday was a great day, and I'll share more later. This grows too long, and I grow too tired. Be blessed, all! --Romeena

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61268: Yes, there are a lot of deer around Fredeericksburg. (heehee) --Romeena

Blessings to you and yours,
"He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.
Come and see the place where he lay."

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61270: Hold on, my child. Joy comes in the morning. And it did! --Romeena

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61271: Well, just crawled out of bed again and it's 12:30...decided to have coffee and see how I feel. So far, not great. I was hoping I would be able to eat dinner with the family but I don't want to make my parents sick. Just waiting for Bruce and the kids to get home from church and tell me what I missed. I am rejoicing here at home and I just got some happy news about a dear friend, she is expecting. She has two active boys so I am hoping it's a girl this time. I have another friend who is due any day now (you all remember my pastor who had the biopsy that you prayed for a couple of weeks ago, it's his wife). He is doing very well, by the way. Thank you for your prayers for him.

Hope you get your strength back, Ro. I don't see how you could go back to work that way.

Time for a rest..

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61272: Ro, first I had a friend pass from a heart attack. I found out when I went to his MySpace page a few days after and people were leaving condolences-quite a shock.Another friend DID contact me about it as well, but take it from me,you don't want to find out by happening onto it like I did! He was only 52 & had moved to Nashville a year or so ago hoping to make it big in music. He was actually discovered way back by the same man who made Bruce Springsteen & Bob Dylan famous( John Hammond),but back then he didn't want his music commercialized,so he stuck to playing nightclubs, etc. Finally,he decided to head to Nashville. In time,he would have been a household name-he was that good.Beautiful voice, and boy, could he play an acoustic guitar. I know he is performing on the grandest stage of all now.Next,my stepdad died from a heart attack as well. A few days after that,my sister's best friend(she was dear to all my family) since 1st grade died at 42 from congestive heart failure. It's been a time, but we're all hanging in there. Thanks for giving me a "shoulder to lean on." Means a lot.

On a happier note, boy, did Laci enjoy her Easter egg hunt! I had her by the hand and when she'd spot an egg, she'd let out a squeal of pure delight and take off towards it! She had the best time!

Boo,you and Ro sound like you both need some of Colonel Harvey's elixir! Or do y'all remember that drink that was on the market several years ago called "Joggin' in a Jug?" Ha! What was that stuff anyway?Anyhow, hope you both perk up soon.Love you both.

possum again

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61273: Good evening, all. Possum, sounds like you've had about enough loss for a while. I'm so sorry - I know how that can hurt. Bless your little heart. I'm so glad you have Laci, and wish I could have been there to see her hunting her Easter eggs. We had a bit of squealing going on yesterday, as that's when we had our egg hunt. My Fredericksburg kids had to leave early this morning to get home, so we had a big dinner and let the kids hunt eggs yesterday afternoon. My daughter's teenagers hid the eggs for my son's 4 and 7 yr old boys, and it was a hoot. I used plastic eggs and put candy in them, and pennies in some, and there were two with quarters. You should have heard the yelling when those were found!

Speaking of "Joggin' in a Jug" - that sounds like the stuff I'll be drinking tomorrow evening, getting ready for my tests on Tuesday!

Sure did enjoy that new little grandson over the weekend. He's cute as a button, and such a good baby. Just keep his little belly full, and he's a happy boy. I don't know why he shouldn't be happy, though. He has two doting parents and three teenage siblings who are his willing slaves. My daughter's head is still spinning with the reality of an infant at age 42, but she's so smitten with him it doesn't matter. God is good.

I wish you could hear the joyful concert I'm listening to right now. It's surely true - all creation will rejoice. There is a mockingbird sitting on my fence (thanks, honey) just singing away, as only a mockingbird can sing. As if that weren't enough, a cardinal is somewhere nearby, because I can hear his call as well, and get this - a pair of tiny wrens just landed on the brick ledge outside my "window on the world" and are singing a duet! I never realized those little things sang so beautifully, but they do! What a treat!

Well, back to my chair. Clear liquids start tonight, so don't have to worry much about what I'm going to eat. Maybe I'll go stir up a bowl of jello, might come in handy.

Be blessed, everyone, and remember, we serve a risen Savior! --Romeena

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61274: What are you having done, a colonoscopy, Ro?

