Slow morning!
Boo, I had to smile when i saw that the line your family picked up from that ep was the "Just do it"
line (the "antithesis" line) instead of where
he (Mr Tucker) is leaning back against the post
and quietly singing the Church in the Wildwood,
(the "moral of the story" line.) haha , just an observation.
Oh well, I guess that is more REAL life !
BTW, my last bad 70s song..Maggie by Rod Stewart!

I appreciate it and good night.

It may hurt your feelings a bit
Last night when I walked in my bathroom
I slipped in a big pile of shhhhaving cream, shaving cream.... shave every day and you'll always look keen.

May 13, 2009 - Msg 72585: In support of Carrie Prejean, I would quote Matthew 5:10 - "Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Hooray for her, and may her tribe increase.

Friends, please help me pray for my friend Joe, the designer and driving force behind my beloved yard. He's in the hospital again - you may remember that a few months ago he had a defibrillator implanted in his chest, because of a couple of episodes of ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation. Well, last week the device fired three times, in response to more V-tach/V-fib episodes. Tests have shown that he has a fully calcified valve, his heart is literally beating against a stone wall, and apparently he needs a valve replacement. There were more tests today to confirm, but that's what is planned. Please pray for medical success, and for spiritual peace, for him and for his wife as well. He's a good friend, and I'm very concerned.

Well, I'm off to clean the pond filters. Fountain is not flowing, and that's bad, the fish need the aeration. Be blessed, all. --Romeena

May 13, 2009 - Msg 72586: About Carrie Prejean- I admire her for staying true to her convictions and standing strong for her beliefs. However, there's the matter of those pictures and how she has explained them. The WIND blew her top open? Yeah, right, and I'm Michelle Obama! BTW,you can check them out on TMZ.com.(They have covered her up,so to speak, so as not to offend) If you've got the courage to speak truthfully about ONE matter, have the courage to do the same in regards to the other. Not wanting to get anyone riled up,but that's my take on it. I DO agree that she should keep her crown- we know it wasn't so much about the pics, but the question/answer controversy. And that wouldn't have been right.

Well, hush my mouth! I just went to that site, Possum, and my (probably hypocritical) response now is to remind Miss Prejean that one should not take the name of the Lord in vain. In other words, if you're going to call yourself a child of God, act like one. I know, I'm not perfect either, but I'm not on a stage competing to be crowned Miss Whatever and mouthing religious answers, on TV before millions of viewers, while a questionable past is circulating on the internet. Shame on her.

Be blessed, y'all! --Romeena

May 13, 2009 - Msg 72589:
OK, I can't get to the site, but I still support her. If it were any other person, these leftist groups would say "that person made a bad judgement call", or better yet, "made a mistake," but on this deal they want to drive a stake into her heart! It's a double standard. If she has repented and now speaks out boldly for the Lord, then I just see another St. Paul. His past was also circulating the "net" of his time. The disciples even didn't want anything to do with him!
Read Acts 9: 20-30. It's an eyeopener.

Hello porch family.....well got some work done around the house today.....mowed lawn, a little painting and serveral other things.

Ro.....continued prayers for Joe and family.

Everyone talking about Facebook...well I started a page a few weeks ago. Still kinda learning what it's all about.

Today I was in the hardware store and the salesman began talking to me. I had never met him so I didn't know him. But I could just tell he was really hurting inside. I had a t-shirt on that had "PRAY" on it. He asked me if I really believed in prayer and of course I assured him that I do. I began to share of the many times God has answered my prayers and how He has brought me through so many things. I asked him if I could pray for him. If you could have just seen the look on his face. He began to share how his wife had recently left him for another man and how it has nearly destroyed his life. He shared how hard it is to leave his two little girls that keep asking, "daddy why don't you want to stay with us anymore?" I prayed with this young man right then and there but I ask you wonderful folks to keep him (George) in your prayers. I'm not really sure how close of a walk he has with God but I'm believing God will use this to draw him closer. There are so many people hurting around us and we as God's children need to be there to share HIS love and tell them that Jesus loves them no matter the situation.

