July 15, 2011 - Msg 84712: Good Friday morning porch dwellers. Hope and pray you have a good day and a safe weekend.

Nice sweep G-F. You even got the corners.

Boo, thanks for the pics. They came through fine and dandy. You and your family look delightful. And your critters look like a lot of fun. Thelma Lou looks just like I pictured her in my mind.

Possum, wow you guys are cooking. It sure has been a pleasant summer here thus far as far as temps go. We were in the upper 80's yesterday, a nice cool 61 this morning. I spent yesterday working on some a/c units on the roof of one of our buldings. And as expected doing battle with wasps. I try to start early when the temps are cool. The wasps are not very lively. So I can hit them with spray and they don't put up much of a fight. Yesterday I got all the nests I could see early in the day. But I was pulling an a/c unit apart to replace a fan motor and encountered a nest that was hidden. Well it was much warmer, and these guys got pretty mad, so it was game on. Anyone who was driving by and saw me up there swatting away at wasps, and dancing around must have thought I was having a fit if they didn't know the whole story. Dang! No stings, but those things gert old after a while. At one point I had a bit of cotton from a cotton tree float down and land on my ear. Well after fighting wasps all morning thats what I thought it was. I'm sure I looked the fool dancing around and swatting at a cotton ball. :)

Well speaking of an early start. I better get one today. I hope I got rid of them buggers yesterday.
Prayers for all.

Asa

July 15, 2011 - Msg 84713: Thanks, Asa. :) Wish I could have see the "wasp dance"! hehe

Nice morning here..not too hot yet and a little cloudy. They are supposed to finally start our new roof on Monday and we are expecting rain. They brought out the dumpster yesterday for the old shingles and the truck that brought it got stuck in the sand. It took all day and two more trucks to finally get it out. I was really concerned that someone was going to have a heat stroke out there and took them cold water. Felt so sorry for the guys involved.

Got some cooking to do today. My sis-in-law is visiting so we are having a family supper here this evening. I am making my famous lasagna with a big salad and some garlic bread. I also make a chocolate pie and a banana cream pie.

Better get off the porch and onto the chores.

Boo

July 15, 2011 - Msg 84714:
Boy, I see that we have G-F sweeping now!! ha good job.
Not too bad here the last few days. Will be about 104 today. Hope your summer plans are going well.
Asa- we get little buggers called digger wasps. They make little mud nests of only about ten pods, but they really protect them! I get a spray at Ace that shoots about 10 feet, and it gets them good. BTW, can you do that wasp dance whilst hoppin on one foot and saying "hu-u-u-u-p?" haha
Prayers,

July 15, 2011 - Msg 84716: Just so you guys know (in case you want to know), if you look in the dictionary, the word "bugger" is a slang term for sodomite. Just FYI.

Boo

July 15, 2011 - Msg 84717: Boo, somehow I just can't see Steve Irwin(the Crocodile Hunter-RIP) calling a croc or whatever else he was chasing, a "sodomite", when he would say, "little bugger". :)

Asa, glad you didn't get stung. Those wasps(and especially, hornets) can get pretty testy.

-Sterling Holobyte

July 15, 2011 - Msg 84718: Well, Sterling, maybe it's a term of endearment in Australia! :) If you call someone a "bugger" in the UK, you are liable to get a black eye (or an invitation to dinner);)

Where is everyone?? I am in the mood for a pop, a moon pie and some good porch dialogue but here I sit alone again...naturally (anyone remember that song from the 70's)? How about this one: "One is the lonliest number that you'll ever hear?..Two can be as sad as one, the loneliest number since the number one..."

Well, instead of sitting here talking to myself, I guess I will go communicate with the family. See ya tomorrow. :)

July 16, 2011 - Msg 84719: Yeah Boo, I can't believe my post was the last post up there for so long today with nobody else posting, except you. I must be wearing extra-strong porchster repellent today.

July 16, 2011 - Msg 84721: Good morning, porch - and a special good morning to you, Boo! Don't want ya to feel lonely! Thanks for sending those pictures - I can't believe how Erin and Sean have grown! The goats are adorable, and Thelma Lou looks exactly like I thought she would - classic sleepy-eyed, placid donkey. I love 'em! Just gotta meet her one of these days.

