On the lighter side, you may want to ask him how many of those jalapeno What-A-Burgers he's been eating. (Just trying to lighten your load a bit).

May 30, 2012 - Msg 88790: Speaking of lightening the load, MDC, I unloaded about 200 lbs of sister-in-law from my conscience and I feel marvelous. ;) I don't think Sean would go near a jalepeno but he hasn't been eating right, which is going to have to change. I was told in the ER that they avoid CT scans on kids because of the high radiation dosage. They try to rule out other things before doing the CT. It might be needed at some point.

Morning SPOT. I have the paper..see ya at Waffle House.

G-F, remember, when all else fails, just smile. When the ex tries to yank your chain, just smile. No matter what she says or does, or what anyone else does for that matter, just look at them and smile, very sweetly. It will drive them nuts, and it will keep you from saying anything you'll regret later. Always take the high road. As you said, it's Kristy's day. Just keep that in mind and you can't go wrong.

Well, I think I'll turn in. I've got a chance for a good night's sleep, and I'm going to take it. Toye Starr will be bored, but she'll get over it. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

May 31, 2012 - Msg 88815: Good advice for G-F, Ro. "Always take the high road" is one of my favorite expressions and I try to live by it.

Anybody see the news about the homeless man who had his face eaten off in Florida? And you thought you had problems. I think we can all feel thankful today that at least we weren't eaten by a drug-addicted zombie, right? I am sipping me Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea and shouldn't be talking about flesh-eating zombies. Interestingly, though, the police stated that they have seen a few similar cases of psychosis caused by a drug referred to as "bath salts"...not to be confused with Calgon...it makes some people crazier than a bat and aggressive, they feel no pain and tasers don't phase them. Kind of sounds like one of those old movies we used to see at the drive-in when i was a kid, doesn't it? As long as the drugs get worse and the world gets crazier, just let someone try to take away my right to bear arms!

Sean was still feeling sick this morning so I am taking him back to the doc tomorrow. I think I have a good idea after doing some research, that it might be stress-related...something to do with his anxiety disorder. I will let you know what we will try next. I am helping him to cope with stress and getting him to eat better, etc.

Hey, that sleepytime tea is working...now if I take a melatonin, I should be in for a fine night's sleep...if only I didn't always wake up before dawn.

Goodnight,
Boo

Good for you G-F. Keep that smile on your face and focus on your blessings. :)

Wow, that Sleepytime tea worked wonders for me last night. For the first time in months I was able to sleep in until the sun came up. I am feeling a little drowsy, though, unfortunately.

Frankie

June 01, 2012 - Msg 88822: Good afternoon, porch! G-F, my prayers are with you, buddy. That's a difficult hand to play, but I'm delighted to see that you're trying to see the "other" side of it too. You are so right. Here's the situation. Divorce is never a happy thing, it always brings challenges - more in some cases than in others. However, if all involved can behave like adults and be as kind as possible, it doesn't have to be horrible. Even if there's one in the cast that behaves unreasonably, that one can be short-circuited if everyone else just smiles and walks away and lets their bad behavior hang there for all to see. Don't obscure it by any response other than a sweet smile. The truth is, divorce happens. It has happened in my family, and probably in just about everyone else's too. The more kids you have, the more likely it becomes, it seems to me. It's never pleasant, but it can be made tolerable, and even almost-pleasant when those involved work at it. Think about how you would feel if your daughter and her step-dad didn't get along. Viewed through that lens, it's a nice thing that she wants to include him. After all, he's part of her life, and I'm glad he's a positive part, someone she feels good about. Well, that's my two cents' worth.

Now I'm going to have a big glass of iced tea and cuddle little Toye Starr a bit, then Eloise and I will go play bunco tonight. Tomorrow, my grandson comes for a visit, bringing his fiancée to meet me. I'm really looking forward to this - I know she must be a lovely person if he loves her.

Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 01, 2012 - Msg 88823: Boy, its hot here in south texas already! June first and it comes on with a vengeance...but at least we aren't in the triple digits like MDC.