Wow, Possum, that is alot of loss at once. Just a word of advice after having gone through something similar over the past year: Be good to yourself and don't be suprised if it gets worse before it gets better. Let yourself grieve. The pain of losing my best friend still creeps up on me when I don't expect it. It still hurts and I miss her more than ever because it's been almost I year since we talked. I dreamed about her last night and woke up to realize she is really gone. I do have the hope of eternal life and will see her again and that is a huge comfort, but, boy I miss her terrible. The other day when I was gathering things for the camping trip, I came across a foam mattress that belonged to Karen and it had peices of her hair in it. She had this uncontrollable kinky hair that fell out everywhere. I find alot of little reminders of her and it still hurts but the pain is not as sharp as it used to be and the shock is less. Maybe I am coming to acceptance, I hope.

I never heard of Joggin' In A Jug but it sounds like something I could use. I would settle for the elixer, though....pass me the bottle, Ro.

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61275: By the way, I hope you got some pictures of that grandbaby to post for us, Ro. I can't wait to see him.

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61276: Actually, Boo, I didn't even pick up my camera, but it wasn't necessary. My DIL is such an accomplished photographer, and she was everywhere at once with her camera, so she'll be sending me some pictures. I'll pass them on.

Yes, on Tuesday, I'm having a colonoscopy, EGD and probable esophageal dilatation. I've been having a lot of low-grade, discrete chest pain, and the cardiologist really thinks it's not cardiac, but is more likely due to some esophageal strictures, which are a carryover from the radiation I took in 1979. So, a dilatation could relieve it. I hope so, because I'm getting tired of it, but I'm surely not looking forward to the dilatation. I'll be asleep, of course, but just the idea....

This is a terrible time to be on clear liquids. I've got a dozen and a half Easter eggs in the fridge (sent some home with the kids but still have those left), and lots of wonderful leftovers from Saturday's dinner, and I can't eat any of it. I don't know how long I'll be restricted after the procedure, but since there is some trauma to the esophagus, I would think I'll be on very soft stuff for a day or so. Meanwhile, that lovely smoked brisket sits in the freezer.

I hope you get to feeling better soon, Boo. Your physical ailments will resolve, but getting over losing Karen will take time, as you know. As you said, though, the pain is less sharp and the shock is less. It just takes time. Possum, time and prayer will heal your heart as well. I know whereof I speak.

Be blessed, all. --Romeena

March 23, 2008 - Msg 61278: Happy Easter, everyone. I had to work today so, since Kai wanted to wait for me to go to church, we went to the evening service. It was put on by the teenagers tonight, and they did a couple of skits, one more comical and one not so, but both with good messages.

I don't think I even mentioned that my wife is back from Hawaii. It's actually been a couple of weeks now. Her dad is undergoing the radiation treatment, but we don't know if he will do the chemo. She may be going over there again in a month or so. The siblings are taking turns being over there, I guess.

Gosh, Possum, you sure have a lot of pain on your plate right now. I'm glad you were able to enjoy a little bit of life with Laci and the Easter egg hunt, though.

Ro, good luck and prayers for your tests and procedures. Sounds like you need a break from that stuff as well. Don't worry, this too shall pass. And you'll be able to enjoy that brisket, too. Better late than never, right?!

Well, goodnight everyone, and remember, some bunny loves you.
Ok, dumb Easter bunny joke.;)

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61279: Hey Spot! Love those blueberry pancakes!
Have a good night at work, and then get some sleep, hear?! :)

-Sterling Holobyte

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61280: Thanks for the encouraging word, Ro. You have been on my mind alot and I have been concerned about your physical problems. You certainly have my prayers that you are feeling better very soon. Prayers for your upcoming procedure as well. You are such a joy to all of us.

I feel like I finally turned the corner with this virus (Hooray). While I still am feeling weak, I am feeling much better. I really got alot of rest the past couple of days and slept lots last night and today. Bruce took over and my sister kept the kids alot so I was able to rest.

Something sort of funny (sort of not, I guess...): last night my nephew, Matt (little Emily's Dad) was coming up the stairs in the middle of the night, after going down for a glass of water, and he fell and fractured his arm in two places (not the funny part). What was funny was that when my Erin saw his cast today she exclaimed, "What happened?!", to which my nephew replied in his serious way, "I was coming up the stairs last night and got kicked in the stomach by the Easter Bunny, causing me to fall backwards down the stair". I thought it was pretty funny...

Think I will turn in and read a bit.

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61282: Good Monday morning porch. Hope everyone is up and ready to face the week.

