March 17, 2018 - Msg 109450: Asa...I have used the Shark Bites but as we say in the Maintenance World “The jury is still out on their longevity” but they SURE come in handy where you can’t drain the lines entirely...So I would have the same concern for the PVC ones.
On the other hand a application like MDC has it may be a quick easy fix since there is not as much digging required.

March 17, 2018 - Msg 109453: Yea GF, I have never seen them before for PVC. I might be reluctant to use it on a supply line, although Ewing says it is good to 160 PSI. But yes, we are always a bit skeptical. That being said, I have used shark bites on copper lines more and more and have been quite pleased for the most part. I have had one failure, and that wasn't on the o ring but rather on the spring bites. For some reason they would not grip tight. But that has been the only failure in a couple of dozen times I have used them. I still solder when I can, but when trying to repair an existing line and trying to get the water out completely to be able to solder, that's when I will stick in a shark bite valve and go from there.

We gotta storm moving in here also Spot. Rain only I hope though.

March 18, 2018 - Msg 109456: Evening to the porch! Briscoe Darling Jr.

March 18, 2018 - Msg 109457: Good evening, porch, and howdy to We don't see you around here very often, but you're always welcome.

My faithful old microwave, a Sharp Carousel, 2.2 cu ft and 1200 watts, is ailing and needs to be put out to pasture. It's 16 years old, and has never given me any trouble at all until recently. It's not malfunctioning, it's just tired. Today I was heating up a package of frozen pulled pork. The directions called for 2-3 minutes on high. It took 5 minutes, and I still found some small frozen chunks, had to stir it up and give it another two minutes. I think it's no longer producing 1200 watts. Also, some of the "lines" of light in the display are dark, making it hard to read the numbers when only parts of them are there. I've read up on fixing that, and am quite certain it's above my pay grade. When it starts talking about soldering things, I'm finished.

So, I ordered a new one from Lowe's, which arrived with a damaged door - two small but visible dents. Took it back to Lowe's, would have accepted a decent discount, but all they would do was 10%, which I refused and just left it with them, for a refund. So now they can discount it 30% and put it on the infamous "slight damage" shelf in the back of the store. Dummies.

I've been exploring online, and am finding a lot of bad reviews, not only on the Sharp (which I prefer) but on all brands. Anybody got any ideas? It has to be big (there's a reason) - 2.2 cu ft is ideal - and strong, 1200 watts preferred. I'd prefer to pay under $200. The one I returned was $189.

We've had some rain over the weekend. I wish I had gotten the beneficial nematodes sprayed on my back yard before the rain, but oh well. I'll get that done next week. The grub worms have invaded a section of the back yard, just off the patio, and the grass is just gone. Diesel comes in with muddy feet every time he goes out. It's grubs, and the nematodes will get them, but not as long as they're sitting in a little container in the garage fridge. It's amazing how well they work when they're given a chance.

Well, guess I'll go rustle up a little supper. Toye Starr is telling me she's hungry too, so I suppose I'd better feed her. Sweet little old thing. Last night at Eloise's house, I was sitting on the sofa, and Toye Starr climbed up and sat on my shoulder for a while, then finally just curled up on a little ball, on my shoulder still, and went to sleep. Her little head was nestled in my hair close to my ear, and I could hear her soft breathing. I didn't want to move! Mercy, how I love that little four-legged angel! God sent me a blessing when I found her.

Well, good night, porch. Remember to talk to God for a little while before you go to sleep, and listen while He talks to you. --Romeena

March 18, 2018 - Msg 109460: Hello Briscoe Darling Jr.
Romeena, I had to replace my microwave about two weeks ago. It was old and was ready to go.
I went over to Wal-mart and purchased a Hamilton Beach and have been very happy with it. It is a 900 watts and is just right for us. And the price was great!
You all have a nice evening.

March 19, 2018 - Msg 109462: ROMEENA--why not go to Lowes and see if it's on the 30% discount shelf!? ha
We had an Emerson for years. Worked great, was made in Taiwan. Last year we got a new GE profile with convection feature. Love it.
Regarding the nite prayers, I start whilst laying down, but I never seen to finishz-z-z-z. ha
Can't believe that Sunday is Palm Sunday already!

