September 22, 2008 - Msg 66344: Haha, that's funny, M-T. It happened to Bruce after Erin was born, just before we were discharged from the hospital. Bruce had Erin in the little bassinet in the hallway and a young woman came up and said, "She is so cute. Is she your grandbaby?". I thought it was pretty funny. Luckily I wasn't there at the time so she didn't ask if I was the grandmother.

I need to go get ready for bible study at the rehab. Prayers always appreciated.

I have something I want to ask you all about later but I don't have time to do it now. So, all you "Dear Abby's" out there, get your thinking caps ready!

September 22, 2008 - Msg 66348: Don't know exactly what was going on at rehab tonight but we only had 2 girls. It was frustrating because the same homos@xual issue came up again. I'm getting really tired of beating that dead horse and getting nowhere with them. It's hard to know what to tell them.

Well, I am pretty bushed and have Baby Emily to take care of tomorrow. Bruce is taking Erin to the doctor for me tomorrow because she has some kind of rash that is spreading and itching her. It started as a small patch on her chest weeks ago. I just kind of watched it and thought I would wait and show it to the Dermatologist next month during her appointment, but the darned thing is showing up on her abdomen, back, arms and thighs and is itching her, so Bruce is going to take her in to hopefully get some cream to help clear it up. I'm guessing it is some kind of dermatitis caused by something she is coming in contact with. She had alot of that sort of thing when she was a baby.

Well, good night Mayberry. See you in the morning with my coffee..

September 23, 2008 - Msg 66352: Hey Boo, the wife is back to normal. 'Course from where I am sitting that might not be a good thing. ;)

Hey possum, I wish I could pay all your bills but I have enough of my own. We did get a little something from my wife's dad, so the financial burden we were going through for a while there has been lessened.
Of course, my wife has decided to buy the world, so we should be back to square one in no time. She just doesn't have much "cents" when it comes to conserving money. ;)
But if I say anything about her spending she can start the insulting because I don't have a job.

We celebrated Kai's birthday Sunday at, yep you guessed it... Chuck E. Cheese. My wife's idea to have a party with just family members there, and have ANOTHER party with Kai's friends at a later date. One materialistic party is enough I say. But my suggestion of having a simple party at the house falls on deaf ears.
Well, Kai had fun playing with her cousins, dancing with that giant mouse, and getting 100 extra tickets to spend on plastic stuff at the counter there.

I still think she would have just as much fun, and more meaningful, with a simple house party. In fact, I know she would. As we have had those before.

Hey Spot, we'll have to go biking sometime. I love to get out and ride.

September 23, 2008 - Msg 66354: Man Sterling, I'm with you..I would rather give myself a blackeye than go to Chuck E Cheese. My poor kids never get to go anywhere. The best birthday parties my kids had are the ones we had at home...they are the ones that even their friends remember best. The backyard pool and pinata parties are the best. Let me tell you about a birthday party that Erin went to this weekend that was great. The hosts lived out in the country and had a huge tree house in the backyard. It looked like something out of a movie. They also had a trampoline with a gaurd. The kids had a blast for 3 hours. The mom had collected about a hundred empty plastic bottles of various sized and they had "bottle wars". The kids threw the bottles at each other for hours. Since they were empty, nobody got hurt. They also poured water from the windows of the treehouse on each other and just had a wonderful time. Afterward, the kids just picked up the bottles so there wasn't alot of clean-up. They had cake and ice cream and that was it. Now THAT is the kind of party I would have liked when I was a kid.

Better go...Baby Emily will be here soon...

September 23, 2008 - Msg 66356: Rev - I can't believe that about Ray Bolts. Some of his songs are so powerful. You know, I don't mind that he is gay as long as he doesn't practice it. Man - I grew up on his music. . .

I understand Boo - about the rashes that is. . .it seems we always have some kind of itching going on.

Sterling - I take my kids to Chuck's every once in a while. Their dad doesn't go - it just me and them. We get there when it opens and we have our pizza and pop and most of the games to ourselves. About the time everyone starts arriving - we are ready to head. I like to go like that! And because we get there that early - we usually get some free tokens from the staff because we are there that early.
Give Kai birthday hugs from the porch...