My friend Carol is still here, going home to Missouri this afternoon. We've had such a great time. She got me hooked on fruit smoothies, and even went out while I was working and bought me a nice blender. I guess after our experience trying to make them in my food processor (what a mess!), she thought she'd better rescue me. Anyway, I'm grateful, and looking forward to a future filled with smoothies!

Today we're going to have an early lunch at Villa's - it's a Brazilian place here in Irving, priced much more reasonably than the typical Brazilian grill but the food is just as good as the high-priced places in Dallas.

Gonna be another hot one, the birds are already walking rather than flying, and they're holding their beaks open and panting. Poor things. I just try to keep several water sources available for them. Found a dead grackle in the back yard yesterday, though. I guess the heat got him. Or maybe it was just his time. Not even birds live forever, I suppose.

Blessings, everyone! Have a great weekend. --Romeena

possum again

July 17, 2011 - Msg 84731: Well, drat! Tom, you had my hopes up for a minute, though I was a bit confused. To the best of my knowledge, the album site was closed, and had been for about three months. So, I went to the old address, and sure enough - you're right, the old album is there. Everything looks fine from a visitor's point of view. It even let me log in as the "owner" of the album, using my old password, and displayed buttons for all the old management functions. However, when I tried to perform any of those functions, such as loading a picture, all I got was a message telling me the album was closed as of Tuesday, May 3, 2011. So, apparently they just haven't taken it down, and anything that was there before May 3 is still there, but no one can add or delete anything. This comes as a surprise to me - I hadn't even tried to go back to it, because the information I had received was that it would be taken down. I did buy the DVD they offered, that contains all the pictures that were in the album, and I have that. If I ever find another site that I feel like I can trust, I guess I'll try to build another album. However, after this disappointing experience with MyPhotoAlbum, I'm going to have to think about it. Quite honestly, I'm not terribly happy about the thing still being accessible for viewing, and yet I have no ability to remove anything. In my opinion, if it's not manageable, it shouldn't be accessible. This makes me a bit distrustful about putting up another site.

Possum, I got your pictures. They're very good (you're a pretty lady, and Laci is a little doll) and I'd love to be able to share them. I've saved them to my picture program and will have them available in the event that I do start another album. As I said, I have the entire contents of the old album on a DVD, but it wasn't really necessary, because I have a folder called "Porchster Stuff" on my own computer, and all the pictures that are on that DVD are also in that folder. If I do start another album, I won't just transfer the DVD, I'll probably go through my computer's folder and "cherry-pick" what goes in the new one. There are pictures there that for whatever reason, are probably no longer relevant to the porch. I won't delete them, and if the folks involved ever return and want their pictures displayed, I'll be able to do it.

However, I'm really going to have to think about the idea of another album. As I said, I'm not very happy about the old one still floating around out there, but I have no power to remove it. Weird. Kinda makes me think of Facebook, and how things can go viral there and you can't stop it. No, I'm not on Facebook, and that's one of the reasons why.

Well, enough of that -- blessings, everyone! --Romeena

July 17, 2011 - Msg 84732: Hey Ro- Well, dang it! That's pretty messed up about the online album. Thanks for the kind words,by the way. You just hang on to those pics and maybe one day a trustworthy & manageable site will come into play.
Y'all have a good evening!

Hello porch family....The concert went great tonight but I'm off to bed....TIRED
Love and prayers!
-REV.

July 17, 2011 - Msg 84734: Well, here it is 10pm on sunday and I am just getting to the porch. Been one of those days when I wanted to rest but didn't get as much as I had hoped. Preachin' was really good today, though. Hope you all had a blessed weekend...tomorrow is the beginning of a new week and the roofers are supposed to begin the new roof so I guess I will be up bright and early, darn it! ;)

Glad you enjoyed the pictures, Ro. Thelma Lou is really something. I was talking to my friend keith today..his daughter and her family came for supper a couple of months ago and loved the animals. Well, Keith tells me tonight, "John (his son-in-law) is still in love Thelma Lou!"..."We all are," I replied. haha...she's priceless. Our little Elvis seems to be fitting in fine now and I have not seen Raspberry butt him in days. Every now and then Thelma Lou lowers her ears and looks at him like she wants to run over him but that is getting less frequent. So, all is peaceful on the farm and Hank (the dog) isn't chasing Elvis anymore.

Sure has been hot here and no rain in sight.