ASA and GF---I think I will pass on the shark bites for now, but...Success! That is, i was able to file down the center 'stop' in a sleeve today. It wasnt easy, but i have a good 1/2 round file that fit perfectly, but first I put down two layers of duct take about a 3/8 of an inch into the sleeve so as not to file down the near edges. Put it in a vice and went to work. Regarding the actual break, I have removed all of it, so there is about 1/4 inch gap, and one side has plenty of dirt removed to allow for flexing the pipe upward. Will let you know if it works. I know I have to do it quickly. Planning to do it monday.

SPOT--good race today but no '4-peat' for Harvick. Good basketball today too!
Good to see briscoe.
BOO-- how goes the laundry?? haha

March 19, 2018 - Msg 109463: Good Monday morning all. My goodness, them weekends just fly by.

MDC, I think that is a wise choice for a supply line. Good luck on the repair. Let us know how it goes. Just don't glue yourself to the pipe buddy. lol

Romeena, Isn't it a pain trying to replace electronic things now days? A number of years ago we bought a Sony portable DVD player. I use it just about every night to watch a show or two in bed. I use earbuds so as to not bother the Wife. Well after years of good service, it recently started acting up. It would start freezing the picture, and was just being ill mannered in general. So I decided to go ahead and buy a new one. Of course, the one I have is no longer available, so I finally settled on a different make unit (Sylvania). It has been garbage. Very cheaply made, the battery refuses to charge half the time, the sound is terrible. So I sent it back and got another brand. Not thrilled with it either, but at least it seems to be better than the first one. They just make things so dang cheap anymore. Very annoying.

We are a throw away society anymore. Seems like I seldom actually fix things much anymore, just replace components.

Well speaking of such. I better go get busy.

Asa

March 19, 2018 - Msg 109464: Good morning, porch! Thanks for the comments regarding microwaves. MDC, I had to just laugh when I read your suggestion, even called my son and told him about it. Guess what? I'm going to do that! I would not be at all surprised to find that unit there, and if it is, I'll buy it. If that happens, after I've paid for it and they have loaded it in my car, I'll ask to speak to the manager and will let HER know that I got the unit at a 30% discount after all, and will point out to her that she could have saved us all a lot of inconvenience from the get-go, if she had just been a bit more cooperative. I really hope I find the unit there, that would just be so much fun.

Tillie is still in the shop. It will be two weeks on Wednesday, and I'm just about fed up. The manager of the shop was on vacation last week, and if they had finished the car, I would have had to talk to the mechanic who speaks English about as well as I speak Spanish - not enough for a serious conversation. So it's just as well that they didn't finish, but now I'm ready to talk. Sadly for them, they're going to get the brunt of my disgust with Lowe's, all built up, and I'm not going to be very open to compromise. It was their mistake, they damaged that bolt, it has been an expensive two weeks for me, using Uber and all and inconveniencing my friends, so I'm ready. I will not raise my voice, I will calmly state my case and my expectations. I was taught that it's no sin to make a mistake, but when you do, you are expected to correct it and pay for it. That's what I want from them. They hold the high card - they have my car - and I can't force them, but I can surely make them sorry in the long run, and I will. I can call the BBB, I can write reviews, and if they get too snotty with me, I can contact the newspaper "watchdog" columnist. I'm hoping it won't come to that, and I'll go in there with a positive attitude, but $1200 is a lot of money for me to shell out to pay for their mistake. Prayers, please - that they'll be reasonable and cooperative, and that I'll maintain a Christian attitude.

Well, guess I'll go rustle up a little breakfast for myself and my tiny companion. She has been sitting here near my feet, heaving little sighs now and then. She hates this computer. --Romeena

March 19, 2018 - Msg 109465: Hello Romeena,Frankie and Porch. Bad storms headed to my side of the porch. Time to hunker down and watch TAGS. Stay safe! Briscoe Darling Jr.

March 19, 2018 - Msg 109466: We have a Samsung microwave and it is fairly new..so far the ring that holds the turntable broke and the idiot microwave started running with the door open. It was a fairly easy fix, requiring a part Bruce had to order, but gosh, the thing is too new for things like that. I wouldn't even know what to tell you to buy. It seems like everything I buy goes bad. I guess that is life these days...something is always breaking either literally or figuratively.

Today has been a tough day for me for reasons that I prefer to not get into here on the porch but I need a mental health vacation or something! Feeling a little depressed and asking some "whys"...I know the Lord understands and things will be better tomorrow. I thought it would be good to come visit the porch for a bit. It always lifts my spirits. I know we all have difficulties to deal with and isn't it great to be here among friends when you need them?