I am working today, hopefully it will be a rather quite Monday around here.

Most of the kids in our area on on Spring Break this week, except for mine. They will be off the week of April 14th. I am hoping to take some time off that week. I need a break and hopefully I can do some things with the kids.

It is chilly on my end of the porch today.. around 27 this morning. I am ready for Spring as well.

Prayers for all today, especially for Romeena and her upcoming tests and prodecures.

Lunch menu will be: mexican chicken casserole, tossed salad. chocolate pie for dessert. tea or kool aid to drink.

I agree with everyone else about the TV Land changes.I am not at all sure what the Class reunion show is about but those people need to grow up. Just my opinion anyway.Seems like they are getting totally away from the original purpose of the channel. I would love to see some of the older shows resurface.

Better get back to work. see you at lunch!

Big Maude

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61283: Morning porch. Hope you are all well this fine spring morning.
Romeena, prayers for you as you undergo your tests and procedures tomorrow, and as you prep for them today. I think the prepping for a colonoscapy is worse than the actual procedure. I pray they find all well with your innards and can tune you up to give you the pep you need, sweet lady.:)

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61284: Good morning everyone. I hope that your Easter Sunday was special. Ours was, except that I woke up with some severe neck pain yesterday. A lot better today, but it still smarts.

The Mrs. was liturgist at church on Easter, and it was Nora's first time as acolyte. Plus both my parents and my mom-in-law were there. Made a great family Easter Sunday.

Prayers for all the other porchsters under teh weather. ROMEENA, the Mrs. is having some test today, too. Prayers for you both.

Did I miss your birthday, POSSUM? If so, happy b-day!

Well, I have to clear off the porch for a while. They are painting a spot on the ceiling where the plaster was repaired. Unless I want to work under a tarp, I have to scram for a bit.

Anybody want some Sweet Tart jelly beans? Butter cream egg?

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61285: Sorry, I just read a whole bunch of posts I somehow missed teh first time. I guess it was MAVIS who's b-day I missed (HAPPY B-DAY MAVIS!).

POSSUM: So sorry for your losses. What ROMEENA said.

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61286: Me-They, is that similar to the regular aco,
just less filling? ;)
Glad you had a nice Easter.
Sorry about your neck pain(I was going to make a joke about your pain in the neck ;), but since it's severe....). Hopefully you just slept on it wrong.

Hazel, thanks for the info on the petition. I have to get right over there. TvLand has really gone downhill with some of that stuff they put on.

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61287: Good morning, all. Thanks for the kind words and good wishes, everyone. I'll get past this, and have high hopes for feeling much better. I absolutely must lose about 40 pounds, because I'm sure that would improve my overall health picture greatly. My doctors don't say much about it, in fact none have actually mentioned it at all. When I do, they just agree that it would probably help some. Still, I know how I feel, and I'm sure it would make a big difference. So, that's my next project.

My scarlet-red azalea is coming into bloom. It's such a pretty thing. It's strange, though. My experience with azaleas has been that they bloom, then the leaves come on. This one goes into full leaf, then blooms. Pretty, but odd.

Some dwarf iris are blooming around the edge of the pond. Actually, I had forgotten about them - they're at least two years old, and had never bloomed. In fact, I don't even remember their foliage being there, though I'm sure it must have been. However, right now, their happy little faces are in full bloom, smiling up at me. Such pretty little things. I've even forgotten their names, will have to look them up. I have a list of everything and where it's planted, but in their case, there's just a list that's titled "Circling the Pond". Ha. That helps a lot. You'd think I would have at least said "East to West", or something a bit more specific. I can figure it out, if I can identify one or two of them from the catalogs. Not that it matters, I just like to know them by name.

Well, gotta run by the pharmacy and pick up that witches' brew for tonight, and by the store for some green or yellow jello and some apple juice. Can't have orange, red or purple, so what's in my pantry? Cherry, strawberry, grape and orange jello, and cranberry or pomegranate juice.