Had a funeral to go to and then took Sean to the doc again. The doc and I seem to think it has to do with stress...maybe irritable bowel so we are making some dietary changes, learning ways to cope with stress, getting some exercise and adding a medication that help relax the bowls a little. If he isn't better in a week, then will have to see the GI doc. I think things will get better. With sean's anxiety issues I am remembering alot of things about how he was before he was on meds...lots of nauses and tummy trouble. Bless his heart, things are going so well for him otherwise. The doctor even told him that he can tell that in so many ways he is doing better than a year ago and Sean agreed. He said he would be just great if he could get rid of the stomach trouble.

Well, I am cooling off and having a glass of water before I go out and feed Bernie and his brood (and Thelma Lou).

I are y'all doing? What I've been able to catch up on the archives, no big catastrophe's. That's good!

Boo, I saw Faces in the Crowd for the first time today. I was a bit surprised. I hope Sean feels better soon!
G-F, my motto in dealing with my husband's ex is to kill her with kindness. As a southern girl this is practically taught from birth. I'm as sweet as can be for the kids, but when they aren't around I hold my own. This is your daughter's day and no matter what she asks of you then do it with a smile. When it's over you can rant and rave til the cows come home! Just have a good time. :)
Hazel, I like the leg of lamb comment! That's one of Otis' first appearances.
Romeena, I hope your grandson's future wife is a grand addition to your family!
MDC, Happy Retirement!
Rev, safe traveling! Have fun with our matriarch.
Hey to all!

Sorry for my absence! We have been busy with Nick (my bonus son) graduation, homeschooling, and spring cleaning. My bonus daughter is visiting her grandparents in Pheonix and nick is busy working, as is husband, so it's just my 14 year old and I trying to organize the house and still do a little schooling. Y'all take care and I'll check in again when I'm finished cleaning.

June 02, 2012 - Msg 88834: Where's Ro? I've been missing her. I hope she wasn't injured at BUNCO last night! ;)

Boo

June 03, 2012 - Msg 88835: Ha! No, I wasn't, but for a moment I thought I might be. I sat there and rolled three - count 'em, three - five counts in a row, one right after the other. A five-count is when you roll three of a kind, not in the suit you're playing. For example, if you roll three fours and you're rolling for sixes, you get five points. If they're all three sixes, then that's a bunco, worth 21 points. Mine were not buncos but, the fifteen points they earned us won that round for us.

My grandson is here, with his fiancée, and she's delightful. Great sense of humor, just came in and made herself at home, and I just love it when someone will do that. I took them to dinner at the Brazilian grill, and it was so good! We'll all go to church in the morning, and then probably at some point tomorrow will go get some Babe's fried chicken. (Sorry, REV.) We might get to see one of the little grandsons' baseball games, too. Depends on how their tournament went tonight.

Boo, I'm so sorry Sean is still feeling so bad. Has he been checked for gluten intolerance? My neighbor's older daughter has had "tummy troubles" and a weight problem for most of her life. Finally, a couple of years ago, some savvy doctor diagnosed gluten intolerance and put her on a gluten-free diet. She has slimmed down to a beautiful size, and has no more abdominal pain or other distress. Just a thought....

Well, guess I'd better hit the ironing board. Blessings, all. --Romeena

Good thought RO for boo to check into. Also Boo, have you checked the internet. You say you can't do anything to help him, but there must be some options. Maybe something called a thermagram would be good, no harmful radiation to it.
Also, it's Cecile, not Camille. If I took out a Camille, I'd be in BIG trouble! haha (:
LUCY- good to see you. Hope all went well.
Big Maude-good to see you too. Wow, an empty nest. hang in there girl.

June 03, 2012 - Msg 88837: Idle hands are Lucifers work tools. Boy oh boy, MDC is only retired 2 days and he's already getting himself into trouble by going out with "Camille". tsk tsk tsk, such goings on! (jk MDC and Boo) Congrats on the retirement MDC. I hope you enjoy many years of hopefully a more leisure life.