Well folks I'm off to bed. Praying for all the porch family and remember to tell someone that Jesus loves them.
-REV.

May 14, 2009 - Msg 72594: Oh, my goodness, REV. How sad for that young man. Of course, we don't have all the background, but based on the reason he gave for the separation, and the questions his girls are asking, it sounds like his wife is a real peach. The girls probably didn't just assume that he doesn't want to stay with them, it sounds like that's the excuse his wife is feeding them. I hope not. Prayers for your new friend, certainly, and thank you for remembering Joe. I talked at some length this evening with his wife. She's worried, having trouble sleeping, which is not surprising. Because of health constraints of her own, she's not able to drive beyond a short trip to the store down the road, so she has to wait until someone can come to take her to see Joe. His brother, John, has been doing that and likely will continue, but I told her that I will be happy to be a back-up resource. I can't imagine how frustrated she must feel right now.

When I went out to clean the pond filters earlier, I found two dead fish! I haven't lost a fish out there in, well, forever. One will disappear now and then, but I think that's predation. I haven't found a dead one in a year or so, and suddenly today, there were two. That's scary. They were small ones, the bigger ones seem to be okay, but I'm concerned about the water quality. The algae is rampant, I'm having to use a lot of algaecide along with the UV light, but the algaecide is supposed to be harmless to fish. Guess I'll be more diligent about cleaning the filters, and see what the next few days will bring. I sure do hate to lose any of those pretty little things.

Well, I'm off to the ironing board myself. Doctor's appointment at 8:30 in the morning, so need to get up early. Be blessed, folks. --Romeena

May 14, 2009 - Msg 72595: I am so thankful that you were there to help George. So sad. I will pray for him, thanks for sharing that need. I think I will get a T-shirt with "PRAY" on it!

Poor Joe's wife, bless her heart. I'm glad she has your friendship, Romeena. Sorry about your fish.

Well, thank the Lord, I have a dryer now so I can do laundry (wow, I can't believe I said that)! That's what I will be doing all day. MDC, wasn't it you that said you bought Cecile a washer that washed a ton of clothes in one load? That's what I am getting next! I was really blessed that my niece gave me her extra dryer this time. I will put it to use.

Better get Erin going.

Be back later.

What a wonderful story Rev. It is obvious that the Lord lead you to this Brother to testify to him during his dark hour. What a blessing to be able to be an instrument in the Lords hands like that. Prayers for him. And prayers for Romeena's friend.

I maybe should clarify my comments concerning Carrie Prejean. My purpose was not to question or judge her devotion to her faith, but rather her simply voicing her opinion on a subject she was asked about, and then being shreded to pieces by the media. Ain't that a shame in this world. If you voice an opinion, that is contrary to what the world has deemed right, you are called every name in the book. You have vultures coming out of the woodwork, trying to destroy you. Shameful, in my opinion. I am proud of her standing up to what she believes in, knowing good and well it was going to cause a firestorm.

A new dryer Boo? Guess your vacation is over. Hop to it!

Ky girl, how is your son doing? Better I hope.

Possum, Have things improved at your house any? You are always in my prayers. I know the challange you are dealing with having live next to an alcoholic growing up.

May 14, 2009 - Msg 72615: Rev, I am thankful to God that you were there for George. Coincidence? I think not.
I think, as Asa stated, that you were lead to him, and he to you, in fact.
I'm sure you gave him more comfort about his situation than you realize. And what's more, you gave him a direction to go with his troubles. That direction is up.

On Carrie Prejean, yes, ky girl you are right, they are trying to make her look like a hypocrite. But much worse, and per their intent, is to make OTHERS think she is a hypocrite, and write her off. Thus writing off her views.
And it is working to some extent. In some Christian circles Carrie must feel like she is in the arena with the lions it seems.
Did she make some bad judgements in her past? Probably, but who hasn't?
The left-wing radicals, who vehemently hate that someone went and spoke up, on national tv no less, about something that doesn't fit in with their view of how they want the world to be, want the Christian conservatives to say, "What a hypocrite she is", and that's why they dug up those pictures and talk about them on the "news" shows and blogs. They're saying, "See, you don't have to listen to her."