I noticed a couple of things today watching the color eps of TAGS on TVLand. For one thing i was suprised to see a small guest appearance by a very young Rob Reiner on the ep about Goober's contest at the filling station. Anyone ever notice that? Also, noticed for the first time in the ep about Opie asking Mary-something-or-other to Arnold's birthday party/dance, that mary's friend Iris, is the same little actress that played Lester Scoby's little girl (and a couple of other roles in the series). Anyone notice that but me?

Better get to bed. See you all in the morning with my coffee.

Boo

July 17, 2011 - Msg 84735: Oh, by the way Ro, you mentioned that Sean and Erin have grown. Well, the pictures I sent you were at least a year old..you should see them now! Sean is about 6 inches taller and older looking and Erin is too. Farm life must agree with them because they are really growing.

Boo

July 18, 2011 - Msg 84736: Good Monday morning sleepy heads. Up and at em!

Hey Rev, glad your concert went well. Hope you got a good nights sleep.

Boo, so you got a bunch of fellers in tool belts prancing all over your house today huh? Such goings on. :)

Possum, Too bad the album is no longer there. I'd love to see your reunion pics. Glad you had a good time.

I woke up this morning with my hay fever running wild. Surprised me because the last few weeks it's been pretty low key. Then driving in to work this morning I saw a bunch of farmers cutting their second cut of hay for the year, and then it all made sense.

Well better get. Got another round of wasps to do battle with this morning. And I like to git em when it's still a bit cool.

Asa

July 18, 2011 - Msg 84737: Good luck with the wasps, Asa, and just a little advice for the next time: keep a dose of Benadryl with you when you are fighting wasps or bees and if ever stung, take it right away. You just never know when you might get an allergic reaction. Oh, and as far as guys in toolbelts on the roof, these guys are skinny and missing teeth, so i guess I won't drag out my lawn chair and stare. ;)

The banging (on the roof) begins. :(

July 18, 2011 - Msg 84738: Good Mornin' Porch!

I'm just stopping by for a quick rock to let y'all know I'm alive. I tell y'all if it ain't one thing it's another. We have court cases comin' out of our ears. I was sick with a bad cold last week and we went on vacation. Now I'm focusing on getting the kids ready for school and any odds and ends before I have my 6th ankle surgery on the 3rd. I tell ya, I've had more "help me Jesus" days than I care to. I hope all are well! Be back soon!

Boo- I've also noticed that they use the same actor for many different roles. It makes it seem more like a family to me!

Blessings to you and yours,

It is hot AND humid here today. It's like the preamble to "To kill a Mockingbird!" :(
LUCY! Good to see you. Isnt EVERY day a "help me Jesus" day? ha
OK, just a moment for the soapbox since I've been a good boy lately...but I gotta say that for BO to scare our seniors and soldiers is beyond reprehensible!!! If they give him ANY extra powers as is planned, then why have three branches?? Might as well be a monarchy! OK, box going back under porch, and it's off my chest! (:

Well, have a good day all,

July 18, 2011 - Msg 84740: Ha ha! Good one, MDC! A few of the guys had hair ( or lack thereof) just like Nate Bracey, but that's about it!

Asa,not sure if you can do this around the units you work on,but we have wasps building nests under our deck railings. My hubby throws boiling water on them & kills 'em dead! Not sure if you can use that method around the units you work on,but it is a good way to get rid of them.Just be careful not to burn yourself!

Good to have ya back,Lucy!

Y'all try to stay cool-hot out there!

My end of the porch is getting back to school ready. Beth starts her high school senior year on August 5th ( a Friday of all things) and we are planning to move Patrick to Tenn Tech in Cookeville around August 17. times are a changing on my end of the porch.

better get back to work. lunch menu will be:
roast beef sandwhiches, SLAW, chips, homemade carmel ice cream with pecan sandies on the side.

Please pray for my best friend. She is having a breast biopsy on Wednesday. Thanks

Have a good day! Prayers all around.

July 18, 2011 - Msg 84744: Howdy, porch. MDC, I hear you. Check your email, you'll find a couple of them from me, on the subject you touched on. Most of the rest of you will have them too. We are in deep trouble.

I slept late this morning, since I have to work tonight, but darned if I don't feel another nap coming on. That's one thing about living alone. If I want to let something go undone, and go take a nap, I can. No one to notice but Toye Starr, and she doesn't care.