Boo, gosh I hope Sean gets feeling better soon. You folks are in my prayers for sure.

Rev, hope you had a nice visit with your old friend. I imagine he looks a lot older. Sure is nice you ain't changed. :)

Hope things went well yesterday for you G-F. It's hard to see them little girls grow up and see them get married off. At least it was for me. But both of mine married well and have given me two fine sons in-law that have been wonderful additions to our family. And of course have blessed us with 6 (and counting) beautiful, wonderful Grandkids.

Hey to Lucy. Sounds like you got plenty ggod going on.

Ro, I know nothing about Bunco, but it sounds like you were all over it.

Well better get moving.
Prayers for all.

Asa

June 03, 2012 - Msg 88838: HAHA...I know you're married to Cecile, MDC, I don't know who in the heck Camille is either! No telling where that came from. To answer your question, yes, I have done some internet research that has helped, thanks for the suggestions.

Ro, someone mentione gluten to me yesterday so we will try that, thanks. I have also been hearing about a book called "Wheat Belly" that people with tummy trouble are finding helpful. I'm going to see if I can find it on Amazon. Yesterday was not a good day because the nausea continued throught the evening. It got better, but never really left and that caused more stress, which led to more tummy trouble, etc. He is sleeping now but we were up until nearly 2am working on a puzzle and drinking warm tea trying to get him relaxed enough to go to sleep. He is just obsessing over the thought of waking up each morning sick as a dog and that doesn't help.

Thanks for those prayers, Asa. I sure have some good, caring friends/family here on the porch. I know we all have our load to bear and we go through tough times. Some of you never complain or mention them but I know they are there. I pray the Lord be with each of us and give us grace and strength.

Have to go take a "care basket" to a friend who lost her husband last week. I put together some things that might help a bit. Made something light (chicken salad), crackers, some nuts and dried fruit, my homemade jelly and banana bread, a little chocolate, and a Chicken Soup for the Soul book. After my dad died, a friend put a similar basket together for me and it was really nice because at a time like that you might not feel like eating a big meal but you can snack a little throughout the day to keep yourself going.

Well, hope you all have a pleasant sunday. Slow down...relax....what's yer hurry?

Boo

June 03, 2012 - Msg 88839: Well gang, Happy to say the wedding went GREAT everybody acted like somebody! The wedding was outdoors and the weather was perfect! Even tho I had to "share" walking her down the isle, she had picked Neil Diamonds "Marry Me" (Goob is a ND fan so it was neat that she picked that one). I did not have to share the part where the Rev asked: "Who gives"? my response was "Her Mother & I"..I was not being fecious..just hate being fecious, but it was the way it should be said!
As for the Father Daughter dance...Old Goob was no Fred Astaire but did not embarass her to much I guess,+ even even did a couple of twirrls too!
She had picked out the song "I Hope you Dance" by Leeann Womack which has special meaning to the both of us, so she did her Daddy proud!
Thanks for the prayers ya'll they were TRUELY felt! Asa you're right, it is hard to see them grow up but I glad to see her happy she deserves it!....Did I mention how BEAUTIFUL she looked? Or was it just me being the braggin Dad?..G-F..:)

June 03, 2012 - Msg 88840: Great news, G-F. I'm so glad everything went well. As for her beauty, I'm pretty sure it was a bit of both options you mentioned. Good on you, for having the sweetness of spirit to share her day with her stepdad - I'm convinced that it's a blessing when a step situation goes well, because no one wants their child to have to live in an unhappy environment. I'm happy to say, that my grandchildren who have a stepdad consider him to be a great guy (and he is) and their take on it is that they just got a bonus. Can't ask for more than that, I guess.

Well, got to put a little lunch on the table for grandson and fiancée, and then we're going to try to catch up with some of younger grandsons' baseball games. Should be fun. Blessings! --Romeena

My stomach is starting to give me fits from the stress! This is about the most difficult thing I have been through in years. It's just relentless and the medicine doesn't help.