It was a warm and sunny day here and St. Susan and I went to a nearby nature trail and walked. I enjoyed it so much. This evening Bruce and I had our dinner out on the porch and the weather was perfect...but as the sun started to go down, the mosquitos came out and chased us into the house. Unfortunate because it is really beautiful out.

Today I picked up a couple of little seedlings from a Loquat tree. I have a friend who has a huge loquat tree with lots of little seedlings around it and she offered a couple to me. I am going to plant them in a pot tomorrow and then transplant them in the yard when they get sturdier. Have any of you ever had one? We had one in our yard when I was a kid and my mom used to make loquat preserves..so good. My friends and I would eat them right off the tree. I sure I don't kill them..I am not exactly known for having a green thumb.

Well, I think I might settle in for a little TAGS and then off to bed.

Love,
Boo

March 20, 2018 - Msg 109467: Good very late evening, porch. Boo, as always you are in my prayers. Whatever your concern is at this time, I can pray for it easily, because God knows what it is, He doesn't need me to inform Him. I can just ask Him to take care of my friend Boo and her family. He knows who you are and what your concerns may be. Isn't that just wonderful?

You know, He tells us to bring ALL our cares to Him, and I take that literally. Therefore, I will not hesitate to ask anyone who is willing, to pray for my little Toye Starr tomorrow. She's going to the dentist to have her teeth cleaned, and of course, she has to be anesthetized for that. That always involves a degree of risk, especially in a 4.5 lb dog who is almost twelve years old. Also, she will probably lose a few more teeth in the process, and she has lost so many already. I guess we're going to have to give up the kibble and stick to wet food, because she can barely chew up the kibble now. She gets wet food twice a day, and a bowl of kibble stays down all the time, but she's eating less and less of it. Poor little girl.

Well, guess I'll hit the hay. She has to be at the vet's office by 8:30, and I'll have to use Uber as Tillie is still in the shop, so we'll be getting up early! Blessings, porch. --Romeena

March 20, 2018 - Msg 109468: Well guys...it WORKED! :) I put enough glue inside the
sleeve and on both pipes to glue together Utah and Arizona! ha
I knew I had to do it fast, so I had a rag handy to wipe off the excess afterwards. I also wore an old pair of soft leather gloves that were nice and supple. Lifted the pipe piece, it went on quickly, then slide it over the other pipe whilst turning it a bit, and JUST IN TIME it was on! Luckily I had built the sprinkler system myself about 10 years ago, so that helped too. Thanks for all the advice!!

BOO--my prayers are with you for sure, I sure hope you can work things out. Keep in mind those
scriptures. Also prayers for Austin! My goodness, that situation
is terrible.

RO--tou also will be in my prayers. May they see the error of their ways.
Do any of your TV stations have a guy who will contact guys like that, and air it
during the newscast?

I heard from Pappabear again, and he moved again, so I will get his new addy to RO.
He also asked for continued prayer.

ALL---tonite on Gomer USMC, Susan Oliver was on it! She was the lady prisoner in the
tags ep. Fun to see her in a different role.

And, on March 30th, I am going to have a procedure done known as a TEE. They will give me some 'happy juice', and then put a sonar probe down my throat to get a sonogram of the 'back side' of my heart. It gives better clarity then a regular echocardiogram.

The blessings of Jesus upon all,
MDC

Ha Possum, you beat me to the punch with your rendering of good old 14-A. Good job singing into that special microphone that GF got you. :) (Thanks GF, GREAT IDEA YOU HAD BUDDY)

Boo, I will be honored to add extra prayers for you dear. I am glad you feel good about coming here and asking for such. And the same for Romeena and Toye Starr. Gosh, It's hard to believe she is 12 already Ro. I know how much she means to you. She will be fine, I'm certain.

MDC, Way to go man. You are our hero! And GF is correct. I can put you on the payroll. :) Glad it worked out. Good luck with the TEE. I had one done several years ago.

Frankie, I hope the rain doesn't get to carried away for you. I see you guys have been having some issues. Don't you just hate it when you get a song stuck in your head like that? That happens to me a lot, sometimes out of nowhere I'll get an old song in my head, and then I try to remember who sang it. Often times I don't remember, so I go to you tube and type in a few of the lyrics, and usually it will come up with the song. The neat thing about that is then I do more searching on the artist and find out stuff I never knew. That stuff interests me for some odd reason.