If God-hater Bill Maher suddenly became a Christian and devouted his life, and tv show, to God, wouldn't we Christians be the first to cheer him on on his journey, and think a little bit better of him then?

So why is Carrie getting back-handed by the very people who share her views on marriage and God. She basically testified her faith before a huge national audience. She didn't have to do that. She could have given the politically correct answer that that little worm who asked the loaded question, and a lot of the world as well, was expecting. But she didn't. She went far out a limb, especially in this world where "God" and "Jesus" are sadly things you don't talk about. And she should be applauded for that.

I love that he went ballistic afterwards, too. He showed the true face of the left's "tolerance".

But Miss Prejean still stands firm.
You know someone in her life at some time built a good foundation for her.

That's all I have to say.
Have to go pick up the Kai at her grandmas.

Have a good day all.

-Sterling Holobyte

So, I'm going to leave it to the Lord to sort out. Will I never learn? The world is indeed anxious to tear down, and they surely don't need my help.

I've never even visited Facebook, and Twitter is something the birds do around here. I think I may just leave it that way, at least for a while.

May 15, 2009 - Msg 72624: Good evening, all. Just got home from watching the grandsons play ball. The little one (age 5) is playing T-ball, and the little rascal is pretty good! He misses a lot more than he hits, but when he does connect, that ball knows it's been hit. Of course, he stops about ten feet from home, on his way to first, to watch the ball! His mother was behind me, beating me on the head and yelling "Run, Hudson, run!" Too funny! Then the 8-yr old had a game. They're still playing coach-pitch, but it's a real game. He's a left-handed batter, and he can really send the ball sailing. His team won, 11-10, and he was responsible for 6 of those 11 points. He hit one clear homer. It hit the back fence - had it been a few inches higher it would have cleared the fence. There was no one on base, so the only score was his own run. But then he hit a high fly to the outfield that of course the other 8-yr old players fell over themselves trying to snag. Happens there were three on base, and they all made it in. He didn't, he got stopped at third, and didn't get to score, but there were three more runs. Then he did basically the same thing with two runners on base, and brought them in. So he actually generated six points. He's going to be good.

REV, to answer your question, there can be different reasons for your blood not flowing well at any particular time. If you had eaten a lot of greens, like turnip or mustard greens, they contain a lot of Vitamin K, which will thicken your blood temporarily. You could have been a bit dehydrated - had you been working and sweating a lot? Sometimes it's the technique of the phlebotomist, though usually that's not the case, especially at a blood bank when that's all they do all day. I wouldn't worry about it - if it happens again, you might mention it to your doctor and see if he or she wants to do a bleeding time on you.

Well, I'm tired. Guess Ill go to bed. See you folks in the morning - be blessed! --Romeena

This morning, we found out that a house about a mile away exploded. Propane leak. Thank God that the 85 year-old woman who lives there was staying with relatives at the time and no one was home. It completely destroyed the house (which was a converted 1895 two-room schoolhouse) and knocked several nearby homes off their foundations. A total of seven homes were damaged.

I have one question: If there are shorts being washed around here, what am I, chopped liver?

ROMEENA: For a chuckle on the issue, check out the An Coulter column.

Prayers for all the requests made today.

HOMEMAKER: Did you find me? I haven't been able to download all my e-mail.

May 15, 2009 - Msg 72629: Good Friday Morning everyone! Loks like we're in for a rainy weekend in NC too. Can I say something? Why is TV Land running Married with Children now? I noticed that last night. Geeze, and right when they were playing Andy too. Drives me nuts when they start adding all those new shows and that Cougar thing can not end soon enough.

I think thats all the griping I have for the day I'll return the soap box now. Is anyone up for lunch? Maybe we could meet at the Cracker Barrel ya'll have a good day--Salty Dog

Well, that Ron Howard movie starts today!
I am so disappointed in what he's done the past few years! I think Apollo 13 was his last decent film.