Thanks for the encouraging words, auh2o. We all go through really tough times with our children, I know. :)

June 04, 2012 - Msg 88848: Good morning, porch. What a great day we had yesterday! Grandson and his precious girlfriend and I drove out to Burleson - a lovely little town south of Ft. Worth - and met Dave and Brittney and some of their (my) baseball friends at the Babe's out there and ate waaay too much fried chicken. Then we went to watch Hudson play a tournament game, a real cliffhanger, which they won with a beautiful triple play right at the end. After that, we came on home but Hudson had one more game, which they lost. That makes them the second-place team in the Pony League tournament for the state of Texas, so they have nothing to be ashamed of. They got a trophy, pictures, all the fun. Being in second place behind the team that's first is still an honor, because that first-place team is spectacular. These little 8-year old boys can really play ball - it's amazing, and so fun to watch. Anyway, we came home and finished off some of the chicken we couldn't eat at lunch, and then turned in. What a day!

Boo, I'm really getting concerned about Sean, and obviously, you're about at your wit's end. Nothing can worry you like a sick child. Have they done any testing for parasites? Has he been anywhere that he might have come in contact with such as that? I'm thinking of that trip to the Frio. How was the river? If it was shallow and warm and moving slowly, there would have been some risk there, though I've never heard of anyone getting sick from that river. My family has played there for many years, but things do change.

I think MDC is right, it's time for some serious investigation. I know that's where you're headed today, and if you meet with disinterest, then rise up, Mama Bear, and roar.

Well, the kids will be looking for breakfast soon, and I promised them pancakes, so guess I'd better get dressed and get in the kitchen. Blessings, everyone! --Romeena

Boo, so sorry to learn about Sean's health issue. The symptom checker over at WebMD.com might help you self-diagnose his problem or at least give you some ideas. Click on the link below

June 04, 2012 - Msg 88850: Hey gang...busy on my off day...who is gona cook tonight?...SPOT

June 04, 2012 - Msg 88851: Thanks, PH, I have been reading some things on WebMD and found it helpful.

Sean and I were up all night and he was so sick this morning that we ended up taking him to the ER but a different one this time, thinking someone would do something for him but they didn't. We took him to the children's hospital, which is a very good ER, but since he didn't have a pediatrician, they just sent him home. We weren't able to get a dr that practiced there to see him as a patient at all. I am just exhausted and sick about what to do now. Bruce just drove to our family dr's office to talk to him and see what we can possibly do next. Keep praying, please. This is really taking a toll on us.

Boo

June 04, 2012 - Msg 88852: Back to the dr's office in the morning. I pray we can get some answers for Sean. This stress is making my stomach hurt, too! I am trying not to be a woos but my stomach is betraying me. I took a nap but could only sleep for a little while. My reaction to all of this has me puzzled. I thought I was stronger than this but I have really been struggling with it. Hope I can sleep tonight.

June 04, 2012 - Msg 88853: Boo, First of all I am so sorry that y'all are dealing with all of this! When my husband and I had troubles a few years ago I was the same way. It's your adrenals that are taxed by stress which is caused by anxiety. It is a horrible feeling. I would vomit and/or have chronic spastic colon. This went on for months. Finally, things calmed down, but this is what I did to survive. First, lick salt from my hand. You lose a lot of sodium and electrolytes when you lose a lot of fluids. Penta water will work but Gateorade is just sugar water which leads to more ups and downs. Make him smoothies with fruit, nut butter, and raw (if you can get it) milk. Don't worry about him not eating as long as he drinks. Take magnesium, seratonin, ashwaganda, 5htp, and flax (I can't do fish oils). I'm not sure if these supplements will affect his other meds but that's what I took. Last, find out what calms him and do it with him. Praying with him, reading, listening to Jeff Foxworthy, or listening to the vacuum or hair dryer. This is just what worked for me. I would also find out about parasites, tumor, etc. If there's anything else you need please ask!

G-F, glad the wedding was a success!