Must get busy!

Just some food for thought, sorry. Bluey goes my soapbox.
BOO- After bruce gets the diagnosis on Erin, if the creams arent working try some oregano oil. Yes, i'm serious, it clears up many rashes that are fungal in nature. Start with one area and see how it does first. I pray it isnt MRSA.

September 23, 2008 - Msg 66373:
Possum, possum- here is something I pulled right off the web. It is pretty much the routine that i follow. And I agree, if you can get him off Zocor, that would be a good thing:

Health Problems Caused by Statin Drugs

Here's the hefty price you can pay for using statin drugs:
Permanent serious liver damage and abnormalities
Extreme muscle pain (neuropathy), muscle disease (myopathy), muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), weakness and problems walking

Rapid loss of memory and mental clarity, confusion and even amnesia

S@xual dysfunction and performance problems

Negative personality changes – irritability and hostility

Nausea, diarrhea, constipation, headaches, insomnia and fever

Destruction of vital nutrients essential for heart strength and brain function
But, since you can lower high cholesterol naturally with NO negative side effects, it only makes good sense to take the natural route.

Ways to Lower Cholesterol Naturally

Begin gradually (but persistently) making these simple lifestyle and diet changes:
Exercise 30 minutes a day. It works better than any drug out there. Exercise increases good cholesterol (HDL), reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) and naturally lowers total cholesterol levels – with no negative side effects.

Increase your dietary fiber. Include more high fiber foods, such as fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains and fiber supplements in your diet. The soluble fiber from beans and whole grains actually binds with cholesterol and carries it out of your body.

Eat good fat, eliminate bad fat. Reduce animal fats, especially from dairy and red meat. Stick with extra virgin olive oil and fatty fish as your main sources of fat. The fish oil from omega 3 fish not only improves cholesterol, it also helps lower blood pressure and can dramatically reduce your risk of heart disease.

Feast on fruits and vegetables. Phytonutrient antioxidants in colorful fruit and vegetables have been shown to help lower cholesterol and protect against heart disease. So replace sweets and processed foods with healthy produce.

Take healthy-heart supplements. Quality omega 3 fish oil capsules have been proven in numerous studies to be highly effective in naturally preventing and reversing heart disease. Fish oil does a better job than statin drugs with no negative side effects. Whole food supplements, including B complex, GTF chromium and garlic, can also help.

Possum, I hope that helps. I do 3 fish oil and 2 garlic a day. You can get "odorless" varieties of each.

September 23, 2008 - Msg 66376: MDC, how much fish oil each day? By 3, I assume you mean 3 capsules. The ones I take say "300 mg Omega-3's" on the label. Of course, I don't mean the men on this here porch, we all know they're not hard headed! *wink* Where is Asa?? He must be doing an extra long show to impress Romeena's company. *Mavis

September 23, 2008 - Msg 66379: Well, I wish the fish oil capsules didn't make me so sick! I hate to eat fish so it's a problem. Your post reminded me, though, MDC, that I need to be taking my coQ10 since I am on Lipitor. I have not had any side effects from it and have been on it for 7 years (could explain my low libido, but then so could alot of other things). I am on a low dose, though of 20mgs and when they tried to raise it, my liver has a problem. I have genetic high cholesterol that is still high no matter what I do, but what I wonder is this: is high cholesterol, in itself, always a bad thing? If a person is eating right and has a healthy lifestyle, I think cholesterol probably doesn't matter that much, especially if it is the only risk factor someone has for heart attack. Just my opinion. It so happens that I had my appointment with the doctor today and all my labs looked better this time. My sugar was a little lower, and so were my triglycerides. We have been cutting way back on the junk food around here and trying to get more exercise.

Yes, MDC, I hate to even put steroid creme on Erin but I will give it a trial to see if it works. To answer your question about the 2 who were baptized, they are having many trials but are always at bible study. Right now they are haing a tough time dealing with their s#xuality and questioning God. It's a tough situation. Thank you for you prayers and concern for the girls. By the way, I forgot what I asked you to put the Dear Abby cap on for, darn it. You might as well take it off until I remember....must be that darned Lipitor effecting my memory!