The roofers had stacked shingles on the driveway at one of the rent houses, so I guess they're working over there, but so far nothing at my house. Don't know about the other rental. I think they're going to do mine last though, so it will probably be another week or so.

Hot, hot, hot here! It's a few degrees cooler than yesterday, but at 95 it's still dang hot! Besides, it will probably hit 100 in an hour or two.

My neighbor/garden center owner/friend John (Joe's brother) has a new granddaughter, born at 24 weeks, weighing 1 lb, 11 oz. She's a little over a week old now, and holding her own, but is by no means out of the woods. Please pray for that tiny little mite to thrive and grow, and have no deficits from being born so "unfinished." Thanks, friends.

Now I'm going to go get a quick nap before going to work. Blessings, everyone. --Romeena

July 19, 2011 - Msg 84747: Morning all. Hope you are all well.

Boo, so you're saying the roofers are no match for yours truely? :) Arntcha kind. That's not a bad idea about the benadryl. I'll do it!

Romeena, Prayers for that little pre-bee. Gosh, so very small.

And prayers for Big Maudes best friend for a clean biopsy.
And for poor Lucy who is getting hammered from every side it would seem. Hang in there. Things will get better Lucy.

No wasp problems yesterday. Was able to complete my job with no roof dancing. Good thing. I ain't up to dancing much on Monday mornings. Possum, I use a spray that shoots about 20 feet Possum, and it kills them pretty quick. But I'll remember that idea about boiling water in case I need it sometime. Thanks for the tip.

Well better get rolling. We have a State Holiday coming up on Monday, and I think I'm gonna take off on Tuesday and make it a 4 day weekend. So I best get my work done so I can enjoy it.

July 19, 2011 - Msg 84754: Asa, a roofer showed up today that's not bad, but it's too darned hot to sit outside and stare.

Boo

July 20, 2011 - Msg 84755: Is it hot? It is hot. Hot, it is. How many ways can I say it? I was outside doing a little light yard work earlier, and absolutely sweated rivers. I don't remember it being this hot when I was a kid. I know it was, the temperatures were over 100 in San Antonio all summer, as I recall, but it just didn't seem as hot. I suppose it's what you get used to. I know many animals, especially parrots and other birds, can withstand temperature extremes, but not if the change comes swiftly. So I guess when we're used to a/c, and go out in the heat, it's just bound to be miserable. I look at the roofers who are working around town (and they are legion) and they seem just fine. They don't even appear to be perspiring. Amazing. One thing I know - I agree with Boo. When they start on my house, I don't care if Mr. Universe is up there slinging shingles, I'm staying inside where it's cool! I'll leave the garage door open, and tell the men they can raid the garage fridge for drinks and water as they please, but I'm staying inside. My mama didn't raise any dummies.

Joe came today and sprayed the weeds in my big flower island and a few spots in the other beds, with 20% vinegar. It's a wonderful herbicide, and works only where it is sprayed on foliage. Once it hits the soil, it becomes inert and actually is beneficial to the soil. I just can't bring myself to use Round-Up or any of the other chemical herbicides. This yard has been organic for so long, but for some reason the weeds have completely overtaken that one flowerbed. My suspicion is that the seeds came in with a load of compost that wasn't quite old enough, not completely finished, so the seeds could still germinate. It's all one kind of weed, which fits with that theory. The exception is the presence of nutgrass, but that miserable stuff is endemic to the world, so I'm not surprised it's there. The 20% vinegar will get it too, though, which is more than can be said for Round-Up.

Well, I guess I'll turn in. See you good folks tomorrow. --Romeena

July 20, 2011 - Msg 84757: Morning all.
Nice cooler morning on my porch. Had a little front come through last night. We are 62 this morning and it feels pretty darn fine.
Ro, you're spot on I think with regards to what our bodies are used too. My job some days requires me to be out in the hot sun all day long, sometimes for weeks on end. And I have found that when I do that, after a few days of it, the heat really doesn't bother me much at all. But if I've been holed up in an air conditioned office for a spell, then forced to go out and work in the heat, it's pretty rough. Same thing in the winter. If I spend a lot of time out in the cold (unless it's windy and cold) I deal with it ok. But when forced to leave a warm office and go out and work, I hate it!
BTW, The vinegar your guy uses. Is it an agriculture rated vinegar or does he just use regular household stuff. Although I have read that Round-up (or Round-up based products) is neutralized the second it hits the soil also, I prefer going with something more eco- friendly. I have heard adding some salt to vinegar will make it even more effective which makes sense I guess. There's a gardener known nationaly by the name of Jerry Baker who uses all kinds of odd concoctions for insectisides and herbisides. Not sure how well it works, but he has a pretty loyal following. You see him sometimes on the PBS stations when they are begging for money.