Blessings,
Lucy

June 05, 2012 - Msg 88854:
Boo- Unconsiousable that those hopitals did that! Wow! Wont they even admit him for observation? Do you have a Mayo clinic there?
They would see him I bet. My prayers continue for your whole family! Jesus please help Boo's whole family this day, and please heal Sean. Thank you Jesus. Amen.
Love,
MDC

June 05, 2012 - Msg 88855:
Boo-Hope this is not advice overload but could it be anxiety causing GERD which can then lead to nausea?

auh2o

June 05, 2012 - Msg 88856: Thanks for that advice, Lucy. I am thinking it could be a combination of stress/anxiety and could also have been aggravated by taking Advil a month ago when he had a bad cold. Sometimes advil does this sort of thing to people, too.
I took him to the doc this morning and he had lost more weight. The doc scheduled him to see a gastro doc at the children's hospital on the 11th. He gave him something different for nausea and said if he is unable to keep any fluids down to go back to the ER because they would admit him for dehydration if that happens and since he is already scheduled to see a dr there, there shouldn't be a problem. So far this morning, he seems to be feeling alot better and is able to sip fluids and eat ice with just minimal stomach upset. Maybe things are getting better and we will find out more on the 11th.

No Auh2o, I never mind advice. :) I guess anything is possible. I have been giving him prilosec when he can take it these last couple of weeks, thinking it might help with the morning nausea. He did say that when he throws up now he doesn't notice the acid.

Well, so far today is a better day so we will take it one day at a time. Thanks for those prayers! They are felt.

Boo

June 05, 2012 - Msg 88857: Boo, hopefully Sean just had a case of stomach flu or something. Glad he is feeling better, and hope you can get some rest from it all.

Yes, I know I have been away for an insanely long amount of time, and I am sorry for that. I've been taking care of Noah(he is doing fine and growing like a weed), looking for a night job now, and spending a lot of time on an free animation site I found. Other than that, I've just been playing Mr. mom and trying to keep this house from being in its perpetual state of junkyness(?).

I'd like to ask for your prayers even though I may not have the right to ask them of you.
As you may have heard, we have an election here in Wisconsin today(which we shouldn't even be having, IMO). And though you may not want to pray for a certain candidate, maybe just pray that people get out and vote, as it is extremely important for our state.
Now for my personal opinion, I think Scott Walker has done a lot of good things for this state, and I would like to see him stay in as Governor(as well as his Lt. Governor, Rebecca Kleefisch). It seems the only people who don't like him are the union bigwigs and union members who agree with everything the unions funnel their dues money to, as well as the democrats who get alot of that money.
I am praying that he stays in, as he is pro-life, and holds most of the views that one would expect of a Christian to hold. That, and he is a fighter who has shown he has the backbone to take on and not be intimidated by special interest groups, no matter how powerful they are. We need more politicians like that. Romney would do well to consider Walker for his VP slot as well.

Well, that is enough politics for now. Please pray for our state, because if Walker is re-elected, I expect there to be more protests and possibly even riots from the losers. But good things do not come easy.

Has anyone heard anything about Jim Nabors? I know he was having heart surgery and couldn't make it to the Indianapolis 500 this year, but I haven't read anything as to how he is recovering.

-Sterling Holobyte(the prodigal poster)

June 05, 2012 - Msg 88858: Sterling, if you are playing the "prodigal poster" we will play the forgiving father and welcome you home with open arms. Let's kill the fatted calf and celebrate!:) Sounds like you have certainly been busy. We ladies (and some of you men) know just how much time it takes to care for baby and home. Prayers for your state.

I had not heard about Jim Nabors but I think I will google him and see what I can find out. Hope you come back soon, Sterling.

June 05, 2012 - Msg 88859: Sterling, I just read on his official site that he is home recovering nicely.

Boo

June 05, 2012 - Msg 88860: Well, how-do, Sterling! It's nice to see you after such a long absence. We miss you!

Boo, I think we're all praying for Sean, that some answers will become obvious, as well as solutions. Those prayers include you and Bruce as well, because you are undoubtedly at the end of your strength. Hang in there, friend. Surely this will pass.