Briscoe Darling Jr. I hope you weathered the weather ok.

GF, Sorry about the snowy start to spring for you. But the nice thing about these late season storms is that they don't stick around too long, 10-4? It'll let you give your snow Joe one last workout for the season. I know, that's easy for me to say as I sit here basking in 55 degree weather.

Well off to slay the dragon, so to speak.

your Caddy dealership is, so why not just take it there to finish up the work? In fact, now that i think about it,
why didnt you take it there in the first place?
I know dealers can be a bit more pricey, but in this case
you have mechanics who just work on Caddys, and are not 'jack of all cars', so to speak.
I can go hollar fish if ya want me to, but it's just a thought. :)
MDC

March 20, 2018 - Msg 109474: Good afternoon, porch. Asa, I'm so glad your "fix" went well. I think a little prayer, backed up by your extensive knowledge and experience, would be a difficult combination to beat. I'm happy for you!

MDC, believe me, I have wondered how it would all have shaken out if I had taken Tillie to the dealership in the first place, but I think I know. When the car was still under warranty, I never let anyone else touch it, but I wasn't paying for it. Now I am, and have been for several years, and that's a different story. Way back in the beginning, when all this grief started, I called a friend who still works for the dealership, and was my service advisor for years, and told him what was happening. He told me what he thought might be wrong, but added "You've got to get it fixed, but for goodness' sake, don't bring it here, unless you have unlimited funds." That was all I needed to hear. Dealerships are typically about twice what everybody else charges.

Now here's the good news. I think once again, prayer paid off. The owner/manager is back from vacation, and called me this afternoon to tell me the car is fixed and ready. He also said he had been thinking about it, and wanted to knock off another $200, leaving the total at $1000 for me to pay. I thanked him, but said, "You know, Chris, while I appreciate that gesture, I need to tell you that I'm a little disappointed. I had hoped you could do a bit better than that." He was quiet for about two beats, then said, "Well, Lanni, I think you're right. You've been without your car for two weeks, and no doubt have had to pay for alternative transportation. And it wasn't your fault that the bolt stripped, it was our mechanic. So how about we just write it off and you owe us nothing? What do you think?" I said, "Chris, I think that's wonderful, and I'll guarantee you that I'll write a review on your website that will make people think angels work in your shop. I'll also give you an A+ rating with BBB, as I know you're a member. Also, I have attended the same large church for 45 years, and know a large number of old gray-haired ladies like me, who drive older cars. If I hear anyone even mention a transmission, I'll send them to you. I thank you very much, and appreciate what you're doing. You're a kind soul and a good businessman." I will pick Tillie up tomorrow after ESL class, and we'll talk a little more then, I'm sure. Now, how 'bout that??

Toye Starr is home after being anesthetized and losing four more teeth, and is running around here playing with toys and trying to get me to chase her - you'd never dream what she went through this morning. She's tiny and fragile-looking, but she's as resilient as a rubber ball. Amazing.

Well, guess I'll go rustle up some supper. After I get Tillie back tomorrow, I'll stop at the grocery store for some serious shopping. You wouldn't believe some of the concoctions I've been living on - just whatever I could dig out of the freezer or find in the pantry. Actually, most of it has been pretty good. I'm fairly creative in that respect. Blessings, friends. --Romeena

Hope you are all well and blessed this day. I want to thank you for the prayers on my behalf. Most of my days are ok and I am at peace..now and then, like everyone, I struggle. I know the Lord is with me so it is all going to be ok.

Today was a better day and boy, is the weather here outstanding. Beautiful, cool, sunny days. Everything is bright green and the wildflowers are spreading..lots of bluebonnets. We don't have any in our yard and if we did Bruce would mow them down I think. He is obsessed with mowing the lawn, but it sure looks pretty and green. I am enjoying it!

Not a lot to report..just been trying to get some things done but not pushing myself too hard. I need to take care of my mental health right now, as well as the physical so I am being good to me.

March 22, 2018 - Msg 109482: Boo, it is nice to hear from you. You take care.
G-F, Im glad I only have to deal with the rain. That snow is a lot of work.
The trouble house next door now has a large dumpster in the street. The company that purchased the house has cleaners over there clearing out the house and the back yard. This company buys houses like this and then flips them. It will sure be nice to have the house taken care of and repaired. The men that are cleaning told me when they are finished then the contractors come in and repair all the things that have been damaged and destroyed. This will be so good for our neighborhood.