M-T, I'll do your shorts...I am STILL not finished with the laundry! That is really something about the exploding house! I'm so thankful the elderly woman was not at home. I'm surprised an exploding house didn't wake you wife...poor dear is probably exhausted these days. Hey, I got your comment about your facebook page (writing on walls, etc), but I can't leave a message on your page. May 15, 2009 - Msg 72635: Anyone seen a good Gomer episode? I just watched about 30.
Mr.Matlock

May 15, 2009 - Msg 72636: Good morning, porch! Gosh, you boys are having a rough time with your shorts these days. (pun intended) Of course, there's an easy fix for that. Do 'em yourself! (heehee)

Salty, I couldn't agree more. That "Married with Children" thing was annoying when it was first run, and I'm not about to watch it now. What on earth are the folks at TV Land thinking? I wish somebody, if not them, then somebody else, would step up and really be a "retro" station, running nothing but the GOOD OLD SHOWS, not these idiotic, low-class, fifth-grade humor shows they're throwing at us these days. There are dozens of good shows in the vaults, why can't they bring them back? If TAGS disappears too, then they've lost me for good and all.

How about we start an email campaign? If you go to TVLand.com, there is a "contact us" link. Let's all go there and send them an email, telling them what we think. Be polite, inject a little humor, but let them know that we want clean shows, and would really enjoy the golden oldies once again. It probably won't help, but it could, and it costs nothing to try.

Yep, the grandson is pretty good already, I guess. He's flat-dog serious about it, too. I'm proud of my son and his wife, the way they handle it. No pushing or pressure, just a lot of encouragement and praise. David is always saying "Just shake it off, son. You'll do better next time." They're there to support, but both will tell you that the minute they think the boys aren't enjoying it anymore, they're out of there. It's about the kids, nothing more.

Actually, both boys love it. It has been so much fun to watch Landry's progress. This is Hudson's first year, so he's not doing a lot, but he will. Landry's first year was a hoot. On one occasion, he was down on his knees at third base, playing with a bug, when by some miracle the batter hit a hard line drive straight at him. If it had been an inch lower it would have knocked his cap off, and Landry never knew it went by! David just pulled his own cap down over his eyes and hid. Too funny!

Well, gotta go. I need to call Joe and see how he's doing this morning. Looks like he'll have the valve replacement, probably on Monday. Prayers, please. --Romeena

May 15, 2009 - Msg 72637: Well, hello there, Mr. Matlock. Have you been a-lurkin' around the porch? Just step right up and find a rocker, we always welcome newcomers. As you can probably tell, we're sort of a hybrid porch - not exactly a message board, but not instant chat either. It works for us. The rules are simple. Rule Number One: Obey all rules! Rule Number Two: No writing on walls, as it takes a lot of work to get writing off the walls.

Other than that, we do try to always sign our posts, though most of us have been here so long we recognize each other anyway, but signatures help. We talk about a lot of things, just like Andy and Aunt Bee and Barney and all their friends did on Andy's front porch, but TAGS comments are always welcomed and valued.

So come on and sit a spell, friend. We're glad to make your acquaintance. --Romeena

May 15, 2009 - Msg 72643: Not only "Married With Children",but they're also showing "Roseanne" on TVLand now. Neither of those shows seem to fit into what TVLand started with: good old retro comedies(suitable for everyone) and such.I'll take "Roseanne" (if I have to)over "Married With Children" but think about all the other programs of yesteryear that we could be enjoying- "My Three Sons" is one I'd love to see again. I'm sure each of you can think of one you'd rather view than those two-right?
Don't even get me started on the "Cougar"!
Welcome Mr. Matlock-glad to have you in Mayberry!

Let's take Me-They out tonight as an early birthday celebration- Gigolo Club or Morielli's? Which do y'all think he'd prefer?

May 15, 2009 - Msg 72645: Romeena, I wanted to tell you that we have a cable station called, Retro TV that actually shows all old shows, but I never see comedy sitcoms on it. They show Marcus Welby, Wild Wild West, Ironside, Emergency, things like that...they even show Night Gallery now and then. You can google it and found out if it can be gotten in your area. TVLand is a joke, but it is the only station I have that airs TAGS.