Well, I have one more shift to get through tomorrow night, then will be off until the surgery next Thursday. After that, I'll be off for about three months. I already know it's going to be very difficult to return to work, but I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I'm really anxious to get this done. Last night was just miserable. The bone spurs and vertebral displacement are pushing my head down and to the side, and it's very uncomfortable. It feels like some giant hand is trying to just pull my head off. I get very tired, and want nothing more than a place to lean back and take the strain off my neck. Please pray that the upcoming surgery is the right answer and will correct the situation. I'm confident that it is, but prayers are always in order.

It's 96 outside right now, and the birds are already walking more than flying, beaks open, looking miserable. What will it be like in August? I just turned on a sprinkler zone, using my handy-dandy little remote thingy, so now the rotors on one side of the yard are sweeping their long plumes of water over their area. I'm amazed at the response I got from the wildlife. As the streams swept over the flowerbeds and shrubs, birds came scurrying out from everywhere - not to escape, but rather just to squat in the grass and fluff up to receive the shower. Some flew out, some walked or hopped, but they all ended up perched somewhere where they could catch the water. A squirrel was "squirreling" around in the rose island, and he just pauses as the water sweeps over him with each pass, then resumes his explorations. I just love it. This window was a gift from God, for sure, because I get to observe so many wonderful things.

Well, guess I'll go play with Toye Starr and cuddle her a bit. She's feeling a little pitiful since Gary and Elaine left yesterday. They both played with her and gave her a lot of attention, and she's missing them. Ol' Mommy is kinda boring, you know. Blessings, friends! --Romeena

June 05, 2012 - Msg 88861: Thank you, Boo. I haven't checked out Jim's site for a while, I should do that. I've always wanted to meet "Gomer". Maybe someday I will get the chance.

Thank you, Ro.
I was just thinking. My brother has had problems with his back and he bought one of those "gravity inversion" things that you lay on and flip upside-down to get the pressure off the back and neck. Apparently it helps him. You may have already thought of it, and it may not be the kind of therapy you need, but I thought I would throw that out there. Hope you get to feeling better.

Well, I am waiting for my wife to get home so that we can go out and vote. Some of the reports of possible voting shenanigans from the other side are just disturbing.

June 05, 2012 - Msg 88862: Btw, my belated condolences to George Lindsey's family. I was sad to see him go.
And, though not related to TAGS, Richard Dawson as well.

June 05, 2012 - Msg 88863: Dear, sweet Romeena, I am so sorry about your neck and back trouble. It is a serious situation but I can't help but wonder if, after what you described, you might benefit from hanging in the closet? ;) ~trying to make you feel a little better~ I will most certainly be praying for your upcoming surgery. I wonder if you have a laptop because I am thinking about how when you are off ofr those months, you might be able to visit the porch if you have to be lying down for awhile.

Well, today was a very good day. Sean was able to drink and keep fluid down and the terrible nausea seems to have subsided, praise the Lord. No food yet...just clear liquids for now but my, what a difference a day makes. Thank you for your outpouring of concern and for your prayers. I love my porch family.

Boo-Awesome news! One foot in front of the other buddy.

Hey Sterling!

Romeena-I have always loved reading your window stories. Maybe, because we do the same here. We had a big black squirrel, 3 small red squirrels, and 2 big gray squirrels running around like a bunch of kids today.

STERLING! Good to see you guy! Hope all is well on the homefront, and that Kai is good too.
As long as you mentioned politics, the ONE thing the constitution specifically calls for, "provide for the national defense", the current admin is steadily dismantling. Man, I know I have said this before, but this upcoming NOV. may be the most important month since July of 1776!
BOO- glad things are better today. I was VERY concerned about his hydration! I bet a bag of ringers IV or whatever that hydrating solution is, would do him good!
RO-Maybe the head brace AND some elixer! ha
God bless all my porch friends.

June 06, 2012 - Msg 88866: Morning all.