Well Boo, that roofer couldn't have been all that great if you say it was too hot to sit out and watch him. Either that or your age is catching up to you. :) (jk)

I figured you got dust storms a plenty MDC, being in the dessert and all. But the two I saw reported looked intense. If you say no big deal, then by golly, I'll take your word on it.

Been focusing my daily devotionals as of late on the Sermon on the Mount. Just gotta say, that sermon never gets old. And no matter how many times I read it, I learn something new. Now comes the hard part. Applying it. :)

Y'all have a wonderful day.

July 20, 2011 - Msg 84759: Uh...I don't watch PBS, Asa...it's not my style..., and yes, my age is catching up to me. Of course it could have something to do with that "Sermon on the Mount" you spoke of ("if your eye offends you, pluck it out..").hehe Last year I had a guy-friend who was helping out in the kitchen and I told his wife, "Wow, there is nothing I like to see more than a man cooking in the kitchen," to which he replied, "You want me to take my shirt off, Julie?" and I said, "No, you better not. I don't want to have to pluck out my eye." He quickly replied, "But you can't pluck out your mind's eye!"...haha...I thought that was pretty funny...and kind of true. Watch those thoughts!

Stay cool, Ro.

July 20, 2011 - Msg 84760: Oh hey, almost forgot...I saw the last hour of an old movie with Andy Griffith yesterday on TCM. It was called "Onionhead". Andy played a cook on a coast guard ship during WW2. Anyone seen that one? Not great, but not bad and had a good ending. Andy played a guy who was struggling with his own weakness but did the right thing in the end. He got involved with a married woman who was kind of a tramp but ended up standing strong against her advances in the end and marrying the "nice girl". Wish movies were still that way. The kids need more examples like that.

July 20, 2011 - Msg 84762: Good morning, porch! It's going to be another scorcher here, I guess. Just 84 right now, at 10:25, but it's rising fast. Asa, your cooler temps sure do sound good. You asked about the vinegar Joe used. It's horticultural strength - 20%. Household vinegar is just 5%. This stuff would be pretty caustic, I think. I know the weeds surely don't like it. From my window, I can see nothing but brown, shriveled weeds in that flowerbed, already! There were just a few struggling little half-dead petunias in there, and we just sprayed them too. They'd have been dead from the heat in another couple of days, and it was too hard to try to discriminate, so everything got sprayed. The only exceptions were the clematis behind the fountain rock, and the five little Angel Face roses along the back border. We hand-weeded around them, to provide a safe perimeter, then just sprayed everything else. I have a pump-sprayer, with a line and a little nozzle coming off of it. You pump it up, position the nozzle above what you want to spray, and when you pull the trigger, it releases a drippy spray that falls directly onto whatever's below. It's pretty selective, but still I was careful of my roses and clematis.

REV, I'm so glad that your sweet lady is going to be with you on the remainder of your trip. I'm sure she will enjoy it, and after so many lonely hours on the road, it will be so nice to have her along. I'm happy for both of you. I just wish she could come with you to Texas sometime, I'd love to meet her.

Did I tell y'all I had to buy a new dishwasher? My old one died, after twenty years, so had to be replaced. I hated to lose it, it was really a good unit, a GE and it did a wonderful job. I guess nothing lasts forever though. I had asked Ted to come and see if he could fix it. He said it would cost more to fix it than to replace it, so I asked him to go with me to Lowe's and look at new ones. We found one that had the features I liked, and didn't have the ones I didn't think I'd need. It's about mid-range in their model line. We brought it home in Ted's truck (saved the delivery fee) and he installed it that day. The first time I ran it, I was terribly disappointed. The dishes were far from clean, they were still wet and it was a mess. So, I thought to myself, "Self, Bosch didn't get to be the industry leader by making junk. You have done something wrong." Then I sat down and read the directions and found about five things I had done wrong, including letting something extend below the upper rack, thereby blocking the spray arm, so it just sat there and squirted in one place! Also added some JetDry, as the directions are careful to stress, and paid attention to the sequence of button-pushing at start-up. A couple of other adjustments were indicated as well. Last night I ran another load through, and this morning I had the pleasure of unloading some dry, sparkling clean dishes! They look cleaner than what I was accustomed to from my GE, to my surprise. Oh, and standing three feet away, you have to see if the red "operating" light is on, because you can't hear the thing running! So, bottom line - I love my Bosch! Lesson - there is a learning curve to anything you do.