I think I will try the flax seed oil again, Mavis. If it's good enough for Mr. Neff, it's good enough for me. Funny how you immediately thought of ASA when you mentioned hard-headed men. Don't pick on my toolbelted friend, Mavis...hehe.

Better hit the sack...there is lots of laundry to do tomorrow.

September 24, 2008 - Msg 66380:
Hello porch family...another great day in SC. The Mrs and I played some tennis today. It was so nice outside.

MDC....I agree with everything you posted about the cholesterol. Very good advice. I also like to take psyllium soluble fiber to help get enough daily. And as for the garlic, I have read many reports that the "Aged Garlic" is aborbed so much better. The best price that I have found this type of garlic is at The Vitamin Shop. They have thier own brand of it and the funny thing is if you read the back it is manufactured by Wakunaga Of America Co. which is the maker of Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract. Same thing just much cheaper.

Boo...the flaxseed oil is very good also. I take both....fish and flax. Both are good sources of Omega-3 fatty acids but the big difference is flax does not contain EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (Docosahexanoic acid), the two key nutrients that go straight to your head and heart. Flax Oils contain LNA (Alpha Linolenic acid) which your liver has to break down to form EPA & DHA. But even after the break-down, blood level show much lower levels of these nutrients than with the fish oil. But the fact is, they still are both very good. (Of course along with your CoQ10)

Hope Ro can get the photo album fixed back up. That our source of putting faces to names here.

Tom....I'm sure you're proud of your new great-niece.

Spot....I'll pick up the tab for breakfast in the morning. I'm already hungry.

Happy Birthday Kai.

Well better get to bed. Prayers for all the porch family.

September 24, 2008 - Msg 66381: Good evening, everyone! Just spent the last hour catching up - have been having a great time with my friend. Today I drove her out to Allen to see another friend. We had lunch at a cute little sandwich shop, visited for a while, then came home. Ate leftovers here, she went on to bed, I started to, then decided to stop by the porch, so here I am.

About the album and the "attic" notice - I'm working on it. I hadn't purchased anything from their "store" in a year, so they consider that inactivity, even though my album dues are paid. Hmmm. Don't think I like that, but that's their policy. So, I tried to get into the store to pay additional dues to get the album out of the attic, and am having trouble getting in because my email address (identifier) has changed. I emailed them, and am waiting to hear back from them as to how I should proceed. Worst case scenario, which I'm sure won't happen - they'll trash the album. Not a problem, as I've saved all the photos on my own computer and can build another album. Nothing lost but time and I get a new day every morning. (heehee) I'll let you know when the album is open again.

Well, I'm a tired old gal, so think I'll hit the hay. Prayers for all the requests mentioned, and welcome to Weaver. Be blessed, everyone --Romeena

September 24, 2008 - Msg 66383: Hi, REV! We are really having fun - old friends are one of God's best earthly gifts, I guess. She'll be here until Friday, and I'll be sorry to see her leave.

To everyone - the album is restored. Also, I need to correct what I said above. There is only one "dues" to be paid, and I hadn't paid it! I thought I had, and when their "attic" notice said I had to pay store dues to get the album out of the attic, I thought that meant something separate and apart from the annual album dues, but it doesn't. I just hadn't paid the album dues, because their notices were going to my old email address, I suppose. They said they had sent it three times, and I never saw it, so that's the only logical explanation. Anyway, the dues are paid (only 9.95 for a year) and the album is now available. Spot, I'll be getting those Lineman Rodeo pictures in soon, but right now, I'm off to bed. Am beat to the socks! --Romeena

I took the kids to the movies last night and here is a warning to you with small children. Think twice before taking them to see the new animated movie "Igor". I knew nothing about it except that it was the only "kids" movie showing at the theater and the kids wanted to see it. It was not a kids movie, in my opinion. The characters said things like, "Oh my God!" and made references to s#x and the animated female characters were very busty. One was a swiss-miss looking character with half her animated ta-ta's hanging out. Why on earth would MGM stoop to that when making a movie for kids? Disgusting.

I can't believe how nice the weather has been here lately. Sunny, cool, and autumn.