March 22, 2018 - Msg 109483: Good morning, porch. Frankie, I'll bet you will hardly believe that house when they're finished with it. I had a home health care patient, living in the filthiest, most run-down and dilapidated house you ever saw. Roaches everywhere, even walking around on the chair she sat in most of the time, with her in the chair! A hole in the kitchen floor, door facings falling off, fireplace crumbling, roof leaking, and just filth and decay everywhere. She wasn't able to do much, but her lazy, no-account son lived with her and I never saw him do anything but go out and bring back a sack of hamburgers. Dishes piled two feet high in the kitchen, unwashed, one pot sitting in the sink that was actually rusting! I never saw anything like it. Well, she moved out and one of those flipper companies bought the house. They worked on it for about three months, and I got to go in and look at it just before it sold. It's gorgeous! I couldn't believe it was the same house. It sold in a flash, and now there are flowers around the house, cute little things sitting on the porch - you wouldn't believe it was the same house. So you've got a good chance of having the same thing happen in your neighborhood. It's amazing, what those rehabbers can do. --Romeena

March 23, 2018 - Msg 109486: HI ALL, Well, believe it or not I have another sprinkler system leak! Everything is great on the supply side now, but when I turned on one of the circuits, i saw a bubbling coming up from the ground, dug down, and sure enough, a broken pipe!
But since this is on the circuit side, I think I will just use a compression sleeve! I aint gonna hone down any more sleeve 'stops!' ha
GF is right, I think the AZ sun penetrates the ground and weaks havoc on the pvc pipes.
At least it wasn't a "T", right ASA!? :)

As morbid as it may sound, my wife and I were looking at cemetery plots today. We think we are going to go with a urn niche for two. Price is not too bad, and it should be fine. With my heart failure,

Last week we updated our trust, so that is in good shape.
We are thinking again about flying up to Salt Lake City, and then driving downstate to see the national parks, etc., of that beautiful state. I was last there as a kid. May do it IN May!

March 23, 2018 - Msg 109488: GF had a fun day yesterday. I was helping my buddies with some electrical work at their Mom’s house. I was up on the ladder drilling a hole to feed some wire through and the ladder broke and Goober came tumbling after!..Worse thing I fell right on my bad hip...Looks like I’ll just have to cancel that marathon I was suppose to run today, but at least I can walk and I didn’t break anything!...As Clark Griswold asked...”Where’s the Tylenol?”

Like Doc Andrews told Aunt Bee...”W aren’t Spring Chickens Anymore!”...But That’s Life...Thru & Thru.....

March 23, 2018 - Msg 109489: Good morning, porch! Cloudy and cool here today, sure looks like it could rain, but the forecast says no. I guess we'll see.

G-F, may I suggest that you stay off of ladders? I know, the ladder broke, it wasn't anything you did, but still - it's true, we AREN'T spring chickens anymore, and ladders are no place for old roosters, or old hens, either one. In an emergency, I'll go to the third rung, but that's it! That line from "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" just isn't necessarily true. Some Bumbles, especially the "more mature" ones, do NOT bounce!

MDC, sorry about the leak! Some of you guys on the porch just seem to be sort of snake-bit when it comes to sprinkler systems. Aggravatin', ain't it?

I have the sweetest little thing going on in my back yard right now. A little wood duck appeared, and was silhouetted against the gray sky yesterday, so I couldn't see detail. I got my binocs and looked, and guess what! It's a little drake! Just standing there on his little flat feet, on a piece of PVC that supports a bird house. It just seems so funny to me to see a duck perch on something. He hung around most of the day, and now this morning, he's back, and the little hen has showed up. She's standing on top of the squirrel house she nested in last year. They're just standing there, making eyes at each other. So cute, and so funny! I just hope she doesn't nest in that box, because there's just no way she can get a brood of babies out of here and safely to the nearest appropriate body of water. The babies can't fly, of course, and walking over land and crossing busy roads, they'll never make it. If cats don't get them, cars will. I guess I could take the box down, but there are four others, and she'd probably just move to another one. They're all fifteen or twenty feet off the ground, so I'd have to hire somebody to come get them down. Like I said, I don't do ladders. I still have the little wading pool I bought. I guess I can just enjoy the show, and when I think the ducklings are about to hatch, I can fill the pool and put it under the tree to catch the babies, and maybe with the pond net I can snag the mom, and take them to a local lake. Maybe.