Well, I'm off. Gonna pick up Eloise and Michelle (Michelle's last week as Eloise's helper) and we're going to get some lunch and mouse around a bit. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

ASA- I see that History Detectives is back on after about a year's hiatus (at least here). Good one last night.
I'll admit, the storms were big, but in comparison, it's like your area and snow, you get it!! Just sometimes more than other times! haha
Also, I admit that Matt 5,6,7 are the toughest to adhere to, but i also see them as Jesus "transitioning" them (and us) from mere "commandment keeping" to also injecting love and meaning to the whole concept! (My 2 cents worth)
Ro-we also had a GE about 20 years, and 2 years ago replaced it with a Kitchen Aid. Love it! It is also amazingly quiet! But i havre heard good things about bosch too.
Well, good day to all,
MDC

July 20, 2011 - Msg 84764: Romeena, Bosch rules! I have gradually switched all my power tools over to Bosch over the last few years. I couldn't afford them when I was just starting out, but they are heads and shoulders above and beyond anything other power tool out there. And I have no doubt their appliances are the same. Porter Cable used to be my tool of choice until I tried a Bosch hammer drill. Holy Toledo, no comparison what so ever! Ya done good!

Asa

July 20, 2011 - Msg 84765: Thanks, Asa. I guess I didn't even know that Bosch makes power tools, but it makes sense. My son has had a Bosch dishwasher for several years, and they love it - as do I, having used theirs when I've been out there in Florida. Of course, they already had the JetDry in it, and I got a quick little tutorial on operating it one day, so avoided the problems I had at first with mine.

The weeds Joe sprayed with vinegar yesterday are dead. Brown, shriveled, dead. Even Round-Up doesn't work that fast! I've got three flats of periwinkles and four flats of pentas lined up on the walkway, waiting to be planted, but I think Joe wants to clear the dead stuff off, then spray again if anything remains that looks remotely alive. Then another couple of days to finish the die-off, then we can plant. Probably be the first of next week before the flowers get in the ground. I'm wondering how they'll do, planting them this late and as hot as it is, but Joe assures me that if I keep them watered well, they'll thrive. He's probably right, because both pentas and periwinkles love hot weather. I guess we'll see. Hmmm. Periwinkle. What a funny word!

Well, I'm a happy camper. My beloved Farmer Boy's market closed a couple of years ago, and today Eloise and I learned that someone has re-opened it, so we went by there. It's open, on a very, very small scale, but we're hoping that with some customer support, it will grow. Anyway, I was able to get some obviously home-grown cucumbers (short, fat, knobby and gray/green - yep, they're home-grown) and some vine-ripened tomatoes. Delish! Then Eloise sent me home with a pile of sliced brisket from one Jerry had cooked, so I've got my supper all set. Guess I'll just go eat! Blessings, friends. --Romeena

July 21, 2011 - Msg 84766: Well, I'm off to bed. Busy day today and ended up having to go get Bruce from the ER. He cut his hand on the job and needed to have it sewn up. He is on a blood thinner and when he cut it (pretty badly while cutting cable), it really bled and he immediately got pale and sweaty and almost passed out, which scared the fellows he was working with. He was soon ok, though. The cut is on the top of his left hand and is over the knuckle of his index finger so it might be pretty sore when he starts moving it. They did give him an antibiotic and pain medicine, so we are good. When I got there, this ER doctor came in and very seriously said, "Your husband told me you got him with a knife...something about forgetting to take out the trash.." hehe...I said, "Well, you know..". I love it when people bring some humor into situations like that.

Better hit the hay. Have to go early and take Sean's friend, Josh, to register for college. :)

July 21, 2011 - Msg 84767: Good morning Dears. Another delightful day on tap.