Haven't been posting much but I do stop by in the mornings to read and pray with you good folks. I haven't been posting out of fear of wrecking the party. I've been finding myself disillusioned and angry as of late. I do believe we may need some sort of means testing before we are allowed to use our right of franchise.

I gotta say, I enjoy going to Chuck E Cheese, that rat makes a good pie. However, we never had a Birthday Party there. My girls may have out grown it but I do have good memories. And, I've had a lot of black eyes during my hockey days, those aren't much fun, at least the way I recall 'em.

Possum, check point chickie... I have not been locked up again :) just haven't been around the porch for a few days so thought I would sit a spell.

Welcome to Weaver.

Work has been kinda slow for me the past couple weeks.. some of my doing and some folks just not keeping their appointments. I had to take the past 2 Monday mornings off, the first to take my Mom for an echocardiogram and the next Monday to see her cardiologist. Just yearly routine visits since her bypass surgery in 2001. Dr. said she has done well and will see her back in a year.

Kids keeping me busy with school stuff. Just finished the first 6 weeks, can't believe how fast things are moving. Patrick's football team is struggling this year, a year of rebuilding their starting lines both offense and defense which will all pretty much graduate this year. Makes me sad for him as this is his last year but not much I can do but continue to be supportive. Hopefully, I can get new pics of the kids to Romeena in th email this week.

I didn't keep her outside for long because I was concerned about limbs being blown down from the pecan tree. That's all I need is for her (or me) to get knocked out by a limb! Plus, those pecans hurt when they conk ya on the head!

Well hello there Maude! Glad you are doing ok. I was wondering if you were hiding out again at O' Malley's cabin!

Stay strong,auh20.Life gets tough sometimes, doesn't it?

Big Shocker (I am being sarcastic) about Clay Aiken. Anyone with half a brain could've figured that out. Like Spot said- Who cares?

Glad the photo album is back up,Ro. I'll get some pictures of Laci's birthday to you as soon as someone shares them with me. My sister took lots of pics but as of yet hasn't e-mailed me any. My daughter took some too. I'll get'em!

Hi to Mcbeevee!

It's warm and humid here this morning but supposed to dry up and get a breeze from the north...we'll see. The weather man has barely escaped being lynched in the past so he had better be right. People around here are sick and tired of the heat.

John Denver...too bad he died so young. Was it a plane crash? All I can remember is that it was right after his last concert here in Corpus Christi. Have any of you seen the Christmas movie that he made back in the 80's? I forgot the name but it was filmed in Colorado and he played a single dad who was a reporter, I think? I'll have to think of the name of it..It was filmed in a little town called "Georgetown", which is about my favorite little Colorado town and I have stayed there often.

Better get Erin up for school...

Sorry, I won't be joining you at Mcdonald's this morning, Spot. I just don't like my money going to fund some of the programs Mcdonald's is endorsing. Won't say any more about it here, but I'm sure if you do a search with "boycott" and "Mcdonald's" in the subject line, you'll see what I am talking about.

It's alright though, I am not a big fan of fast food anyway.:) I guess the fastest food I like to eat is Minute Rice.

Yeah Boo, I think I remember reading that John Denver crashed in his small experimental-type plane.

-Sterling Holobyte

September 25, 2008 - Msg 66411: As a certified John Denver-ite, he did die off the coast of California in an experimental plane. He was in the process of maybe re-uniting with his ex-wife Annie. He had many tribulations in his life as I think many stars face. I remember the Christmas movie - The Christmas Gift - but I really enjoy him with the Muppets and Alfie the Christmas Tree. Okay - take me home. . .country roads. . .

Thank you for making my burger naked Spot - I usually eat plain hamburgers when I go out. The other nite at Burger King was a splurge to buy a whopper - usually it is a plain kids hamburger.

McBeevee - how interesting - that was the episode on this morning. Do you have a shiny silver hat and 12 hands on your belt?

Have a great day - going to the Versailles Pumpkin Show - I don't know if they have a website or not but it really is about the pumpkins. Jess is walking in the parade on Saturday for the local library. My MIL is a librarian there and she keeps him in book heaven.