Boo, sure glad to hear Sean is feeling a bit better. I hope today is better than yesterday even. I have heard that the syrup used to make coke can be really soothing to an upset tummy. If you can find someone who carries that, you might want to try it, should he take a turn back.

Good to see you Sterling. I am glad to see how the election turned out in Wisconsin, despite all of the "outside influence" that was being used. It gives me hope for November.

Ro, I'd be honored to add extra prayers for you and your upcoming surgery. I'm sure you will recover fine and get back to feeling good. And Toye Star will be over joyed to have you home for a while I bet.

Hiya auh2o. Good to see you posting.

Boy, we sure are having some temperature changes here. Monday it was in the upper 90's. Yesterday it dropped to the upper 50's for an afternoon high. This morning it's flirting with frost. It better not wipe out my corn!

Well better get moving.

TOM

June 06, 2012 - Msg 88868: Good morning, porch! Wow, Sterling and auh2o both? So good to see you fellers! Now, if Me-They would just come home....

auh2o, I became familiar with black squirrels during the two years my parents lived in Battle Creek. There is a huge colony of them up there, apparently the descendents of a few pairs that one of the Kelloggs (or was it the Post family - one of those cereal families) imported from Europe and released on their estate. They are absolutely beautiful - they're big, with glossy jet-black fur, and huge fluffy tails. My dad would put popcorn out on the window ledge outside the sunroom every morning, and it was just hilarious to watch the squirrels come up and perch on the ledge and stuff themselves. Beautiful creatures.

Tom, you hang in there, buddy, and continue to insist that the family take some responsibility where your stepdad is concerned. All too often, family members are all full of advice and suggestions, but they're not willing to participate. Your point is a good one - the wheelchair may be a fine thing, but who is going to end up pushing it? Outside, in rough terrain, yet? You hang in there, insist they cover the cost if they want him to have it, and then tell them that you will expect them to come over and take him for "walks", with them pushing. You have to consider your own health, remember. In other words, to put it bluntly, insist that they put up or shut up.

Thanks, everyone, for the prayers for my upcoming surgery. And thanks to those who have suggested the inversion table. Eloise has one (Jerry has back troubles) and I have considered it, especially for the lumbar spine issues. I'm not sure it would help much with my neck. However, I'll have to get my cardiologist's opinion first. With a pacer and the bad valves in my heart, I would want to be sure that the gravitational reversal wouldn't cause a problem. As for the neck thing, I think the problem began with arthritis, which led to bone spurs, which have pushed the vertebrae out of place, and the scoliosis which I've had all my life (but never bothered me) is now getting worse and contributing to the problem. There again, the inversion table might help. After I get past this surgery, I will be exploring that. If the doc okays it, and I find that it helps, I'll probably get one of my own. Can't be "hanging around" at Eloise's all the time!

Boo, I'm so glad Sean is feeling better. I can't believe I didn't think about coke syrup, and am so glad Asa mentioned it. I've used it with my kids years ago, and it really does work very well. One of our pediatricians many years ago would recommend it, and it does work, much of the time. Not a bad thing to just keep on hand.

Well, David just arrived, bringing the grandsons. They're out of school now, their mom is out of town for a couple of days, and David is working, so they'll stay with me today. He'll pick them up in time for me to get a little nap in before I go to work tonight. Last night -- whoopeeee! Anyway, it will be a fun day. They're good kids, no trouble at all, and funny as all get-out! I think I may load them and Toye Starr up and go up to Petsmart. The miserable bird got one of my koi a few weeks ago. The one that was Landry's is still there, thank goodness. Hudson has never had one of his own, and the pond can support another one, so I think maybe we'll go select one for him. Landry's (Goldie) is getting so big, and is just beautiful. He's at least 8-9" now, and growing fast. Started out at about 5 inches. He's starting to swim with that graceful, flowing, undulating motion so typical of koi. When they're small, they just dart around like goldfish, but as they grow, their swim pattern changes. So pretty.

Well, better get busy. Blessings! --Romeena