Tillie still purring like a kitten, and I'm going to bake a batch of cookies and take them to the owner/manager who was so kind and just wrote off the charge for the repair. God is good. --Romeena

March 23, 2018 - Msg 109490: Good Friday afternoon all.
Getting a lot of rain today. I guess everything Frankie didn't want, we got. More on Sunday, this time with a chance of snow.

Hey GF, Y'all better be careful buddy. I'm glad the only thing that got hurt was your pride. At work I have access to a half dozen or more sizzor lifts. boom lifts, bucket trucks and so on, and I use them whenever I can instead of a ladder. Of course most of the time I am having to go 40 feet up to a light pole so nothing else will do, but I only use a ladder when I have no other choice. The only marathon you better do is in the Wheeler whilst watching TAGS buddy.

Romeena, sure glad Tillie and Toye Starr are back and purring. What a kind thing to take him some cookies. I would imagine he will be very happy with that act of good will.

MDC, I am glad this leak is on a branch line and not a supply line. Those don't keep you up at night wondering if all is well. lol I will be turning on all my systems here in a few weeks and I am not looking forward to it. I know I have got a lot of issues to deal with. On a happy note, I pulled all of the barricades at work today from the last concrete pour. Everything is back to normal I think. I have a sweeper truck arranged to come sweep up next week. That was a major event that went pretty smooth I'd say. Thank you Lord.

Prayers continue for you Boo. Hang in there.

March 23, 2018 - Msg 109491: MDC, Johnny Mathis has great concerts. I saw him a few months ago on a cable channel and he was really good. Sings as beautiful as ever.
Asa, we are having some sunshine today and by next week it should be more like spring time.
Romeena, glad to hear that Tillie is purring like a kitten. Hope the little ducks stay safe. It is really nice to watch them. I have a bird feeder in my back yard and the blue jays, pigeons and little pirch love it, and I love watching them. That is so sweet of you to make cookies for the car repair man.
The workers next door have the big dumpster full. They still have a way to go. I think they will have to at least get one more big dumpster.
I just noticed looking out my window that the tree is just starting to sprout some leaves. Love to see everything bloom in the spring.

March 24, 2018 - Msg 109492: The concert was GREAT!! Johnny just plain outdid himself! He sang for about 50 minutes, then took a break. During the break a comedian came on stage, all clean jokes and so funny! One example... he said about how
on websites needing your birth date, you scroll down the "birth year" column hoping your year will actually be on the list! (rimshot) Then Johnny returned and sang for another hour. Did all his classics, some henry Mancini, and even the Beatles Yesterday.
Well, I'm pretty tired, so off to dreamland. :)

March 24, 2018 - Msg 109494: Morning all.

MDC, Sounds like you had a real nice time with your sweetheart. I just hope your socks weren't to porous. :)

GF, You still doing ok after the big fall? I bet you are sore in places you didn't even knew existed today.

Frankie, A few years back I was flipping a house myself. I had a dumpster brought in to dispose of all the debris, but I was stunned how quickly it became the neighborhood dumpster. Seriously, I was seeing bags of garbage, grass clippings, even an old "Wheeler" in there one morning. Some folks are truly amazing. I bet you are thrilled to see that place getting renovated.

Speaking of such, I have purchased a number of smoke detectors over the years and so I was shocked to see that a large number have been recalled. As a PPS (Public Porch Service) I am including the recall info for y'all just in case you might have one of these. That would be terrible to have a fire at night and one of these didn't work for you.

Asa

Recall information from cpsc.gov:
Name of product:
Kidde dual-sensor (photoelectric and ionization) smoke alarms – models PI2010 and PI9010
Hazard:
A yellow cap left on during the manufacturing process can cover one of the two smoke sensors and compromise the smoke alarm’s ability to detect smoke, posing a risk of consumers not being alerted to a fire in their home.
Remedy:
Replace
Recall date:
March 21, 2018
Units:
About 452,000 in the U.S. (In addition, about 40,000 were sold in Canada.)

March 24, 2018 - Msg 109495: thanks for that info, Asa.

Sitting here at work waiting for my replacement..pretty quiet around here tonight.