September 25, 2008 - Msg 66414: Good morning everyone. It’s sunny and cool now, but they say we’re in for a rainy couple of days and strong winds this afternoon and evening. At least it’ll make for nice sleeping tonight. Our bedroom is in the half-story, and we have a metal roof. I love that sound.

TOM: Glad the surgery went well and congrats on your niece. Don’t be a stranger!

GIZMO: Hello to you, too!

BOO: I was thinking about taking Chad to see the “Igor” movie but then read up about it on Pluggedin. They had the same concerns. Guess we’ll let that one slide on by. I believe that the people making kids movies have two basic misconceptions. First, kids today are more sophisticated and therefore you must acknowledge and expose them to the “real world” and not bow to any “Leave It to Beaver” type cultural mores. Second, that kid’s movies must work on two levels and include “inside jokes” and images that only the adults will get, and so will be entertaining to them as well. The first point basically is a play for the lowest common denominator. And, frankly, Wile E. Coyote falling off that cliff is as funny to kids today as it was when I was a kid. So much for sophistication. The second point is ridiculous. I don’t need so-called grown-up sensibilities while I’m watching a kid’s movie. As a parent buying a $7 movie ticket, I believe it’s more important to introduce my kids to good (as in quality) stories with positive messages then an in-your-face reflection of bad behavior that provides me a few chuckles. Guess that’s as close to a moulage as I’ll be coming today.

AUH2O: Sorry to hear you feel that way, but I understand. I’ve been going through some pretty frustrating times lately myself. There have actually been a couple days when I’ve had to control my drive to do something I may regret later (like quit my job on the spot). I’ll be praying for you, and hoping that you’ll stop by more frequently. I’d like to talk a little politics. Heck, we’ve only got a month left!

STERLING: I never understood the need for people to discuss their s*xuality to people who have no business asking. I guess when you get to a certain level of celebrity people hound you with inappropriate questions. Regarding the McDonald’s boycott, I applaud anyone who takes on a stand on any issue they feel is important. For myself on this particular issue, I can’t help but wonder if McDonald’s business decisions in this regard are worse than, say, Wal-Mart’s to hold their employees to sub-standard wages. Based on recent Wall Street problems, it’s pretty evident that, in general, morality and big business don’t necessarily walk hand-in-hand. Of course, there are always exceptions that we can look to (like Chick-fil-A). In the disclosure department, I haven’t shopped at a Wal-Mart in about a dozen years. We all have our lines, don’t we?

Welcome MCBEEVEE!

HM: I always liked John Denver music. Sad his lofe was cut so short. There was a really bad tv movie of his life a few years ago starring Chad Lowe.

Well, as much as I’d like to set and chat all day, break time is over!

West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads.

All my memories gathered 'round her,

Dark and dusty, painted on the sky,
Misty taste of moonshine
Teardrops in my eyes.

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong,
West Virginia, mountain momma,
Take me home, country roads.

I hear her voice
In the mornin' hour she calls me,
Radio reminds me of my home far away,
And drivin down the road I get a feelin'
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday...

Country roads, take me home

September 25, 2008 - Msg 66418: I agree that we shopuld find out all we can about the businesses we support. I was just wondering out loud if support of one thing we don't agree with is worse than another. For instance, some large department stores buy goods manufactured in countries where labor is exploited. Most of us would regard that as unchristian (especially if kids are involved). And then there's the whole China thing. Sometimes I think that if I were to stand too high on principle, I wouldn't be able to buy anything, anywhere.

Hey Folks

Wow, I was in McDonalds and Wal-Mart today.

I didn't mean to sound so pathetic yesterday, all is well here, things are great actually. We are remolding our home. That starts in a couple of weeks. I was speaking of the national news. I can't believe we have to bail out all these "victims" (they used to be called deadbeats) of "predatory lenders" (they used to be called snake oil salesmen).

M-T Hears a little politics. Did you hear Bubba on CBS this morning. He was blaming the Democrats for not listen to him, and the Republicans, with regard to lending. It was so typical, can't ya just see him in a skirt trying to get off the Titanic. I can't wait until history flushes him. Someday he'll only me remember as, "Impeached Presidents" for a 100 Alex.

Spot-I enjoy John Denver music very much. I miss that style on the radio.