Be blessed, everyone. Hope things go well for Mrs. Me-They - nothing serious, I hope? --Romeena

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61288: Oh, do you know how to tell if you're packing extra weight? Other than looking in the mirror or trying to zip your pants? It's easy. Get in a swimming pool and stay there for a while. You know how light and free you feel. Then after a while, move toward the shallow end, and when you can touch bottom, just start walking out. As your body begins to emerge from the water, it feels like someone is hanging weights all over you. When your hips and thighs finally emerge, you will feel like you're made of lead. It's unbelievable, really an eye-opener. I noticed it last summer when I was in Destin with my son and his family. Amazing. --Romeena

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61289: sounds like everyone had a really happy Easter. Romeena--I will be praying for your medical stuff-I have alot of that myself lately. I am going to my doctor today and I hope she will be pleased with the weight I have lost and that my blood sugar will have come down a few more points! I was messing around with the "Charlene's Fish Muddle the other day and found out that it's really extra good if you add some orential frozen veggie mixed and a few dashes of (lite) soy sauce and sprinkle on some chow mein noodles. I know this is straying away from things abit but I can't help it--I always like to take a basic recipe and "make it my own"
Having The other "Hoot Owl pie" tonight.

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61290:
Looks like most of us had great Resurrection Day clebrations! Jesus be praised!
Boo- sounds like you got the same cold strain that i did with the 48 hour thing! Even my TEETH hurt, which is very unsual for me!
Possum- my condolences on your recent losses. All have exprreed my sentiments. May the Lord be with you.
Good to see Big maude, Luci, Sterling, Asa and all!
I think ASA was just waiting for Official verification to return. I see that the work order came in for the stop sign. Good job asa!
And remember, a wink's as good as a nod to a blind mule!
Barney (to Andy): Did you know that knitters and crocheters seldom have stomach disorders.

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61291: What the heck is Hoot Owl Pie, HappyNut?

I am moving around more today and actually put in a load of laundry but I still feel awful puny and it feels like my head is under water. Hope tomorrow is better....I hear the couch calling..

Ro, I don't need the "pool test" to know how heavy I am. I feel it all the time!! ha

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61292: Afternoon Y'all! Got chilly on my end of the Porch,as spot said earlier.Pretty day, though.

Ro,that's strange about your azaleas.Around here the leaves stay on pretty much year round and they bloom about this time each year, although this year I noticed them budding out back in Feb. Most of the colors down here around Charleston are hot pink, pale pink, red, and white. You said yours is a scarlet shade-bet that is pretty!

Boo,I declare, what are we gonna do with you? Get well, girl!

Oh,Ro,hope all goes well for you tomorrow. Will keep you in my prayers.

Hey Happy Nut! I'm curious about that Hoot Owl Pie as well. You're gonna have to tell us more about it.

Mavis, wishing you a belated Happy Birthday! And Chuck-welcome to Grandparenthood! Sorry,I didn't say anything earlier.Congratulations!

Thank y'all for the thoughts and kindness you've shown me.God put the best people on this planet right here on this Porch & I love you all.

March 24, 2008 - Msg 61293: Possum,

I didn't realize you lived in Charleston. I love Charleston. One of my favorite places to visit. It's only 3 hours away!

March 25, 2008 - Msg 61294: test

March 25, 2008 - Msg 61295: Good morning. Where is everyone?

I am dragging around trying to get ERin off to school. I certainly am feeling better but still very tired.

Did any of you happen to catch the new show on TLC called "I Can Make You Thin"? Nothing new or shocking but made sense. I think I will give his suggestions a try. I have used them in the past but didn't keep up with them. He tells you things like, don't diet, eat when you are hungry or your metabolism will slow down if you starve (we already knew that), be aware of what you are eating but not eating while watching TV, etc. He did an interesting test on random folks in a diner. He blindfolded them before sitting their breakfast in front of them and told them just to eat until they felt full. All of them left alot of food on their plates when they were made aware of how they felt as they ate. The problem alot of us fat people have is that we just shovel in the food until its all gone instead of listening to our stomachs telling us we've had enough. I think we will try it by making sure we sit down at the table for meals and slow down, chewing each bit well, etc. Ro, you mentioned wanting to lose weight and I know you already know all of this but a refresher might help some. You might want to check out the show.

Well, better get Erin off the couch. It's always hard to get back into the swing of things after spring break...I was looking at the school calendar and Erin gets out for summer vacation on May 16th! That's right around the corner. I better start thinking of some inexpensive things for the kids to do this summer.

Later friends,

March 25, 2008 - Msg 61296: Good morning everyone. I only have a minute because they are going to paint the ceiling in my office today (they fixed the falling plaster). So, unless I want to work under a tarp, I gotta vacate until this afternoon.

BOO: May 16th is my birthday! Not that I'm dropping any hints or anything ;).