Hope all of you are well and blessed. I have been going through the archives trying to get dates on Sean's different jobs (he needs a job history for his current job). It is interesting to look back but is bittersweet. It is fun to read some of the funny comments..I noticed that it seems that all of us were funnier years ago than we are now. Not sure why that is. lol

There are certainly alot of folks missing and I wish they would return..people like Hazel and Me-They..and where the heck is Sterling?

Again, thank you for the prayers for my family, as always. Things are better. My thinking is more clear and I am less anxious. I am looking forward to going to preachin' tomorrow morning. Our church is just thriving and I need to make more of an effort to be there.

Are all of you looking forward to the Easter weekend? What are all of you planning to do?

Boo

March 24, 2018 - Msg 109496: MDC, sounds like a great concert. I love Mancini`s music he was the best.
Asa, I was checking our smoke alarms and did not see a model number on them. We had four new ones put in about a year ago when we had the house rewired. The electricians put them in and they are wired alarms. They are smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. I am not sure what photoelectric and ionization is? I will have to check into this a little more.
Boo, glad to hear things are better. You have a nice sunday.
Frankie

March 25, 2018 - Msg 109497: Good Sabbath Porch dwellers.

Boo, It is fun to go back and read the archives isn't it? It makes you wonder where former posters have gotten off to. I am glad to read you are feeling a bit better. I'm not sure what we are doing for Easter. April 2nd is our Wedding Anniversary. 40 years. Wow, that's a long time for her to put up with me. :)

Frankie, I think you will have to remove the detector from its base to read the Model number. Usually you just turn it counter clockwise while pressing up gently and it should come off the base. Codes today require that they are all wired in together so that if one goes off, they all do. Photoelectric and Ionization are the means by which the device detects smoke.

I just read this morning about a dear sweet lady I know who passed away yesterday. Almost 40 years ago, she and her Husband were involved in a bad car accident. The vehicle they were in caught on fire from the crash. A 12 year old girl who was in the truck with them was pronounced dead at the scene, and both her and her husband were burned badly and suffered greatly from smoke inhalation. The Husband passed away after 6 weeks of suffering. Carol survived, but suffered greatly from burns. She was always a very beautiful woman who was now severely scarred for life. But she also had a beautiful spirit and never let her situation dampen her spirit. She spoke at numerous Church events over the years and was loved by all who she came in contact with. I know today she is reunited with her good Husband and she is at peace. She will be greatly missed here though.

Guess I'll go rustle up some breakfast and then go get ready for preaching.

Prayers for all for a good Sabbath.

Asa

Asa, stop pullin' those horse hairs outta your lapel!

Good wishes and health to all!

March 25, 2018 - Msg 109499: HAPPY PALM SUNDAY! :) mdc

March 25, 2018 - Msg 109500: Good afternoon, porch. G-F, I hope you're recovering from "the crash" by now, and not feeling "all stove up", as my grandpa would say. No, I have no idea where that phrase originated.

My smoke detectors and CO detectors are wired into my intrusion alarm system, so I don't think they would be part of that recall. I'm surprised that Kidde would release something faulty. They're the major manufacturer of fire protection equipment, including fire extinguishers.

I finally made it to church this morning, after being out for several weeks. I was determined to go, though I was tempted to dive back beneath the covers on such a cloudy, gloomy day. I forced myself to get up and get dressed, walked out the door at 9 a.m., with church starting at 9:30, so had plenty of time. Then I realized my keys weren't on their hook by the door. Went back in, thinking they were probably in the pocket of the jeans I wore yesterday. Nope. Searched high and low, never found them. By now, my imagination is producing high, cackling, devilish laughter in my ears - "Going to church, were you? Hahaha!" Out loud, I said "Buzz off, Satan. Your little trick didn't work, and I'm going to church!" Whipped out my phone, called Uber, and I was in my seat in the church by the first song. So there. Sure glad I did it, too. Our former pastor (now interim pastor, while we search for his replacement) preached today, and I love to hear him. He is going to be missed, but I know God has someone in mind, we just have to wait for things to come together in God's plan.

After church, I went to lunch with some friends, and one of them drove me home. I've searched high and low and in between for those keys, haven't found them. I did get into the "odd key" drawer though, and found the second set that I knew was in there somewhere. In fact, I found three more keys that fit that car - I have no idea why I have so many, but am glad I do. I guess the others will turn up eventually, but it doesn't really matter. I've got plenty of keys now!

Well, I feel a nap coming on. Blessings, friends! --Romeena