Boo, sorry Bruce cut him self. I heard he was calling on one of them new fangled miracle drugs to save him. I heard he tore his whole arm right off and sustained a serious injury. Any truth to any of that? :)
HA Ro! See, I never knew Bosch made appliances until just recently. Guess we are just a by-product of our enviorments. I guess I'm gonna have to get me some of that vinegar and try it. Do you know how that horticulture strength compares in price to Round up Ro?

We are having our anual company b.b.q. today. So I plan on making a pig of myself. They put out a pretty good spread and I ain't shy when it comes to good food, so it's a pretty good day all in all. (burp)

Y'all have a good day.

July 21, 2011 - Msg 84773: Good morning, porch! Asa, I paid about $16 for a gallon of 20% vinegar. I don't know how that compares to Round-Up, because I almost never buy it. I do have one little spray bottle of it to pur on the pecan trees that the squirrels plant. Once a pecan tree gets up big enough to see it among the other plants, you can't pull it up. The root will be over a foot long, and the nut is still there too, so they're almost impossible to pull. I just take a cotton swab and paint the leaves with Round-Up and it kills them. The vinegar might do the same thing, haven't tried it. Maybe I will. Ha! I missed one a while back, and when we noticed it, it was nearly four feet tall and the little trunk was thicker than my thumb. No pulling that up! Jorge had to dig it out, and it took some digging. I wouldn't mind having a pecan tree, but the silly little squirrels always plant them where I don't want one - right up close to the house, or under some wires, or in the middle of the rose island. Actually, I guess there's really not a good place around here for another tree. As Joe often says, I'm running out of dirt.

Ted made two more squirrel houses, and brought them by today. He put one up in the tree by the arbor - the only tree that didn't have one. He didn't hang the other one, because I'm not sure where I want it. Actually, I think I want it very high up in a tree that already has one lower down, but it's going to take Rumaldo Sosa and one of his climbers to hang that one. Nobody has a ladder that tall, and if they did, I would be too afraid to let them climb it in my yard just to hang a squirrel box.

Boo, I heard that after Bruce's arm got torn off at the shoulder, the knife slipped and hit his foot, and he lost all his toes. I sure do hope he's doing okay!

Well, guess I'll round up a little lunch. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

July 21, 2011 - Msg 84774: Hey everyone, Its me passing by again.
Goober-Fife, We do have Dr. Enuf around my end of the porch. Johnson City is about 20 minutes from me. I don't particularly care for Dr. Enuf, tastes like medicine to me! My kids and husband like it though. I just bought some this past week end for them.

BOO, sure hope Bruce will be okay, sounds awful...no toes. Guess he won't need the shoe salesman.

Big Maude

July 21, 2011 - Msg 84775: That's "put" on the pecan trees. Good grief. Oh, and Tom, I'd send you a big glass of iced tea, but I think the ice would melt before it gets to you! --Romeena

July 21, 2011 - Msg 84776: Actually, Ro, when Bruce dropped the knife it hit his toes, bounced up and hit the gun he was wearing and he shot himself in the chest. I think he's dead, but he is probably just asleep in the recliner. ;) You folks are so funny, you make my day.

Stop eatin' Asa! You wanna make a fool outta yoreself? You want your face to freeze that-a-way?

Dr. Enuf?! Stupid name for a soda, isn't it. Now, maybe "Dr. Can't-Get-Enough" would be more appropriate.

July 22, 2011 - Msg 84782: Good Friday friends. Hope it's a great one for all.

Poor Bruce, Boo, does he even know we got him dead and buried over a 2 bit cut finger? :) For he was a jolly good fellow.....
And I about fell out of my chair when you said you watched Home Alone yesterday. The Mrs. and I watched that Saturday night. I thought I was the only odd one who watched Christmas movies in July. So do you like "Angels with Filthy Souls" as much as we do? hee hee hee.

Gosh Ro, that vinegar is way cheaper than Round Up. R.U. is $44.00 a quart (for the super concentrate) Does your guy spray the vinegar on straight, or does he mix it with water, and if so what is the mix rate? I'm just curious at how it all adds up in the end. Thanks for any info you can share.

Hope everyone is keeping there cool in the heat.

Better get going. More wasps to deal with today as I have a new a/c unit to work on, blasted things.