I don't think Me-They would appreciate the Gigolo Club...he would probably prefer Morelli's, don't you think? Let's go there, but let's go late...they are open until midnight!

Well, I am tired! Finally finished that last load of laundry, went shopping, and trying to get everything ready for the trip tomorrow. I still have to make a casserole and a dessert to take!~How am I going to find the energy. Possum, do you wanna come and help? Do you know how to make green bean casserole or cherry dump cake?

May 15, 2009 - Msg 72649: Oh yes, "Roseanne". Now there's a winner. (Not) Actually, the show was kinda funny - she said things that a lot of moms are thinking, but after Roseanne herself turned out to be such a scuz, I really don't care to watch her TV show. Every time I see her face, I think of her shameful, disrespectful screaming of the national anthem at that baseball game. It was disgusting, and to the nation's credit, most of the fans were booing her. Personally, I think she should have been escorted from the stadium, preferably in handcuffs, and gagged. In case you've forgotten, you can find it on YouTube. After that, I just can't find any humor in anything she says or does.

Old TV shows? Barney Miller, Carter Country, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Dobie Gillis, Father Knows Best, Gilligan's Island, The Addams Family, The Munsters, Night Court (I know, Dan was just awful, but he was so blatantly awful that he was funny. The original over-the-top concept.) There are many others. I still say, we need to start an emailing campaign to TVLand. Or better yet, maybe we should start emailing some of their sponsors! Now, there's an idea! It shouldn't be hard, they only have about ten sponsors, and they run their commercials over, and over, and over, and over, and well, you get the idea. Anyway, if people start complaining to the sponsors and threaten to stop watching the station, we might get some action.

So are we taking Me-They to Morelli's? I want one of those pounded steaks, and I want to sit by that window into the kitchen, so I can watch.

Well, guess I'd better go feed little Toye Starr. She's walking around in here giving me "the look". She's such a little bitty old thing, and eats such a small amount at a time, I guess she does get hungry easily. Her favorite treat is still a honey-nut cheerio. She crunches and chomps on it like it was a huge biscuit. So funny!

Be blessed, friends. --Romeena

May 15, 2009 - Msg 72650: Well, I'm glad I aint the only one feeling the way I do about Married with Children. When TV Land first came around it was just awesome, they played the old commercials and the good old shows. And now with this newer stuff it just aint the same. And whats with them playing infomercials late at night? Thats another one of my gripes with it too. I think Ro has a good idea, we should email them and request the old shows. I loved Emergency. And still think they are a couple of cute firefighters lol. Looks like we're in for a stormy night, and my Little Bit is already giving me the nudges and pitiful looks guess she's needing some couch time and I'm a sucker for it every time. May 16, 2009 - Msg 72656: Good evening, porch. Just finished watching "Marley and Me" on Pay-per-view. It was definitely worth the $5 charge. Sweet, funny, touching, and at the end, very, very sad. It's inevitable, as any pet parent knows, but it surely does hurt. I was sitting there watching, crying, remembering my Sugarplum, and hugging Toye Starr like she was going to vanish.

Hey, bigdaddy, you're most welcome to join us here on the porch. All of us were newcomers at one time, but now most of us have been here for years - just one big old Mayberry family. Always room for one more, though.

Well, gotta take food to the church for a lunch after a funeral service - one of my friends lost her sister this week, after a very long, bitter illness. It will be a relief to my friend, once she gets past the initial grief. Prayers for Deanna, please.

Also, Joe's heart valve replacement has been postponed at least until Wednesday, while they get his meds and clotting time balanced. He's very anxious, I'll be glad when it's a done deal. His wife, Kathy, is handling it well - I'm proud of her.

Well, I'm off to bed. Have been watching "The Golden Girls" quite a bit lately. I know, Blanche is awful, but again, it's that over-the-top thing, like Dan in "Night Court", and maybe I shouldn't, but I just think they're funny. The fact is, it beats the socks off "Married with Children", or worse yet, "The Cougar."

Be blessed, friends. --Romeena
